I think Tim is definitely the most like his character in real life without trying. Y'know? Like, Neil plays Astarion brilliantly, but not-trying-to-be-in-character Neil is a lot further away from Astarion than not-trying-to-be-in-character Tim is from Gale. The bit at 4:20 where he's like "Absolutely jubilant with that" is pure Gale.

He IS the actual Gale, he really has the same humour and attitude :) Altogether, Larian did an incredible job at making one of the best CRPG ever. Still apalled by the "it's an anomaly" from other devs - say it's a very hard standard to hold others devs to, all you want, but it inevitably sets the new standards.

Watch the DnD one shot they did for BG3, if you didn't, he exhales Gale almost effortlessly it's almost as if we were watching him in the VA boot reading actual lines, just fantastic how he speaks with the same intelligent sophisticated manner as Gale.

My favorite ending with Gale is Tav getting married to him, and them living quietly in Waterdeep with Gale being a professor. It's so wholesome.
@88Atwood884 ай бұрын
From a person who like many others found Gale too "chatty" I came to like Gale when I decided to give him a chance. It's more depth to him and the more you learn the more interesting he becomes. And of course how can anyone hate the way he speaks back to Astarion 😂 Favourite voiceline is with Astarion and Gale talking about Tav : Astarion: So, how was your night with Gale? Did you have a long, hard debate? Gale: Ignore him. Astarion envies the depth of our bond because he's of a shallower inclination. Astarion: Snort.

Very supportive if you do a good run, sticks with you if you do an evil run, funny, witty, and with really great companion observations, and if you decide to romance him, it's adorable. It is funny how people were turned away by his early gameplay bug, and now that he's fixed he's seen as a slow burn romance option that can be a challenge to crack.

I find it likely he intuitively knew the english pronounciation of latin, but larian wanted to use italian pronounciation of latin and learning that in a couple of days isnt that hard. I literally learned it in 1 day when I showed up to university and to my astonishment baltic filology first semester requires latin classes for some reason. Oh and I learned it on the side as we where just told what its like as an example to show how phonology changes over time, but we used classical latin pronounciation as default.
@Natala003 ай бұрын
Other way around. The reason it sticks out in his mind and he mention it here, is because while at home during covid on his own, he did the massive latin list of spells with an Italian accent, and when he handed it in they came back to him and said he had to do it all again but this time without the accent. Which he did.
@baltulielkungsgunarsmiezis97143 ай бұрын
@@Natala00 Latin is writen phonetically. To know how to read it all you need to know is the orotgraphy. And if were going for italian way for me its like take latviešu alphabet and turn c in to č, and all diagraphs ending with -e in to just ē, and qu is kw, and depending on the spelling you might need to know that i in the same siliblewith vowels on bough sides becomes a j, or it might just already be written as j for you. Unless Im forgetting something, there if you already knew latviešu alphabet memorizing this youre now able to read latin like an italian would. And larian is using italian pronounciation, just look at how Cazador speaks, he would definetly say Čēsar rather than the classical Kaisar. Geals VA just might have gone too italian, to the point of it sounding out of place. And he is certainly not using english latin, the flemish would immideietly notice - why in oblivion are you applying the English great vowel shift to Latin?
@Natala003 ай бұрын
@@baltulielkungsgunarsmiezis9714 @baltulielkungsgunarsmiezis9714 okay. I can only tell you what Tim himself said during a different interview. That he did the whole Latin magic list with an Italian accent because he assumed that was most obvious, and spent ages on it because the list is long. He sent it in and then he got a note back that they wanted it redone but this time without the Italian pronunciation and just with Gale everyday accent, which he did and is what you hear in the game. That's it. You can disagree if you like, but that is what Tim said.
