since ya are home now...whereabouts was that? Hillend?
@EEVblog26 күн бұрын
I have a story about Hillend. Went there for a school camping trip in year 6. We were out hiking in the middle of nowhere and there was this big steep mountain. The teachers said whoever can climb to the top and get back down first, wins a milky way. Coming back down I was going so fast that I couldn't control myself and flew over the cliff bit at the end and landed head first on the rocks and was knocked out cold, blood everywhere. No mobile phones back then (or BS safety rules obviously) so a teacher had to run back many km to camp and then drive to a phone in the nearest town to call an ambulence. No idea how they got me out of there, but I woke up in the ambulence on the way to the hospital. Came back to camp that night with my head stiched up and bandaged, had to sleep with the teachers. I got the milky way, and even though I didn't like them, I ate it damn it and it felt good. I think I was driven home early by a teacher, but I don't really remember, I was still mostly out of it. Still have the scar, and it might explain a lot....

We were barred from any electronics during my Boy Scout years. The flashlight was all we got. If I could have camped like THAT, I might have enjoyed camping more.

Last time I went camping was with my motorcycle buds, April 1992, Fort William, Scotland for the British round of the World Trials Championship. Good times.

Last time I camped in the UK was in 1991 for World Rally Championship. While we were travelling from one stage to the next it was announced on the radio that Freddy Mercury had passed away. Weird how the confluence of events makes you remember things.

Not bad. I have a Vango six man tent that has the same design, but it doesn't have a floor in the "lounge" bit. Instead the two sleeping pods have their own floor. It gets a bit muddy. The reflective guy ropes are a good idea, really hurts when you trip up over someone's tent or stand on a tent peg.

You should get yourself a Starlink for those occasions. Would have liked a livestream from the camp fire 😀

I saw this video a few hours after reading "Explorations in Australia" by "Baron (?) John Forrest" in 1870s- now that was camping the hard way. None of your softy two bedrooms and a porch. Or even food and water. "From Perth to Adelaide around the Great Australian Bight" - days without water for the horse, rejoicing when they found 2 gallons of water. But no dangerous snakes and spiders.... Recommended reading.

Leed Lemonade. Leed... Now, that's a name I've not heard in a long time. A long time.

Dave, did you bring the comically long screwdriver in case a dumpster-room teardown pops up?

I am the reason why Fiskars has yellow shaft. First version ca 1990 was all matt black. I lost it in about 5 km of sparsely vegetated taiga and just could not find it. So I whined about it couple of years in Usenet.

Wow, that Leed can must be there for atleast 40 years, because it was discontinued in 1984 and replaced with Sprite. Still looks like it was thrown away yesterday and clearly shows dont just throw cans away in the wild., will take forever to "decompose".

Does it provide enough protection from late night Wombat attacks? I did consider setting up a tent by my home until I was sent a picture of a bear destroying my next door neighbors hummingbird feeder. 😬

Hi David, Lovely location. Is there any risk of any big spiders in the camping area you are in.
