Can current dating methods determine exact age assignments? How long can soft tissues last? And does the Bible explain why we should expect to find soft tissues in fossils?
Host Ivana Semidey discusses the scientific explanations of decay rates, secular dating assignments, and the implications of original biochemicals with ICR Research Scientist and Paleobiochemist Dr. Brian Thomas in Episode 16 of The Creation Podcast.

I'm glad people are talking about the different types of fossils and what makes them a "fossil". I've never understood how it could still be a fossil when there hasn't been mineralization. I'd love to see this discussion grow throughout the earth science communities.

As an engineer, I really like scientific reasoning. I very recently had an open talk with my daughter, who does not believe in God nor creation, and is being taught about evolution in her first year as a Bio-engineer at university. So I am glad I can reach to her articles like these, from someone who knows much more about this stuff then I do, being an engineer in construction. So very happy for your interview, and I subscribed immediately to your channel. Good work!

@@StudentDad-mc3pu Someone say: "I know that the God of Abraham , Isaac and Jacob created me from the dust of the earth, Amen." Maybe some of us get a little too much of this dust in their brains. Creationists are humans who have not yet reached the level evolutionists have arrived as "Real Human". Maybe in a two million years they will reach this level of mature. But they stuck in evolution, because they read such funny things like the bible. Ohnfitzgerald wrote: "The Bible is a collection of children's bedtime stories that parents would tell them. Later, The Brothers Grimm would do the same, travelling the countryside, writing down the stories that they could learn from the many people of Europe." Maybe in a two million years they will reach this level evolutionists reached yet in evolution. But not everyone can reach this age. An exeption maybe is Jesus. But he has another problem. His resurrection did not take place until a few days after his death. He will probably smell and look like a zombie. And to run around allmost 2 million years as a zombie is not that fine. Only to can be called as "Real Human". Creationist are the evolutionists of tomorrow. It's amazing what funny conclusions a creationist's brain can come to. Did you know that for them we live on a flat earth?

Ask your daughter to bring you a fossil of an animal in the process of change from one KIND of animal to another KIND of animal. They teach the kids about evolution and claim we come from cells, then fish , lizzards , monkeys, and finally humans. There is ZERO fossils to back this theory up , but so many try to push this as a fact. Evolution never happened. God created Adam and Eve in the beginning along with all the animal Kinds we did not evolve the way scientists brainwash kids to believe.

Having grown up being taught that Genesis is an allegory intended to focus on God as the Creator, therefore allowing us to accept the secular dating methods and understanding of evolution, I just accepted that explanation. It was one of my college biology instructors who made me pause to think about it. He taught evolution, but prefaced that section with the stipulation that it's not possible to go back in time to observe anything, and so that requires the development of hypotheses. If evidence is gathered that supports the hypothesis, then it can be called a theory, but really, the Theory of Evolution is just the best explanation we have for how life came into existence naturally, without a god creating it. I later figured out by deduction that he was a Christian. Much later, I came across an article or essay that quoted scientists and philosophers of fairly recent history (Post-Enlightenment) who discussed their aim to seek an explanation for the origins of everything without the need of a god to create it. That was their hypothesis, and they set out to prove it. So right there there's a bias that influences them to de facto reject any evidence of creation. That's what convinced me to take a deeper look. I think God put that biology instructor in my life when He did so as to prepare me to recognize the bias. Otherwise I probably would have found some biased explanation to excuse and defend the scientists and philosophers who openly stated their intent to ignore what they didn't want to be true.

I was brought up to believe the Genesis account of creation to be accurate. There was a time, however, when I entertained the idea of Genesis meaning "period of time" when it said "day" as given by old-earth creationists. However, when I learned that, for the old-earth account to be true and to take what we see in rock layers as representing which materials were laid down first (without considering things like weather and natural disasters moving those materials around), that would mean that there was evidence of death and decay in the ground before God created Adam. That would mean that the bible is false in saying death came after Adam and Eve sinned and would also mean the Flood either didn't happen at all or happened locally which is preposterous considering the bible clearly states the waters rose above the mountains and on all the earth. So once I realized that the old-earth account would be contradicting the bible, I immediately dropped the old-earth theory and never considered it to be a possibility again. There was a time when I also tried to see if evolution could fit in the bible. Once again, I figured out that it couldn't and dropped that as a possibility as well. The word of God I will always trust over the word of man.

