Do the 75Hz monitors have lightboost/backlight-strobing/low-persistence? That could make a bigger difference than the framerate increase itself. 60Hz will flicker noticeably with low-persistence, so it's generally not done, but 75Hz is where the flicker starts to become imperceptible to most humans.

Yeah I went straight from 60 to 144, but honestly recently I've encountered some games that I can't push over 100, and so I've been settling for capping the frame rate to get smoother frametimes and I was initally just capping things at 60fps but it felt baaad, and I couldn't believe how much smoother weird numbers like 75 or even 85 feel. Honestly though I feel like once the framerate gets above 120fps, diminishing returns really kick in. Like I can tell the difference, but in gameplay as long as the fps doesn't dip below 120 or heck really 100fps (especially with g-sync) I think it feels smooth.

Just yesterday I went with a 24” 1080 Acer KG241Q 75hz, but I moved up from a ten+ year old Samsung monitor that was 1680x1050 59 hz (16:10 aspect ratio), and for me it was a night and day difference. I think anyone that is on a budget upgrading from an older monitor, there are some really good priced TN panels with good picture quality. But if someone currently has a 1080p IPS at 60hz, it might not be a huge jump. Personally I did feel a significant increase in smoothness in just that 16 FPS increase in games like Metro Last Light, FarCry 5, and Doom Eternal, but that was likely because I haven’t already had an opportunity to use and get used to a 144hz monitor. I think I would feel differently about it if I have used 144hz monitors before. Also, not everyone would have a GPU capable of making the jump to 144 hz to meet that refresh rate, and for those looking for an increase, 75 is a nice middle ground. If money wasn’t an option though, I’d go 144hz

Maybe buying a 75hz monitor isn't worth it but overclocking your 60hz one is sometimes a great idea. And I have to say, having played on 75hz for 4 years now, when you go back to 60 unintentionally, you will feel a massive difference, especially in really competitive shooters like CSGO. I was surprised by how noticable the difference is, especially in VR. 60hz VR can feel really odd with less responsiveness, more visible frame flashing, and less overall visual clarity during motion. But as soon as I switch back to 75hz through my oculus settings, those issues just vanish.
