I think most argentinians, at least in the big cities, know some basic english due to the exposure to the language in social media and pop culture. Also, as english is taught during most of the primary school and secondary school, we usually have at least some kimd of base to start learning about it. Also, people may not be able to talk a lot in english due to lack of experiency as it's not super needed in here but most people is at least able to understand something. In my case, my mother, 59 years old, has never really studied any english but just from exposure and music she could communicate with a foreigner at her work once. It surprised me, but for real most people have at least some level of understanding about it here.

ive played along and i gotta say, im proud of my level, the main problem i encounter is practice unless i talk to my boys constantly, i get rusty pretty quick ive never practiced a lot to begin with, just text for 10+ years online, so hopefully one day i can find my spoken ceiling

Here on Argentina we almost-all had english education from kindergarden to middle school. Its in our history, lives, names, advertisements and so on. We mostly fail in conversation bc most of us dont have a direct native-english friend or coworker. Lots of english people and enterprises have worked in the counrty building railroads, towns and teaching, also the firsts educators in the country back in 1800' where from overseas.

This is great. You can do this with the older generations in border towns in Mexico and they wouldn’t get half of these words. I think it is truly remarkable that Argentinians know English considering how little they probably need to use it in their daily lives. It speaks to them as a nation and their desire to be a part of the global community. Greetings from Mexico!

It's something natural when you're not used to speaking in a language. The girl who did it has knowledge but probably not the habit, that's why when she hesitates she "hides" in his safe language, the native. In my case, I didn't know most of the words they were asking because I don't use them, but I'm used to speaking English now so I wouldn't hide with Spanish, but I was like that in the beginning, because it's normal. I admire her because she was brave to do the test on camera even when she is not practicing that often

One thing thats interesting is that a lot of people that didnt learn english started to understand it and even can speak at its basic because of the exposure to the language ( i know some people) the thing is that everyone had english in school after 00s and even when you werent the best pupil you still have some basic knowledge

I'm honestly surprised they knew this much. I wouldn't assume Argentinians know ANY english besides simple words like hello goodbye and thank you and stuff like that. This is probably in BA where they're MORE likely to know it but still, I'm impressed. Haven't been there in many years but this was not my experience at all the last time i was there.

I mean any capital city in the world has more of a cosmopolitan vibe than other smaller cities, however, i think for those that took part in this fun challenge, they really smashed it!