@@WeepingWillow422 I did something a bit more real and rational. About the time I was 10, I realized that the universe is the way it is, and scientists basically do a real job in seeing how it is. I also realized that while "how it is" does not serve to refute the existence of God, it certainly serves to refute some of the hilarious dogma of religions. Refutation of the dogma of a religion about God, is not refutation of God. It would be better if you did not tie religious dogma to the existence of God. Know that God pays no attention to hilarious attempts to "prove" God exists. It is not earning you any brownie points Might be time to grow up and realize what the Bible is, and is not. That way you might get more out of it.

@@archimedesmaid3602 Your comment assumes that scientists have no bias. We know that it is almost impossible to research a matter without bias. As original poster @KA Fleury mentioned above: "I came across an article or essay that quoted scientists and philosophers of fairly recent history (Post-Enlightenment) who discussed their aim to seek an explanation for the origins of everything without the need of a god to create it. That was their hypothesis, and they set out to prove it." I would love to see that article, because that would show scientists were a lot more honest than they are today. I think we need to start realizing that the people in charge are fallible. They may not know what they are doing. Worse yet, they may know exactly what they are doing and enjoy manipulating the data to support their bias. Dissenting opinions have been suppressed and canceled for hundreds of years now. If we are only willing to listen to the people in power with the loudest microphone, we come away repeating one side of the issue. That is the sign of someone who is not well educated.

Observable science proves evolution is impossible. It should be clear to everyone who thinks about it logically. We would see every other person and animal half way evolved. We would have all sorts of animals and human beings becoming new species constantly. How did evolution stop happening if it ever happened? How is it possible that we all have the same DNA showing we all have a common ancestor? Biologists know it is impossible for DNA to accept any new information. Adaptation happens when information is removed form our DNA. To grow our hair longer or for our skin to get darker information is removed that allows the process to continue till a later stage of development. When the mountain goat needed longer hair it's DNA had information removed to allow the hair to grow as the signal to stop growing at a certain point was removed and the finish line moved forward.

I agree with everything Dr Thomas said, but i want to add that we do know the decay rate of carbon 14, and that based on it's (approx 5,400 yr Half-Life), not One Carbon 14 atom should remain after 1 million years, yet we have found carbon 14 in virtually every unfossilized bone or wood or plant sample ever tested: even in the (so called) Carbonifereous era that is supposed to be over 300 million years old. This has been well documented as well.
@greygrey6151
@greygrey6151 11 ай бұрын
Yes, of course we find C14 in all living and in all unfossilized tissue...life is carbon based, so every living thing takes in carbon with a known proportion. Once an organism dies, it no longer takes in new carbon, so the C14 decays into N14 at a known rate, and that ratio will give us an age for a specimen. This is only good for a date back to about 60,000 years. Beyond that range, there are other isotopes that decay at a known rate, and they can date much further back than for C14 (example, the ratios of uranium to lead in a sample.)

The existence of God seems not to be profen all the 14 billion years. To make matters worse, he is in contrast to our universe also not really visible. Therefore I prefer to worship our visible Universe instead of an invisible, maybe sometime popped up God. Maybe you prefer the second possibility, with two popped up things out of nothing. @@mattbrook-lee7732 think about it. A body encased in mud (from a sudden catastrophic flood probably) would be a great place to preserve something. Hundreds of years is a lot to ask. Thousands of years? Remember this bone was at the surface sticking out in the air. Other random fossils they’ve tested are in drawers at the Smithsonian. They all had pliable tissue. Some has red blood cells. Some have viable DNA. A million years this stayed preserved? Are you that naive? 65 million years???? Just how absurd does a number have to get before you balk? Or are you good with whatever the “experts” say? I mean, they’re the experts; right? Kinda like the Covid vaccine; right? When do you ever question anything? There’s a chemical element, that has an accepted “half life” that’s accepted by scientists around the world, of less than 6,000 years. It’s found nearly everywhere. It’s found in coal that is found in rock layers OLDER than the fossils. These rock layers help determine the “era” different species lived. Rock layers with this element all over them are judged to be millions of years old. How can that be? It’s not possible. Here’s the deal. Radiometric dating is older (less reliable), but has “acceptable” ranges of millions of years (I’m not kidding). The newer, better, science uses this method that has the element with a known half life. It gives ages in the thousands of years. They know this is true, but they refuse to accept it. Now they’ve got pliable tissue, and stomach contents with vegetation that is recognizable!!!! They keep bending the science and ignoring the obvious. Why? What’s up? Why not follow the evidence, and go where it leads you? Nope. They KNOW what happened and when; even though they weren’t there and CAN’T know. I’m tired of being lied to, “for my benefit”.

