Best thing about being a cop for over twenty years is that I know what the world is really like. The worst thing about being a cop for this long is that I know what the world is really like...Merry Christmas.

@@davidledesma209 Through the years I have seen many rude people who call the police about the most trivial things. Or you go into a house that's filthy with bugs, feces, and garbage. So now when I'm at home I appreciate my nice house and don't care about my neighbor's dog barking or other things that I see as not such a big deal. One of the greatest lessons I regret learning happened after my partner was killed in the line of duty. I realized that your life is so precious and can be snuffed out in less than a second. And very shortly after your funeral a lot of people will forget about your tragic death. I get it now that the radius of people that care about police and people in general is very small. So don't think that you are so important that the world revolves around you. It doesn't. I try to be kind to everyone, treat people with respect, and pray before every shift for God's protection for my partners and for the wisdom to make the correct decision so I won't get sued or fired. What accountant, salesman, barber, mechanic, etc. prays like this before going to work. A wise Sergeant told me that police have a ticket to the greatest show on Earth. There is a lot of truth to that but after watching that show for all these years I'm a little jaded. Oh and it's true what every police officer says, "I could write a book about this stuff and nobody would believe it".... Lol.

In a nutshell, the world is ultimately all about power over people, sex, and money. The whole power-over-people thing trumps the other two, stragely enough. You don't have to be a cop to realize that :)

dont you love it when people complain about their so called rights when they get stopped for no reason and searched, people actually think they have the freedom to dress how they want without punishment, cops should be able to stop anyone they want for any reason whether the laws was broken or not.

Devil's Offspring that’s a generalized understanding of it. You do need to be a cop to see some of the things they do. Cops go through more shit than you and I ever will. These brave soles have put their lives on the line to keep us safe. What you said is something that everyone knows, but not everyone sees it. Cops see it first hand. They see terrible things and I’m sure they see some great things as well. Not sure if you were trying to be a sarcastic or not but either way, yes. You do need to be a cop to realize it. Everyone knows the world is fucked up but we don’t realize how fucked up it is until we see for ourselves.

I totally agree with you about the body cams, too. They stop the rare less than ethical officers, and they cover the good guys' asses when you're accused of bad behavior and the video vindicates your actions.

I have been a police officer for almost 12 years and started at 21. I still feel very young but I’ve spent my entire career working south central LA and Watts, so I’ve seen a few things. When I started we didn’t have body cams, we didn’t have dash cams, and now we have both. I still remember going to court and what I said on the stand was considered the truth. Now I can literally make an arrest on a traffic stop for a ex con with a gun, and get called a liar. It’s unbelievable how different court is compared to 11 years ago. One thing I’ve realized is that even with a body can showing a suspect with a gun in his hand, we will still get called a liar. So then what is the point of the body cam if it doesn’t change things for the better. At this point in my career I am very disappointed with the way we are treated. I have hope it will change, but even with our videos being released after a major incident. You still see people paint the officer as the bad guy and act as if the officer caused the suspect to cause the shooting. Oh well, just another 23 years to go.

Soon body cams will be worn by men in all of corporate America. We are already refusing to take female co workers out to business lunches and do one on one meetings in a private room. Too risky with this meToo movement debacle.

Thanks for posting this and other videos to inform and educate the public about life as a Policeman. I've been out of Law Enforcement for over 16 years now and I'm sure that it's definitely a different environment out there on the streets. I appreciate you and what you do to show people that Police Officers are actually real human beings that have feelings, families, and aren't numbers with a badge. We aren't any different than any other average everyday person,we are just different only in the aspect of the nature of our profession. Thanks for all that you do Sir, and again have a Merry Christmas!

Great video. Keep up the good work. Oct 2018 was 23 years of service, and in that time I have had 11 left knee surgeries, my left shoulder rebuilt, found out my right shoulder is now torn. Had to go to the ER 25 times for injuries, feel through ceilings with my K9, been shot at, a lot, fought suspects for guns, knives, been drug by cars to name a few. I am on my 4th agency (fed's) as a Lt. Started off as a city police officer, K9 handler, trainer, street crime unit, highway drug interdiction, then went oversea's as a UN Civilian Cop and worked homicide/ IA, came back went to work for a county agency, where I was injured twice on duty, forced into a medical retirement, arrested on workers comp fraud, fought that for 4 year, cost me almost 100k case dismissed, but the arrest is still on my criminal history, found the inv lied, withheld evidence, wrote a search warrant as a civilian pi working for the county. DA Inv proved the Inv left out exculpatory evidence that would have cleared me in the beginning. The DA's office refused to investigate the investigator who did the case, who also had issues with a similar case in my former county where he lied, withheld evidence and threatened witnesses. I have taught at the academy, private college, for a criminal justice expert, guest lecturer at my old college prof's intro to CJ course, yes he is still alive. And no I did not use a hammer and chisel to write my reports. Why am I still doing it after all this??? I don't know, its all I have ever known how to do. I started at 20 years old and I am 56 now soon to be 57. EXcept for the year I tried another job after coming home from oversea's, did not like the civilian world, the 4 years I was unable to work while trying to clear my name, and the 2 1/2 years working as a private contract security watch cmdr. My adult life has been wearing a uniform.

