QUESTION: On tv, I often see Georgia city officers call troopers to investigate and take over the stop and ultimately the arrest. Is this a department policy or law or….. ?

Loved my first 5 years in patrol. hated my last 2. Organized Crime was fun. Spent 6 years there working on two federal task force units. Crazy hours, but lots of action. Got injured, and spent 2 years in administration. Having weekends off was sweet. Found my home in the Crime Lab, and the Forensic Unit where I spent the rest of my career. Processing crime scenes was some of the most fascinating, and most dirty/gory police work I have ever done. I have images of things I will take to the grave, but I LOVED it. It was great being on the "ground floor" of major criminal investigations. Many of them newsworthy. There was nothing more satisfying than finding, and processing evidence that caught an offender. My career lasted 31 years. Lots of laughs, a few tears, and a brotherhood/sisterhood that has resulted in lifelong friends. Many of whom I considerer family. I did things, and met people in law enforcement that I would've never experienced otherwise. Having said that, it's not a job for everyone, or just anyone. You sacrifice a LOT personally in this job. I missed a LOT of my kid's childhood. The divorce rate is high for a reason. But I was lucky I had a wife who understood what the job entailed, and supported me. As a retiree, she is now my Watch Commander. We travel to whatever state, country, or Caribbean island she dispatches us to.....

I've been in a lot of traffic stops but I've never gave the police my social security number.Where do they do that and I would never give a police man myself a security number

Texas prosecutor here 🙋♂️ If a commission peace officer gives any lawful order and utters "I am law enforcement" AND shows credentials proving they are wether you actually believe it or not, wether they're in uniform or not, regardless of what state they're from,.....and you fight back, resist or ignore them it's a promise you will be sent to jail if not prison. I've never NOT seen that happen in all my years of my line work. Per all states police officers have "jurisdiction" in the entire state. This is sent down Lee federal law. It just may abnormal practice per police but their police powers extend through their entire state AND extend into other states. Just had a New Jersey police officer tackle a guy and kill him in the commission of a arrest while on vacation due to him assaulting a 7 year old boy and he is covered under qualified immunity due to his attempt to effect an arrest that he observed. In fact had he of not acted and we found out about it I'd file on him for neglect of duty.

Dont be to open in the hiring process. If its not a récord dont mention it they will get you
@hh_2578 күн бұрын
thats not a great thing to do tho. Even if there is no record of something happening you still have to be fully transparent and honest about it. they will not DQ you if it happened a while ago and if you do not mention it when asked in a background packet and they find out via a lie detector or from others they speak to then you will be dq'd for being a lier. You should mention everything they ask. If it happened a while ago you will be asked if its bad and if you can explain it well most likely wont hurt you. not answering their questions truthfully will hurt you tho.

@ it happened to me i was 110% honest and 2 agencies said no. So if its not on récord i would say no theyre not your friends.

I was convicted of a misdemeanor hit and run where nobody was injured. I really want to become a police officer but I am worried about this conviction from 5 years ago. I know that it can still be seen but it was relieved and sealed. I am 36 and have no other issues on my record. I truly regret that hit and run and i just thought nothing happened since my vehicle was good. Nonetheless I did it and I immediately made a police report. I would consider myself a good citizen but I did make that mistake. I hope for the best. Any tips for that, I’m taking my pelletB in a few days. Thank you

I mean if 5 years went by and you havn't been in trouble ever since you should be fine. Just be honest and do your best to explain the situation.

It depends on the department your applying to, visit their website and look at their requirements. Most should be high school graduate only.

Thank you to everyone of you guys who are trying to become police officers. Humanity can be very beautiful, but it can also be very ugly, and as a police officer you guys are the first in line to deal with the ugliest side of humanity. This takes a man’s man, real strength and nerves of steel and I will always admire you and salute you for volunteering your life to such a noble cause.

If India became a developed country with a world class police force or if I got UAE citizenship (or any other developed country's citizenship), I would have definitely become a police officer.🚔 👮♂️ 🚨

Graduated OSUT May of 2024 and applied to my local PD the day of. Got a call back the next day asking for me to come in and do their TABE testing, after this was the physical portion and oral interview. The TABE test is basic adult education. Similar to an SAT or ACT but significantly easier. From what I recall, the physical testing was as follows: Vertical Jump, 90 seconds of sit ups, 60 seconds of pushups, 400 meter sprint, and a 1.5 mile run. The oral interview I had was timed. 25 minutes with 5 questions. These questions gauge your character and ability to reasonably think through problems. Do some slight research on case law and law enforcement operations, this will make you stand out. Keep in mind, you are not an expert and they are not looking for experts. After this you move to their pre employment tests. Psychological, physical, and polygraph. I’ll break those down, but every department is different. Psychological: Take a 150 question test to gauge your personality. About a 20-30 minute talk with a psychologist to clarify any answers and make you aware of the nature of police work. Physical: This is basically a doctors physical (similar to MEPS). Eyesight, hearing, bloodwork, breathing tests, cardiogram, etc. Polygraph: The most stressful but straightforward part of this process. With my department, I had a meeting with my background investigator where we did pre-polygraph questions. Again, every department does this different, but be 150% honest. I had a month between this and my actual polygraph. Things happen, but it’s imperative to keep your investigator informed. Even if you recall information, be forthcoming. The actual polygraph isn’t bad, just long and drawn out. I cannot stress this enough, BE HONEST.