Except that penguins didn't leave Antarctica to hop on an ark, and neither did the kangaroos in Australia. A baby dinosaur brought onto the ark would have grown so large prior to the waters receding that it's feet would have fallen through the wood floor. And that the native Americans have just been over here twiddling out arrowheads (clueless about what would have been happening in the Mediterranean region) and hunting buffalo all along. And need I mention that human remains are always discovered high above the ancient animals now gone extinct - and there are millions of extinct species. There need not be a discussion on radiometric dating when deciding if Genesis 1-11 is some literal scientific text - Russia dug a 40,000 foot hole in the ground and four miles deep they found plankton fossils. You can examine certain types of lakes and find that tens of thousands of summer/winter seasons have left layered deposits at the bottom. And we observe that phenomena every trip around the sun. A flood that catastrophically ended it all would mix up all the fossils as to be unrecognizable - we don't observe that in the rock record. It is far more organized than that. Flood geology is the biggest pseudoscience ever created - and it needs to stop. It's needlessly sending innocent well-meaning Christians back to the 1800's - a time when Christians were leading the way in discovering the earth's ancient age. I am a Christian, Jesus saved me from my sins, and I would firmly take the evolutionary creationist position after what I've gotten to learn. Radiometric dating aside if you prefer. The Bible, Rocks, and Time is a great resource on geology and I Love Jesus and I Accept Evolution is a great take on evolution. These are written by Christians who actually know their stuff, and it's a lot of fun to learn about.

@@tcrowetcrowe Evolution cannot walk together with Genesis, because evolution has a life-death cycle in order to function. If there was death much before man came to be, it means death existed before the first sin and that death is NOT the wage of sin. Therefore, if death is not the wage of sin, Jesus's sacrifice was for nothing. The theory of evolution and the Genesis account in the Holy Bible cannot coexist...

@@tcrowetcrowe 3 Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing ... they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed." 2 Peter 3:3, 5-6) I'm sorry to say but like many Christians, you have arrived right on time in these last days, scoffing and denying the very flood that scripture literally warned you that you would come scoffing about. I mean, did you ever read that verse and wonder, even if only for a moment? Peter could have used your name to make it more personally relevant I suppose but he pretty much captured you and those who stand in your ideological lane. Atheists I can understand but Christians...that's just disappointing. Maybe you spent too much time in the literature (even though it is widely understood that there is a catastrophic crisis in ALL peer review because of "financial interests, personal disagreements, or professional opportunism" as one source puts it. Apparently they should have added spiritual rebellion and wilful delusion to that list, no?) and not enough time in the scriptures, scriptures like Peter's second letter? Christians who reject the historical eyewitness account (God was the eyewitness, yes?) of the first book of the bible tend to also reject the same eyewitness account of the last book of the bible. Often the screw up a lot of what happens in the middle too, which is to be expected when a person rejects the beginning and ending of pretty much any book, non-fiction or otherwise. When God raises up the antichrist empire - the most powerful empire in history spanning from Greece to India (see: the Islamic Caliphate unless you know of a more appropriate potential beast empire that occupies the lands of the former Babylonian, Medo-Persian and Grecian empires?) - and they begin systematically executing Christians and anyone else who doesn't recite the shahada, your knowledge of literal occult naturalistic philosophy passed into the mainstream by satan worshipping Freemasons (like the Darwin family) is going to be pretty useless. You: "Don't worry, fellow Christian, you can be assured Abdul won't sever your head from your neck because the flood is just pseudoscience!" Dying Christian: But can feel the tendons separating... *gurgle* *gurgle* You "Don't be a fool! That's just the pseudoscience speaking!" As a Christian, you really ought to better research the origin of ideas, especially unbiblical, unsupported in scripture ideas. They almost always come fro the same place and have a much longer history that most people bother looking into. Those alleged "Christian" scientists you are referencing, many of them were actually deists who publicly claimed "a belief in a god" in a culture called "Christendom" where to do otherwise would get you shunned, which is hardly the same as confessing Christ incarnate, crucified, resurrected and glorified. Interestingly enough, "a belief in a god" is exactly all you need to be welcomed into the Freemasonic brotherhood with its curses and oaths that Jesus warned us not to take. Do the math.

