@ 9:27 Maybe the "magical 59 inch rating" has to do with trailer height, for unloading a tractor trailer combo that delivers goods to your site? We're watching your video to help us figure out how much freight we can unload from a trailer, as we will be hopefully receiving delivery here, at our home, as opposed to dock pickup at the freight company.

Love my 1025r. I’ve had it balancing on the front axle with a heavy load and was able to move it very slowly and cautiously. Also when doing my driveway I can lift a full mounding bucket of flex base. A 2 or 3 series would be nice but this 1 series is about all I honestly need.

The pressure relief valve is constant. The difference is the increased volume made by the pump spinning faster and the relief valve not being able to relieve it quick enough.
@subwarpspeed6 жыл бұрын
I was pondering this too and it seems reasonable.
@indianaoutdoors43796 жыл бұрын
@@subwarpspeed That's basic hydrulics. Pumps don't create pressure, they create flow. Pressure is made by the resistance to flow ie the lines, fittings valves and whatever the hydrulics are driving. The relief valve sets a max pressure. It is designed to set the pressure at whatever the standard operating rpm is. Which generally is around 540rpm pto speed or full throttle. Because you lessen the flow at idle. You give up some pressure but tractors are also not designed to work at idle.

I purchased a used 1025r tlb, same year as Johnny 1, with about 400 hrs on the clock. I felt that the hydraulics were a little anemic. After watching some of your vids it definitely needs work. At idle it will barely lift the empty bucket. I can only get 1850 to 1900 psi on the loader port at full throttle. I will repair or replace the relief valve first. If I end up replacing the pump, I am going to compare it to the pump on a 2025r as it would supply approximately 1 more gpm. FYI - the liquid in the gauge is glycerin to dampen the needle because of fluid pulses coming from the pump. The best part of your channel is that your whole family is involved and supportive.

RE: 5:07 If you look at the pressure relief valve from an engineering perspective, what it's actually doing is starting to bypass fluid starting at a certain pressure. The amount of fluid bypassed will depend on how much it exceeds that threshold (let's say that threshold is 1900 PSI). So if you're pumping more fluid, at high idle, it will need more pressure across that valve to bypass all the extra hydraulic fluid. So you're right, it's technically not constant, but in engineering we approximate those things as being constant. You would need a PI controller to actually control to a constant pressure. Basically it's a form of error correction that eliminates the steady state error through the integrator. Not needed for this case since your max pressure at high idle isn't exceeding any limitations. Even with that, changes in the loading or speed of the engine would result in momentary deviations from that "constant" pressure, so it would never truly be constant. This actually applies to a lot of things, like the electrical grid frequency, or electrical circuit voltage and current. They say it's constant because it's a close enough approximation.

It's really quite amazing what these "little things" can do ... However, as you already mentioned it's an intense amount of stress to the components involved (front axle, loader, bucket, ...) so I completely agree it should be done as an exception. However, one thing I want to mention : At least on the 2R the pressure relief valve is (I guess just a single one here for cost reasons) between the pump and the SCV (selective control valve), as it appears from seeing your "trick" to increase lift capacity it's the same on the 1R. Below the line it means that the parts are protected by the pressure relief valve as long as it's directly pressurized. If you roll the bucket down to lift the loader arms the pressure in the arm lift cylinders drops below the relief value and the loader arm is being raised. If you close the SCV by putting it back to the middle position for that function it just seals (actually it's not really a 100%, all those control valves will have a little internal leakage) the pressure between the valve and the cylinder and by curling back the bucket it will raise above the limit value. Thus it put's more stress to any component involved than planned by the manufacturer ... The front axle could fail by breaking, tires, hoses, control valve, ... So even if there is still some "extra capacity" in all components be careful not to harm yourself or anyone else if you work at or beyond the designed limits of the machine. Note : The increase in pressure between low and high engine RPM is because of the higher flow created by the (gear) pump combined with the viscosity of the used fluid. In other words, with low viscosity oil/cold oil you might see higher pressure compared to warm/high viscosity oil. Downside of forced high flow is cavitation and therefore damage to the components. Basically the same as if you would change the relief pressure on the pressure relief valve (they are adjustable and it's just turning a screw/nut - so be sure you DON'T do it) ... Pressure in the end is a side effect on restricted flow, that's why there is a need of a protection against over pressure (aka presusre relief valve), especially on gear pumps as the pressure would raise to a point where the pump destroys itself (if the engine is not stalled before). Extra Info (text already gets way too long ... :) ) : For example on way more expensive machines, I own a little Takeuchi TB016, the pressure relief valve is between the cylinder and the valve, so the mentioned "trick" does not really work (actually it does a bit but within limits). To be precise there are two pressure relief valves, one between the pump and the control valve(s) and one for critical hydraulic circuits (like the boom cylinder) between the actuator and the valve. The valve protecting the actuator has a slightly higher relief value than the one for the pump. So it's a bit working but not really far as the boom will be automatically lowered if you get to a critical load situation. For larger equipment and different brands it might be different, actually it is at least if it's legal (at least here in Germany) for lifting as it has a self locking and leakage free valve on the critical cylinders that will be automatically unlocked if you pressurize it. You can really see those lock valves from the outside as they are on the cylinders, same on hydraulic 3 point hitch top links. If the hoses attach directly to the cylinders hydraulic ports -> no lock valve, if they attach to some block on the cylinder from where tubes lead to the cylinders port you'll have those locking valves.

