Before upgrading to a 165Hz monitor, I was using what I thought to be a 60Hz monitor for a very long time, finding out that it could go to 75Hz and feeling the difference the extra 15Hz made is what convinced me to go high refresh rate. It's a 25% improvement, very easily noticeable.

@@dammitcarl1082 It definitely is very sensical :D They made a test with professional gamers. The simple fact of not capping the fps on a 60Hz monitor made them meet at least 80% of their 144hz/fps performance, where they were under 20% of their peek performance with 60hz/fps The "feels slow" of yours is just your machine being stupid and not registering the shots correctly even though they met the target. It has nothing to do with your eyes. So there is a point around 100Hz where the eye doesn't play a role anymore. Hint: the average reaction time of a professional gamer is about 200ms! That's at least 12 frames!! lol

@@Henry-xb4mf Can't be. Most monitors have a native response time of 8 to 12ms anyway, so they can't display more than 80 to 120 real fps, making the gains after 100Hz almost non-existent, unless you got some super expensive high-end monitor with 5ms response time, in which case, you MAY see some minor difference between 144 and 100. So I just found out that my monitor is capable of being overclocked from 60Hz to 75Hz, and boy let me tell you.. I've never, and I mean never seen above 60fps before, and I've played games enough now that my eyes are VERY sensitive to refresh rate, but 75fps was.. an experience. It confused me at much smoother it looked and how much quicker I got information. Actually, 100% improved my performance in games as well.. like a lot so far. I'd wager that 120Hz+ feels absolutely amazing to a point where there might be no going back. It's already a bit hard for me to return to 60.

Do the 75Hz monitors have lightboost/backlight-strobing/low-persistence? That could make a bigger difference than the framerate increase itself. 60Hz will flicker noticeably with low-persistence, so it's generally not done, but 75Hz is where the flicker starts to become imperceptible to most humans.

Yeah I went straight from 60 to 144, but honestly recently I've encountered some games that I can't push over 100, and so I've been settling for capping the frame rate to get smoother frametimes and I was initally just capping things at 60fps but it felt baaad, and I couldn't believe how much smoother weird numbers like 75 or even 85 feel. Honestly though I feel like once the framerate gets above 120fps, diminishing returns really kick in. Like I can tell the difference, but in gameplay as long as the fps doesn't dip below 120 or heck really 100fps (especially with g-sync) I think it feels smooth.

On a CRT the difference between 60 and 75 is huge, can'´t say I would spot it easily on an LCD. Not used LCD at 60 much though. Then again the reason I used CRT for so long before I swwwitched was because I really hate the graphics not keeping up.

I have always loved higher refresh rates all the way back with the expensive $600 Sony 21" CRT Trinitron that could hit 100hz. Funny once I went LCD I haven't gone up to the higher refresh rate monitors which I know I would love. I bought a 2560x1080 @ 75hz a few years back and it was quite noticeable to go from 60 to 75hz. I look forward to a 3880x1440 @ 100hz+ at some point. Not going too high in resolution and refresh rate really keeps the upgrades from being needed so soon. I know I won't be able to go back once I buy a really nice monitor, I know the $500 GPU will be next. 75hz is good for now.

That's cool. Interesting resolution, is that a 19x10 monitor? As far as deep blacks go, anything with a VA monitor would be a good choice. Just yesterday I went with a 24” 1080 Acer KG241Q 75hz, but I moved up from a ten+ year old Samsung monitor that was 1680x1050 59 hz (16:10 aspect ratio), and for me it was a night and day difference. I think anyone that is on a budget upgrading from an older monitor, there are some really good priced TN panels with good picture quality. But if someone currently has a 1080p IPS at 60hz, it might not be a huge jump. Personally I did feel a significant increase in smoothness in just that 16 FPS increase in games like Metro Last Light, FarCry 5, and Doom Eternal, but that was likely because I haven’t already had an opportunity to use and get used to a 144hz monitor. I think I would feel differently about it if I have used 144hz monitors before. Also, not everyone would have a GPU capable of making the jump to 144 hz to meet that refresh rate, and for those looking for an increase, 75 is a nice middle ground. If money wasn’t an option though, I’d go 144hz

Maybe buying a 75hz monitor isn't worth it but overclocking your 60hz one is sometimes a great idea. And I have to say, having played on 75hz for 4 years now, when you go back to 60 unintentionally, you will feel a massive difference, especially in really competitive shooters like CSGO.