And to think tt we were and still are tested on such bonkers theories. Now as a Christian teacher, I struggle with how I should teach the concept of fossils to my students with secular background. Anyways, I think it takes more faith to believe tt God took just tt 24 hours to create earth and the sun and the moon... incredible, but Almighty God can do anything by just speaking it to life! Instant. I have a question though, where are the human remains from Noah's flooding?

It turns out in general relativity that if distance is changing and time is changing, it means the speed of light is changing relative to where we are. It means light is traveling faster in outer space in our line of sight between us and distant galaxies. That means a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day at the same time in different places in the same universe. Redshift is due to distant starlight coming from the centers of massive galaxies that is more redshifted than blue-shifted when it is seen or detected by us in our smaller less massive galaxy.

Ive dug up lots of fossils. Sure the scale may be off slightly but the earth is definitely very very old and the fossil record proves it. In my area (Nebraska Sandhills) we have bones preserved between about 8-22 million years. These are ice age creatures. Ive dug up tortoise rhino mammoth sloth bison 3 toed deer elephant oreodont etc. most of them were preserved in ash after the ashfall event when yellowstone erupted 10-12 myo. Up in the badlands a few hours north is much more ancient strata. Ive dug up alligator garr t rex stegasaurus triceratops titanothere ocean creatures etc. Theres oreodonts (antelope) up there too but only in the much younger 5-40 million yo strata. We find them by establishing an age layer by identifying the bone and soil level in comparison to the surrounding area. You will not find out of place fossils in any given age layer. Taking this further we can see micro evolution taking place. For example a gompothere elephant had 4 tusks. Others had shovel like tusks. Over vast periods of time these eventually died out and were replaced by various large 2 tusked mammoth species like the columbian mammoth better suited for open prairie and large predators. Horses had 2 or 3 toes for millions of years and were very small but gradually fused their toe bones together and grew much larger as the hilly forests changed into open rolling prairies. In north america the climate shift happened too fast so all the horses went extinct because they didnt evolve as quickly as the european horses. Theres so many examples but youd have to try REALLY hard to ignore all the microevolutionary changes and extremely well established fossil records to still believe the earth is only 6000 years old. Atheists are blind to creation all around them but creationists are blind to the timelessness of God. Atheists can't see that Gods hand started it all but creationists cant see that the appalacian mountains are much more ancient than say the rockies. Its so obvious just look! The evidence is literally everywhere.

