Poverty is also trauma and until that is addressed we will keep on putting the onus of healing generational trauma on the individual while not looking at the societal factors that contribute to it.

If people stop brainwashing their children to hate their neighbours, the children will play happily together, and the violence will stop, but the problem happens when the parents hate their enemies more than they love their children

Thank you for another brilliant piece, it makes me very happy to see the younger generation (Gen Z) talk about generational trauma. In Africa we have a concept of ubuntu which loosely translates to, “People are people because of people”. As society we are all connected in ways we sometimes fail to recognise. Governments have a long history of traumatising their very own people. One simply needs to consult a modern map of the borders of countries. Chances are good that any straight line on a border has divided a village, a community, a culture and along with that traditions and customs. A talk show such as this is a very good start to raise awareness of our actions. Encouraging people to talk with other people about trauma, be it generational or otherwise. My sincere hope is that we all become aware of our role, our actions and what we can do to reduce trauma and start the healing process. Well done to all involved

What about the descendants of the Arab slave trade. Oh right Arabs castrated male African slaves(70-90 percent died of the procedure or during the transport to the muslim world) and female slaves were brought to harems to be r-ed and sexually abused in harems so no black minorities could emerge.

Gen Z didn’t discover the concept of generational trauma. There is documentation of the concept going back over a decade. One of the best authors I’ve read on the topic is Resmaa Menakem who I’m pretty sure isn’t a Gen Z. Gen Z may be talking about it a lot but it’s not like this age group conceptualized. That said, if they are discussing and popularizing it then that’s very good. I hope one day we can get away from all the generational division, it’s artificial and not very helpful.

I learned about dna and only 10% of our dna is physical genetics, and 90% is emotional and behavioural. We are not born as a blank slate we are born pre loaded w reactions and habits that have been passed down through our ancestry. So those who look at this genocide and dont feel moved it is perhaps because their ancestry never had to deal w that
@NjorunsDream4 ай бұрын
That really doesn’t check out for 2 main reasons. During WWI and WWII mass murder events happened repeatedly throughout Europe, and most immigrants to the Americas were fleeing horrific conditions in Europe, which they then unfortunately perpetuated on the Native Americans. Same for Australia, most of the settlers were once prisoners. The 2nd reason this doesn’t check out, is that we know the main perpetrators of what is going on in Gaza, are survivors of the holocaust of WWII. Unfortunately, people who have experienced these things in their ancestral history can still become numb to these things. Flight, Fight, Fawn, and Freeze are survival responses, and numbing oneself to compassion and empathy is unfortunately a survival response in some people, coupled with the fight response. Unfortunately Palestinians are the scapegoat of another people’s trauma that had nothing to do with them. Gabor Maté has done really important and enlightening work on this subject. Also those percentages are wrong. 90% of DNA is not behavioral, and we have to take into consideration environmental factors that can cause a phenotype to express or remain dormant.
