Great video. Took my 2010 Challenger R/T to the local speed shop. I had the HEMI tick. After diagnostics we learned that it dropped the lifter on #6. So,.... we talked it over and went with Texas Speed Stage 3 cam kit (223/232 .582/.582). Comes with springs, Comp Cam phaser lock kit lifters & pushrods. Before starting the work we decided to drop the TSP lifters for OEM Hellcat lifters, and also got the Hellcat oil pump. A TSP MDS delete kit. BBK long tube headers and a CircleD 3200-3400 stall torque converter. It's going on the dyno & tune Wednesday. Thanks

nice video. definitely stage 3 is about as far as i'd go for the street. I daily a 6L LS with 235/243 113 (through a t-56 -it's in a commodore ute) and its nuts. Its pretty much what i wanted - but has cnc ported heads, higher compression, etc. things escalated as i had a lifter failure and needed full rebuild - so i was already in the hole for big dollars and had always wanted an angry cammed v8. idle has quite a lope and is set for 900 rpm. in addition to springs, pushrods, etc. I also had to change from 1 3/4" tri-Y headers to 1 7/8th (ceramic coated to reduce engine bay head) 4-1 for effective scavenging, the smaller primaries were choking it. did the trunion upgrade as the cam is aimed at high rpm. As stated, once you get into stage 3 things escalate quickly in terms of expense! already had a mantic clutch in it which seems to be holding up so far. economy is pretty crap, about 20-30% worse easily (without even standing on it that much) - but that's not what you drive a v8 for right? ended up with 482 horsepower at the tyres. stock LS3 intake. thinking something like an Edelbrock dual throttle body might get me over 500? i guess what i'm saying is that "stage 3" is great - but only if that's what you actually want, great as a weekend street car - but if you're not already doing heads, higher compression, etc. its probably beyond what you'd want to do as a simple swap. i suspect without the higher comp and ported heads it would lose down low, but with those things its still quite tractable. i was very surprised at how tractable it is above 1500 rpm (below 1500 its useless). likely would never work with a stock converter auto tho... but i have a manual so...

Love it. Perfect explanation for even someone like me that wants to start a build with my current 6.4 Charger. My issue right now is that I’m planning on building up my Charger, but I’m 1000% invested on making it bullet proof and won’t grenade the engine. I really don’t care about big HP numbers, but if I can get around hellcat numbers and be reliable engine for the next 10 years ( I will daily drive it, but like you I have a ram to drive) that would make me happy. I guess to start, what can I do to start with the bottom half of the 6.4 engine. Then when the money trickles in, I can start with a small boost (don’t know if I’m going whipple, or procharger), headers, , rear end, then trans update. Right now I’m thinking Just forge internals (pistons, cam, pushrods, valves)? Let me know if I’m missing anything. Like I said, I’m more interested in reliability, than power. It needs to last, so I would sacrifice power for longevity.

Forged internals are great, but just remember that the original equipment pieces have gone 250000 miles in some cars.Forged internals are great, but just remember that the original equipment pieces have gone 350,000 miles in some cars and trucks. Buying high quality parts is a good idea, provided that you are keeping up with maintenance. Forge pistons and rods will certainly help once you get into a boosted application. Keep in mind though, you can run into the limits of the transmission before you run into limits of the stock components on low boost.

@@bmasontv you are exactly right. That’s why I want to keep things calm. For example. I want to plan on forged internals, tune it with low boost to 500whp ( that puts me at guessing 600hp), then in a couple years upgrade the trans then increase the boost? In your eyes, the right way to go?

For a 5.7 L I would consider the sniper to be a stage 2 cam. For a 6.4 L it would be, maybe a 1.5.. think of it for a 6.4 L as an appropriate cam for the street for someone that just wants more power everywhere but is not trying to get a lot of theater out of their cam. Make sure that your intake manifold is up to the task.

The gearing is a secondary portion of this topic. Yes, more aggressive gearing will help with cars with short runner intakes and large cams, in that it will help the car get off the line and get into its power band more quickly. However, this is really more about the nature of the engine and its power delivery in general. The personality of the engine if you will. The rest of the combination will 100% be dependent on the heads can heads Cam and intake configuration of that engine.

I currently have a BTR Stage2 225@50 in 238@50 exhaust. This is my daily driver . Do you think this is enough cam or do you suggest something a bit bigger. I’m running the Holley Terminator X max . Reason I’m asking is because the BTR Stage 2 cam was really designed for the 6.2L engine. Having a 4 inch stroke probably changes cam timing events .

It all depends on what you want to do with the car. Given your converter and the gear that you're running, I'd say it's a good cam you're at a point with your camshaft where if you go much larger, say into the 2:30 is, you're going to lose tip in torque in favor of top end horsepower. For your engine size, I would say that that can is more like a decent-sized stage 1

You need to have an end goal. Don't try to build something that you're going to grow into. Build something from the start that is going to be a foundation for what the vehicle will end up as. If you want to beat known 10 and 9 second cars you need to build a 10 or a nine second Baseline so that when you do go forced induction you can achieve the goals that you're looking to set out to accomplish. I had a very similar goal is you at one point, primarily looking at some cat's eye GMCs that I wanted to build a hot rod out of. It's not cheap and it does take time, but if you play your funds correctly and put the combination together that works well on the street it will be a lot more rewarding to drive in general than one that's trying to put out 12 or 1500 horsepower. Those are horrible to live with regularly.

There's not an either-or answer to that question. You build the power plant to suit your needs and your goals. Supporting modifications like intake manifold and exhaust components will be dictated by the Cam shaft that you choose. As can the pistons and your compression ratio. There's a fairly common misconception with guys that the camshaft can be specific to some type of forced induction. For the most part, that is untrue. The reason why I say the most part is because for some positive displacement applications you simply want a very wide lobe separation angle for Boost response. Aside from that the camshaft will always perform just fine no matter what the application provided that you have the right Springs lifters and pushrods for your RPM range and Lift

@bmasontv
@bmasontv Жыл бұрын
@@dayveonmuldrow7019 No, I was not referring to a Cam that large.There is no such thing as a perfect Cam shaft. It all depends on what your goal is for the car as to which Cam is really going to be the right one. Really, any Cam is going give you a bump in power over stock, and I would still recommend headers. Although they are not quite as necessary when you have forced induction, especially from a supercharger. Remember, the larger the Cam you put in that thing the harder you're gonna have to spin the engine and the super charger, you can end up with a Combination that wants to spin to 7200 RPM. Not that great for stock internals. Also remember that large Cam's kill boost down low, you can end up making the car feel like a pig down low in the rpm range with too big of a cam,, even with a pd supercharger. The stock can can actually make pretty decent power with a super charger. They have very good boost response and feel incredibly snappy underfoot at all RPM.

A WHOLE LOT goes into the answer of that question: Cam Intake Aircharge Comp ratio Intake Exhaust.... You get the picture.... It will be a rising scale with 4k being lower than 6400. Start with around 15 at 4k and rise to around 19sh.. you will need a dyno to load test it. I've had cars that were the same yea that had build dayes not far odf from each other like different values for timing on the Dyno.
