Can A Dyson V8 Battery Be Installed In A Dyson V7 Motor Unit?????

In this video I modify and install a dyson v8 battery to install on a dyson v7 body and motor. Inside a dyson v7 model there is a different clip installed to make the dyson v7 and v8 battery models a different design. I very carefully used a permanent marker on the dyson v8 battery and cut the plastic down to mimic the dyson v7 style battery. This is a very easy mod to do and can be done with a hand saw, dremel, die grinder, or a really sharp knife. Just please be careful when doing this mod. Below is the battery i bought and used which is a way higher capacity battery that has proved its weight in work now for over a month.

I have a V8 and ordered a V7 body by mistake, so I modified the battery, didn't have a drummel tool, so I just used a hack saw blade secured in a vice grip.....LOL. Just went one direction with it and it cut really easy and clean. Plugged my V8 battery into the V7 and worked perfectly....Thanks

Thanks for making this video. I bought the wrong battery for my v7 motorhead. Did what you said and it works!! I did the cutting using a hot knife / soldering iron with a knife tip as I didn't have the power tool.

I bought a battery from ebay, V8 battery to do this mod and put it in my V7 however I never had to do anything but file the inside of the top screw hole so the screw screws in, other than that even before filing the screw hole it fitted in and powered up the dyson:)

Just a correction, the stock Dyson V7 Battery is 2100Mah and the stock V8 battery is 2800Mah (both at 21.6V). The new battery you have is one of the aftermarket batteries which usually lie about capacity. An easy way to tell is size and weight. If that was truly an 8000Mah battery, it would be significantly heavier and be at least a bit bigger. If your going to go with aftermarket batteries there is no reason to do this, you can just buy "higher capacity" aftermarket V7 batteries. Im sure after a short time you will see how bad those aftermarket batteries are. This is a useful video though since I want to use OEM V8 batteries in a V7.

Thanks for the video, just 1 question, I understand the V8 motor is a bit stronger than the V7 so can the V8 battery that has more amps do any possible damage to the v7 motor? I would think not but just checking Thanks ""As long as the correct voltage is used, a device will draw only the amperage it needs, meaning there will not be “too many amps”. Hi, can you please let me know if the V7 with V8 battery installed will fit into the original V7 charging/wall cradle? I'm assuming that the charging plugs are compatible. There are a lot of high capacity batteries advertised for the V7 (eg 9000 mAh for some units on eBay) however I'm very skeptical because if they're built with the standard 18650 cells (as seen in a teardown) then they max out at around 3500mAh so it's implausible to get anywhere near the advertised value - any comment on capacity? Update - I borrowed a V8 and it fits the V7 cradle so should be no problem fitting a V8 battery into a V7 body. Advertised battery capacity being up to spec? - well that's still up for discussion

Does anyone know whether the charging circuit is inside the battery, or is in the vacuum? I'm just wondering whether, if it's in the vacuum, the V8 battery would be charged optimally by a V7-type charging circuit.

not sure about the circuit question. But the same charger cable is used on the v6,v7, and v8 model vacuums.

I hadn't taken the battery out of the vac yet but now I see that the charger cable goes straight into the battery, meaning that the charging circuit is in the battery itself. Which is good news. The wall wart looks like it's just a basic AC/DC converter, putting out a constant 26.10 VDC, and the voltage regulator, etc. for correctly charging the Li-ion cells is most likely in the battery pack itself. TL;DR: probably no charging issues with putting the V8 battery into the V7 vac.

Iv had super bad luck with Amazon Batteries, theyre usually Garbage and arent anywhere near the mah that is stated and dont last. can you give an update on this battery. Hows it working out for you?

All the battery replacements are listed as OUT OF STOCK, and no indication of availability. Are there any other reliable sources that use HI quality components? It also seemed that your source also made a 6000 maH battery for the V7, in which case no modifications would be required.