I start with my Sheriff’s Office January 2nd and I start at the academy January 7th. I have worked in an Operating Room for the last several years and during my last week, I had so many people tell me they don’t understand how I could want to be a police officer in these times. Its sad that people do have such a bleak outlook. I haven’t been able to take the smile off my face since I was told I was hired. Some people just have this calling and that’s why it’s not for everyone.

Congratulations!! I can feel your enthusiasm through the screen and I really appreciate this comment and your perspective. I was working security in an overage alternative school for the last 3 years and as stressful and chaotic as it could get at times, it was the most rewarding job I’ve had. However the pay was extremely low and I literally couldn’t live off of what I was making. I just switched over to working sheetmetal, hanging ductwork all day. I more than doubled my income from one day to the next and I’m really enjoying the work. However, I have a feeling it’s just because it’s something new that has my attention. I have a feeling that overtime this excitement is going to fade. I’m only a helper now but there’s a lot of room for growth and it seems like a good trade to get into. There is a lot of good opportunities here. But I don’t know if I’ll be happy doing this as a living for the foreseeable future. I keep feeling this urge to become a police officer. I’m trying to decide whether to delve deeper into this trade and have a company pay for my schooling to become a journeyman or risk it and go back to school out of my own pocket and try to become an officer. Coming across people like you and reading what you said about not being able to take the smile off your face since you were told you were hired makes me feel even more encouraged to go for it. I’m going to make some time asap to go to my local college to get informed on the upcoming semester and make a decision. Sorry for the essay! Lol I just had to get this off my chest

Raymundo Castillo I made a huge career switch and it was all so sudden. I have wanted to be an officer my entire life, but I didn’t feel like I was good enough. I went into the medical field because I wanted to help people. I worked as an OR tech and I was applying for nursing school when I decided to apply at a couple of my local departments. I was going to let them tell me no instead of telling myself I couldn’t do it. I knew it was meant to be when I was the only one that made it through the hiring process out of about 100 people. This is the first time in my life I feel like I am where I am supposed to be. You’ll know when the time is right.

Fritz That’s got to be an amazing feeling knowing you were one out of 100. I ended up working at the school by chance. Being an officer had always been in the back of my mind but it’s not something I seriously considered until working security and interacting with the school district police officers and the city police officers that were assigned to work that school. Between assisting the officers in whatever they needed from me, being able to resolve problems between students or students and teachers, and experiencing the adrenaline rush of students (mostly grown men and women) becoming combative with me and having to physically restrain them until the cops could get there and take over, made me realize I really want to take that step and become an officer to help people. I was planning on going through the school district since they had a cadet program where you don’t need any college credits to become an officer with them and put myself through college in the meantime so I could apply for the city once I finished school and already have some experience as an officer. But that cadet program was closed indefinitely and then I was offered a good paying job to work in sheetmetal since I had some experience in that. So there went those plans. But ever since then I can’t get the thought of becoming an officer out of my mind. I think I’m going to go for it before I get older and always have this what if in the back of my mind.

I always hear my senior guys talk about how things were different then and how video cameras changed everything. Not to mention a lot of them are in the process of retiring after 20 years. One of my FTOs told me he could do 30 years but with the way the society is handling policing he doesnt want to deal with it and will retire next year. So it will be interesting how things have change once I hit my 30 mark. Anyway nice video, stay safe and happy holidays

I think that your presence on this platform is a huge step in the right direction as far as mitigating animosity toward law enforcement. There has always been a tiny contingent of bad cops, but with the advances in technology, they have become so much more visible. No one posts video of a great experience with a great officer. It's such a shame. Literally all of LEOs that I've known are super upstanding and levelheaded.

Here in AZ code 3(lights and sirens) is only supposed to be 20 over. That's not even fast enough to keep up with the traffic on th I17. I'm pretty sure it's not necessarily followed. I watched a police charger catch air in a 40. Pretty sure 60 mph doesn't put you airborne.

Rdon 357 citizens get killed because cops are un-fit and resort to using weapons instead of their fists . I train everyday that way I don’t have to use my weapon . Nervousness isn’t the issue; it’s the way you overcome the nervousness that makes you a cop.

I got in a heated argument on social media a few weeks ago, one of my high school friends was trying to claim that all cops are bad people simply for their decision to be a cop. The reasoning behind this claim was you're sworn to uphold the law and there are lots of laws are inherently racist. I tried to argue against it but sometimes people only hear what they want to. But I did link a couple of your videos to show that broad generalizations like that are usually misinformed.

