when I was in EMT school they warned us about perception and using lights and then turning them off, it upsets some people in the public but they aren't aware of the specifics of the run, maybe we've got eclamptic woman, or really any kind of patient who has risk of seizures, the lights and sirens can trigger those, so it's lights only when required, to pass through an intersection perhaps, but then they are off right afterwards. Or maybe we're on the way to the call and then we get cancelled for some reason, maybe another bus beat us there, or ALS got there first with the FD, who knows... the thing they caution about is, even if you were legitimately on the way to the call and then say 100 feet after the intersection your call is cancelled, do NOT think it's "oh well, hey lets stop and get some lunch" because people will think you're lying about why you were rolling code and then went to a sandwich shop.

Very well said officer, my dad actually uses siren to get through traffic all the time, and people hate him for that. However, if you ever sit in a police car, you will then understand why they have to do that. The amount of crap that's going on in the radio never allow you to wait for the red light to turn green. There are only like max 2 police cars taking care of multiple suburbs at once, and you have tons of morons calling police for all kinds of stupid reasons. And the thing is, police has to respond, they cannot choose not to.

Isn't turning lights on for going thru an intersection a response priority code? Code 2 or something? I'm sure its different from state to state but where I am police, ems and fire can respond on a code of 1-3. 1 is lowest priority, no lights, 2 is blowing intersections like in this video, 3 is a full response, lights and sirens all the way there (with the exception of burglaries and perhaps fights). I live in Canada, is it similar in your state or something similar?

I was on the highway before and a cop was behind me . He turned on his lights and I'm like what the hell I'm not doing anything. But I pulled over onto the shoulder before exit . Soon as I pulled over he turned his lights off and sped up to jump onto the exit . So my dad and I just looked at each other like ok that just happened.

The officer's explanations are helpful, as a counter balance against some of the officer misconduct too often shown in other KZbin videos. But, the explanation would be far more persuasive if the officer did not characterize some criticizing officers by use of swear words and the like. I too was a public employee and it just comes with that territory that criticism will come your way that is uncomfortable, profane and even unwarranted. But, if you can't take that kind of heat without dishing it back in kind or even abusing your authority and/or position, you don't belong in the job. Finally, the officer says that if the public, doesn't like what he is doing, well he is just going to continue doing his thing, seemingly dismissing that criticism. The officer would better do his job if he listened a little bit more and did not so arrogantly dismiss public criticism. On the other hand, his videos do seem responsive to public criticism and I applaud

Snakedog49 Look for numerous lights on a car that pulled you over, most undercover cop cars are required to have multiple lights on the fender, multiple lights in the front windshield, multiple in the back windshield, multiple on the rear bumper. If a car pulls you over and it has a couple wimpy red and blue lights and that's it, it's a fake cop.

The public doesn't really understand what these guys go through unless they have done it themselves. 10 codes seem to be becoming a thing of the past. I know in my area almost all of the departments have switched from 10 codes to common language. And the main reason for it is more inter-agency cooperation. Case in point was a man who shot himself at a local mall. The gunshot(s) drew a huge response from all of the surrounding towns and agencies. If some departments are using 10 codes, and others aren't, then there is room for confusion and lack of clear communication. I know my town, and what seems like most of the surrounding towns, no longer use them, except for the basic, basic ones.....like 10-4, 10-90, 10-88, but even those vary from department to department

I'm a new subscriber and I have a question about something that happened today. I was doing about 52 mph in a 40 and I passed a cop that was parked on the other side of the road. He instantly started driving and did a U-turn to start following me. The thing is,he never turned his lights on,and when I did notice him I instantly slowed down and merged into the the right lane. I'm curious about what would've deterred him from chasing me. My dad seems to think the cop was able to run my plate number within the 45 seconds he was behind another car and me,and that he realized there were no warrants or tickets on my plate number,so he decided it maybe wasn't worth it. Is it possible to even check a plate number that fast? I'm just really curious about what threw him off enough to not care. Thanks in advance.

They have a laptop right beside them pretty much all the time. If he was there to do traffic stops, he likely had it already set to just enter the registration number, so he just had to key in your plates and was done.

Zack Fraser my guess is that he saw you and like most people who see cops get behind them, they slow down and start obeying the law to a fault, so he knew that just basically making his presence known would show you that you did something wrong and that you would quickly change your behavior, (like you did) whenever I get pulled over, I notice a good couple of weeks of near perfect driving from myself. I may be wrong, maybe he had more important things to do than pull you over. All the same, you should be happy you did not get pulled over. (It is not fun)

We we as the general public would normally have no idea if a particular officer was on a call or not, another cop would. Or at least he could easily find out. Higher ranking officers should be 100% responsible for their subordinates actions, and as such, the commanding officer will whip his units shit into shape, so the person _HE_ answers to won't come down on his ass.

Bull Dozer If it pulls to the left, on a straight and flat road with no wind pushing the car, it needs an alignment at least.

Gravity is pulling the hand down, and as his hand is on the right side, it would try to turn the wheel to the right. But as it is his left hand, it also gets pulled to the left. Now if you drive a lot you can easily notice the spot where those 2 things cancel each other out - so you can rest your hand there and it does not strain your hands a much as holding the wheel at other positions.

ABaumstumpf I would never be able to drive with my left hand in that position. Mainly because I drive a manual. So my left hand is always at around 9 o'clock and my right hand is usually covering the stick or at the 3 o'clock position.I drive about 60,000 miles a year.

Love it man. As an EMT, a lot of the time we don't go lights and sirens for some calls because the patient is not in critical condition, or we're in a residential area. God knows the houses next to the base must hate us for having lights and sirens speeding down their street to a call every 15 Minutes.

I have always wondered what the point of evading cops when on a motorcycle or car. They see your plate so they can find you if they want. With the plate you can get all the information you need. so if someone evades what's the point

I saw an ambulance do this once. He cruises up to the intersection normally , no lights or siren. Stops for the red light for about 10 seconds and then decides to turn the siren on goes thru the intersection, then he STOPS in the middle of said intersection to wave at another ambulance that was driving by!

officer401 I worked in traffic systems and the longest time I am aware of in peak traffic times is 2:15. That is a big difference. In non-peak times, lights are set to no longer than 20 seconds.

why would a cop get bored sat a red light? They're working a 12 hr shift...what difference would a few seconds at a light make....either way they're getting paid. They literally drive around with no particular destination. Why would they want to get to nowhere quicker....