A similar tip i do when im loading a bigger bucket on a bigger tractor, is if i cant lift it higher i tip forward ever so slightly then crowd it back quickly and lift and the same time, the momentum of it curling back will allow you to lift higher. Do that a few times and you can get high enough to tip into a trailer or something, although it can get a bit sketchy when up that high!

As an interesting aside, I would postulate that the reason the relief valve appears to open in different places at different engine speeds (read: pump flow rates) has nothing to do with the pressure and everything to do with the flow. When the engine speed is lower, the pump flow is lower, and when the engine speed is higher the pump flow is higher. When the relief valve opens, an orifice is created for fluid to flow through. That orifice is smaller than the line feeding it, so the outlet side will experience a pressure drop and a flow increase, and the inlet side will experience a flow drop and a slight pressure increase. In shorter words, at higher flow rates the relief valve can't "relieve fast enough". You may be able to test this on your machine with a second pressure gauge by teeing into the relief valve outlet. However, just looking at the parts catalog I cannot tell if there is a way to get to the relief valve outlet or not. It may be worth looking into as a fun experiment. You can also do the same experiment with flow meters, just to prove the relationship of flow and pressure across an orifice.

When I have moved heavy items, around 800 pounds, using the bucket or forks on my 1025R I find my front tires tend to get “squashy” and when driving/ turning the tires roll over the rim making me a bit concerned that I will damage the tires. The tires are the R3 turf tires and I have them inflated to the listed maximum of 22 psi. Have you experienced this and what tire pressure do you run? Are the more aggressive R4 tires tougher?

I agree with you that you shouldn't push these tractors to their limits. I'm glad that mine can't lift heavy weights to the maximum. Very easy to have it fall over on soft or irregular ground. I believe I saw a KZbin video where a gentleman did just that.

There is no pin on bucket option anymore. So I believe your info is dated.

My biggest complaint with mine is that the front end easily lifts off the ground when I’m digging or scraping with it. Also, the terf tires are great for moving, which we do a lot of, but nearly useless for cleaning up the barn yard

It's good as far as settling but it does settle I have the new style late 17 model. All hydraulic Systems settle or creap some if you leave it up it will settle over night. Not a problem for normal use

This rings true. Same with truck hauling. When we got back into camping hauling our first fifth wheel rv. The ram 2500 pulled it fine even with over load springs she would ungelate or what I call hulla dance made it very uncomfortable 🥵 being in a seven hour truck roller coaster so we traded up to a one ton3500 haven’t looked back. Find your trucks max tow weight will it be rock steady or bounce going down the road.

Its an impressive tractor for sure. It's somewhat affordable for the guy with a few acres but doesn't need a full blown cabbed tractor. For me, it works great for moving snow when it piles in 8 foot drifts.
@thnksno6 жыл бұрын
You forgot the weight of the bucket. That's not included in the specs. The specs are based upon math +/-
@TractorTimewithTim6 жыл бұрын
the doc said that the 1250mm (49" bucket) was used for the spec: www.deere.com/en/loaders/front-end-loaders-for-tractors/120r-loader/ "Bucket used: 1250mm"
@thnksno6 жыл бұрын
@@TractorTimewithTim That's the bucket used for the loader, not the lift spec. Lift spec is all based upon rated numbers and a whole bunch of math. They arbitrarily use a a distance 500mm ahead of the pivot. FWIW- I was at auction once and they had those collectible trucks and tractors. I heard this one guy pipe up. Hey, look this one here is One of Five Hundred. He truly thought it was #1 of 500 built. Details, details, detail.
@TractorTimewithTim6 жыл бұрын
@@thnksno Please present a link backing up your point. The link I sent CLEARLY states that the bucket used is the 49" 1250mm bucket.
@subwarpspeed6 жыл бұрын
Agree with Tim here. It states a lot about the tractor that was used for the measurement and then the bucket. Tim has a wider bucket, considering that then the numbers are with margin of error in this emperic test. Otherwise it would mean that JD are grossly underrating the capacity. Bigger loaders with general specs for agricultural tractors I guess are calculated given a hydraulic pressure and with no bucket started it is to subtracted from the rated capacity. But JD seems to have presented the real world numbers.
@thnksno6 жыл бұрын
@@TractorTimewithTim Tim, it's a play on words. That is the loader bucket provided for the loader, the only one, unless you want it and something different. It's the bucket used for that model loader, for that model tractor. Otherwise they would say specifically that the loader lift specs include the bucket. Not the pin, not 500mm ahead of the pin. I'm mobile now, otherwise I'd provide a link. This is a common marketing confusion among manufacturers. This is why nobody cares about anything other than lifting point at the pin whenever buying equipment.
