Күн бұрын

A 3 day Coastal wild Camping trip using the index K2 Challenger Kayak to access the site by sea.
We camped in a disused quarry located near Torquay in Devon.
We did some fishing, some wild swimming, camp fire cooking, and general camp life.
this was a great Kayak camping experience, a proper outdoor adventure, I was blessed with a stunning sunset and sunrise during the trip.

Fantastic Video Dan. My hubby Richard even watched with me and thoroughly enjoyed it. What an amazing place. Keep it secret. Can't believe how clear the sea is there. Thanks Lindsey (and Richard) for taking the time to watch it.. it was really fun and a beautiful place to be for a couple of days. . I've done coastal camping out of a cockpit Canadian-made sea touring 15.5 and sit-on-top USA-made SCUBA-specific 13.5 hull. Prefer offshore islands if unoccupied. State Marine Parks and Provincial Marine Parks of Canada were recommended. Best bad weather camp site was a concrete gun battery built before aircraft were invented. Worst landing was the lee shore of island having the underground fortification; as I had to climb in gale weather at sunset 6 meters of wet vertical sandstone cliff with bow tow rope clenched by teeth. Found a stone ledge to weather storm in my farmer john type wetsuit with gloves, hood, and booties. Put a small pine tree between me and the cliff after pulling bow of kayak up to the tree base for a bowline knot. Have since used fair weather climbs straight up out of hulls for wild camp locations. Have not yet hit my kayak during accidental falls. Use German-made Edelrid 11mm as static rope for climbing out of a floating hull. Include climbing harness wear on outings fitted with prusik/rappel hardware to speed vertical transit once the bow rope is secured to a tree. Harness also speeds safe rescue cable pick-up by helicopters. See tree equipment retailers for information. Had prior climbing instruction from the University of California and various recreational cave exploring organizations. Can't recommend sea cave camps unless there is a rear exit route up to daylight. Have installed metal anchors to assist future climbs by using a cordless 12v drill.

Thanks Jimmy, I nearly put it out in 2 parts but decided on a monster film for my first one back after my break.. thanks for getting through it! 😁👍 I like the kayak, it gets affected by the wind and I get a bit twitchy near sharp rocks but having the ability to fit it in the boot of the car is a great advantage.

Great trip and glad you got to experience the camping, travel and company via a different perspective; however you did both remind me of the Chuckle Brothers when you landed at camp. There are some great estuary camp spots in that area which have the advantage of travel rather than one spot - but that could be for another trip eh! Cheers for the upload.

It was a bit of a calamity getting out the boats, but my boat is so fragile so I was happy to be wet with an intact boat.. it did crack me up though 😂 I like the idea of travelling up the estuary .. Would life not have been easier just buying a double skinned lightweight ⛺ much easier than using that tarp, the condensation in that single tent must have been really herrendous at some points, the ferry from Torquay to Brixham goes past that quarry am sure ? After watching the video looks like you've all had a really awesome couple of days away, I'm jealous 😭 now Dan let's see you getting many more trips out and videos on your site, Take care to the next time

Shelter wise I used what I had, I’ve got better tents but wasn’t sure on getting pegs in the ground, the little free standing tent did ok.. some condensation in the morning but it wasn’t too bad, it was dry each evening. There were a few bigger boats that went past, not sure if they were ferries or just tourist trip type boats.. I had a great time though, location, company, food all great.. the sunrise on the last day was perfect. I went home very happy. Thanks for getting through the video, it was a long one! Should be a video every Friday for the foreseeable future 👍 ATB Dan

been admiring the freedom of a canoe trips , but which is better investment , the intex ,or the saveloy , i can sense a stronger hull with saveloy , fabrics. but whats the handling like for them both , nimble, ( realized the inflatables cant cut through without a stronger prow) , or saucer on grease ?

we parked in a residential street, a couple of streets over from where we set off. dropped the gear on the beach and one of us looked after it while the other parked the car. I genuinely can't remember the place we set out from.. it was a beach within torbay but I was a passenger and didn't know the area too well. but if Torbay is a U shape we were at the bottom/centre of it. hope that helps.