There was a study done that my professor showed us in Crim Jus (Major in police force) showing that there has actually been a rise in police trust, from a little below 50% to i think 54%. So most people do actually trust and like cops, however, i think those that dont like or trust cops REALLY dont like or trust cops. And no, no idea where this study was from, but it was comparing trust in military, cops, schools, church, and media. Dont worry, media was at, like, 16%. Military was at 72% though.

Historically people have never liked "the cops", its not a new thing.... not liking "The Man". The cops are the red coats, the people that work for the powers in charge...... be it good or bad. Historically its almost always bad and they almost always end up being the first line when people dont pay there taxes, or give homage to royalty, or they are the people who have to back up some wildly unpopular law. People hate them and historically its almost always for a good cause and in the end.... the police are always on the losing side. I have some friends that are Leos and they are just like every body else........ not really...... When they talk about there job its always them against the people.

No job tells you everything. Really, most jobs tell you nothing practicle. They tell you concepts but they never tell you what to do in certain situations that aren't as generalized as the concepts you learned. Ex: I drive trucks local and there's tons of shit that I've learned overtime (6 months to be exact), that noone taught me about. Situations with customers that noone warned me about.

Been a cop for 6ys. Seen alot, done alot, moved into specialties quicker than most I suppose. But I've matured so much. I've gained alot of valuable people skills. Been fortunate enough to have investigated a few homicides(it wasnt just me it was my team). I've Seen way too many henious things whether it was ICAC cases I've worked, child suicides, horrible cases of child and elderly abuse. Investigated and been back up on way too many domestics. Ive witnessed officers let the job cause them to self destruct because of ego and turning to substances which transpired into abuse. In my area alot of officers feel like they have no where to turn because it's still a 'good old boys club', where we are constantly told to "rub some dirt on our wounds and tak an aspirin and Midol for our problems and move on." Its sad Ive known Officers that have committed suicides, hell even had an officer in my area murdered his entire family. Sad shit. Through all this negative and getting to witness first hand the dark side of humanity, Ive grown so much as a man, a father and husband. Still working on being a better friend and neighbor because I dont trust people haha. But the growth didnt come easy, I've had many dark days! I've drank way too much alcohol for the majority of my time as a cop. Happy to say however I realized it and am sober now! I've let the job make me depressed from a mixture of missing out on so much of life and seeing so much misery and constantly dealing the dregs of society. However I'm aware of my depression and work on it in healthy, productive ways. Without pharmaceuticals mind you. (I hate the Pharmaceutical industry!) I'm currently a detective so I'm off the streets in a cozy office for now haha. I'm also finishing my degree then hanging up my badge before I have to rotate back to patrol. With all that said, I respect LE as a profession but would never want my kids to work in the profession. Truth is, the majority of cops are decent people struggling with the curve balls of life like anyone else. With all this said, I'm grateful there are those out there that are willing to sacrifice their lives to go work all hours of the day, and miss every weekend and holiday working in the profession. But as for me and my family it's soon time to move on. I no longer have a desire to work patrol so I'm moving on because it isnt fair to me, my family to be miserable doing something i no longer have a passion for, nor is it fair to my co-workers when my head isnt in the game if you will so I'm moving on. Props to your channel brother respect your honesty and transparency.

Have you ever heard of a non citizen being hired in any police department that you know of? I was brought here by visa and was an over stay at the age of 2. My parents never went back to Mexico after that. Ive been in the United States ever since, currently 22- im under DACA now though. I've looked into local departments and it doesn't seem like theres a way around it, they don't even seem to hire/train permanent residents. I have seen online a couple cases of DACA recipients being hired but its primarily small scale police departments and theyre confined to Illinois. I tested recently with a local department in which my wife had messaged the chief of police if maybe there could be an exception made and did well on their physical after he told me to go and submit an application anyways but as soon as they noticed I wasnt a US citizen on my background packet the cops there kicked me from the rest of the exam. Itd be a dream come true to get the opportunity and i have a pretty spotless record, always tried to do whats right and avoid trouble. It seems unfair to not have a chance at least just because of 2 years and something I had no decision in. My wife who ive been with 3 years now has petitioned for my permanent residency but its such a long and convoluted process now that I doubt ill have citizenship before im 30 the more we become involved in it.

In 2014, according to the Justice Department, police interacted 35 million times with the public. With that number in mind, how many "bad" incidents happen? A statistically insignificant number. Many people have a story about "that one time" where a cop didn't hold their hand during a stop, but where was that cop coming from previously? A murder scene? A domestic dust-up? Cops are doing a better job now than ever before. And if you choose to start yelling about "your rights", and "why did you stop me" (where they won't tell you without first seeing your ID so that you are less likely to BOLT)....if you treat the officer with disrespect in this way, be assured...YOU ARE GETTING A TICKET (at least).....so don't be stupid...be nice.

That's a bunch of crap! I have had several interactions with law enforcement and just about every one of those interactions the officer tried to escalate the situation to a level of violence. Too many of these LEOs are adrenaline junkies that get drunk on their own perceived authority.
