For starters, it’s important to recognize that a dichotomy means both attributes are present in everyone. This is why shadow personality (and functions) are possible. Now, my intuition tells me that the anonymous person posing this question is interested in gaining access to the potential for high level intuition. My response to this is that it is VERY UNLIKELY. If we look at Keirsey’s work then we can further break down the 16 types into four main groupings (SJ, SP, NT, NF). What this tells me is that the core dichotomy for every personality is N-S, because it is present in all of Keirsey’s groups. This dichotomy is created in early childhood and the development of high level intuition is attributed to a need for compensating the sensory functions. If people have impaired sensory function, or they are exposed to an environment where high levels of pain will be introduced without the ability to anticipate, that is when intuition is developed. If intuition isn’t developed in childhood then the chance of this happening later, without the introduction to a highly volatile environment, is highly unlikely. With all of this in mind, it is possible to have a high level of both attributes in a dichotomy and simply lean towards one over the other. I’ve seen a person change from INFJ to INTJ and I believed it to be real because there is a very small functional change. Changing the FT dichotomy however is not the core dichotomy NS and as such it appears more probable. A person with a high connection to their emotional state (F) can also have a high IQ and knowledge base (T) which makes a change from one to the other more possible. Now, when we look at introducing higher levels of intuition and shifting the personality it requires the introduction of the things I previously mentioned (degraded sensory or a volatile environment). The first thing that comes to mind is the introduction to trauma that impairs the sensory OR a dramatic immersion to a new environment (e.g. culture, imprisonment). The more a person ages, the less likely they are to experience a change in temperament / personality. Since the N-S dichotomy is at the core of every personality, it is my belief that it is the least likely to change / alter of any of the other dichotomies and requires the highest introduction of pain or motivation to trigger that change.