This political "God gap" is a recent development.Up until the 1970s, progressive Democrats were common in church pews and many conservative Republicans didn't attend church. But after 1980, both churchgoing progressives and secular conservatives became rarer and rarer. Some Americans brought their religion and their politics into alignment by adjusting their political views to their religious faith. But, surprisingly, more of them adjusted their religion to fit their politics. We were initially skeptical about that proposition, because it seemed implausible that people would make choices that might affect their eternal fate based on how they felt about George W. Bush. But the evidence convinced us that many Americans now are sorting themselves out on Sunday morning on the basis of their political views. The geological time line is a relative time line. They like numbers of millions of years. When we look at the Grand Canyon we see many horizontal layers on top of each other but close-ups of these layers also show that they are completely separated from each other and the layers look rather homogeneous. How is this possible? Each layer is the effect of a recurring natural disaster, a huge tidal wave that is pulled over the planet, that is caused by a celestial body that circles our sun in an eccentric orbit. A thick layer of homogeneous mud remains on our planet. Fantasy? No, ancient knowledge that is available in books, legends, myths and religions. The many earth layers are solid proof for this recurring disaster. No scientist will agree to this because they all are focused on their small part of science. They know a lot about a little. Those natural disasters occur in a cycle of seven and create a cycle of five civilizations. The longest living civilization lives no more than 10,800 years. Nonsens? No, ancient knowledge and that knowledge is supported by many depictions that we find in museums on statues, cylinder seals, coins etc. The last time that this celestial body, planet X or nine, was seen and depicted and commented was just before our era. To learn much more about planet 9, the recurring flood cycle and its timeline, the rebirth of civilizations and ancient high technology, read the e-book: "Planet 9 = Nibiru". This book answers many of your questions about ancient history. It can be read on any computer, tablet or smartphone. Search: planet 9 roest

There are only issues with people using the wrong dating methods for each artifact.

@@jounisuninen Our dating methods are very dependable. The fossils were dated over 100 times using different methods and the findings all agreed. I think we can assume they are accurate.

@@jounisuninen There are currently four methods of dating fossils. When all agree you can be pretty certain of their accuracy. Heck we have dinosaur remains 260 million years old, bacteria 3 billion years old. A 2 million year old hominid fossil is relatively recent.

***you are right, fossils are not old, the proof is you, a younger fossil, and living. But some are very old, like millions of years, like today's years, not the biblical years that can not be more than 6000. How ridiculous some people can be liking to be ignorant.***

What about oil in the ground! We are taught that it comes from the fossils! But it as been proven wrong? Because fossils can be created in not a very long time compared to what we are taught in millions of years!

They do say a day to the Lord is as a thousand years to man, an God made the beasts of the earth so I imagine there were dinosaurs then an then flood wiped them out not a comet. Either way what I know is that God almighty is our Heavenly Father and divine architect. An Jesus Christ is our beloved Lord and savior! All glory belongs to Jesus and creator!

The Universe was pre-aged by God, the very fact there were trees in Eden proves that, or diamonds. Eden was not full of eggs or exclusively baby animals, they were adult animals. The very fact they could see any stars shows God pre-aged the universe, and that means he put layers of ice on the poles in the act of creation. He had to when you think about it.

Very interesting topic, but I could not finish it because the interviewer’s hmming was SO distracting. She needs to turn off her mic while the guest speaks. I just wanted to comment so you can work on that detail.

The lowest layer and hence the age of any fossils is not necessarily the youngest. Stratigraphy experiments in flumes can show the lowest/deepest layer can contain the youngest fossil.

Horizontal deposition and mega sequences. Relativity says that time runs faster in outer space where there is no matter. Distance increases (expands) and time speeds up. A day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day. 13 billion years ➗️ 365,000 (days) equals 35,616 years. Is the math right?

I believe in God and that God made everything including man and woman, but bones been hundreds of millions years old, ? My grandmother died and 20 years later my grandfather died and we buried him in the same grave, the only remains that were found, was the skull and some small pieces of finger bones, the rest of the bones turned to dust. This proves what God says, " from the dust you were formed to the dust you shall return " and one more thing that puzzles me ,scientists can figure out how old a bone is," million years old " yet when forensic scientists are given a body found by police to determine the age they can't come up with a precise age

I believe in the scriptures now, I have faith and certainty in them.... even before I had this sorted out, but so far i really like the videos on this channel and they have helped me. This one was very good. Many years ago I was an athiest and I finished classes in college such as physical anthropology (which has textbooks with supposedly "stacked evidence" of the fossil record for man's evolution through different species of proto-humans, etc.) , organic chemistry, microbiology, biology. All of these classes have evolutionary theory built into them. Hmm.... I can't remember what I was going to say, lol, maybe I'll remember it and post in a few....
