The Normal type isn't supereffective against ANYTHING else... but are Normal Pokemon better than they were in Gen 4!? Pokemon Ruby is one of my favorite games in the franchise, and there are a lot of underrated Normal type options in Gen 3... but might it be a bit more challenging than expected in a hardcore nuzlocke? Let's find out!
We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon RubyHardcore Nuzlocke with only Normal types?

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of trading/importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

My first level 100 was also ruby! It was my starter swampert. It was impish, and I suspect it had terrible IVs as well but I didn’t know any better back then. With ice beam, surf, earthquake and protect, I was able to level it to 100 by spamming the elite four over and over lol. Also the only game I ever completed the Pokédex, and I ran the internal battery dry. So much nostalgia, I’m 29 years old and have never enjoyed a Pokémon game as much as my Ruby play through ❤️

I just did this exact nuzlocke run and it was super fun and helped me appreciate a lot of pokemon I normally (heh) would never use like Castform, Kecleon and Azurill! Can't wait to see how you did it in this video. My team by the end was Kecleon, Girafarig, Dodrio, Azurill, Castform and Zangoose. EDIT: Now that I've watched the video, I can say I feel your pain for not getting Skitty. Roxanne killed my first run because of that. On the second run Skitty's Attract and Charm can really let you set up more easily.

Zangoose ❤ I did a Mono Pure Normal (only Pokemon with a singular typing. No secondary types) run of Pokemon Reborn a few months ago, and Zangoose was very much the MVP of the whole run. Toxic Boost Choice Band Facade from an Adamant 31IV max attack pre-poisoned Zangoose SERIOUSLY takes lives. OHKOs basically everything that isn't ghost or Rock or Steel types. And even then, it still did some considerable damage to Rock and Steel types. Needless to say, Zangoose is a goddamn nuke.

I’ve played through every Gen multiple times, have done countless playthroughs of RSE, and never have I ever known that jigglypuff was an encounter in those games. Kinda wanna use one now lol

ya it's something i have mised feelings on. having a pokemon being super rare on a route makes it cool to run into, but if you don't search it up you sometimes may never know all the encounters of the route which only will become more of a problem as more pokemon are added. when there are things with a 1% chance kinda deal. i remember as a teen blowing a person's mind by telling him you could catch a Slowpoke and Grimer fishing in Celadon City in gen 1 and they had played plenty of pokemon themselves and also showing them the hidden cave in gen 4 to get Gible. sometimes i just think they have things so obtuse or hidden without looking it up its just a pain, like the Milotic cave puzzle with only 3 patches it will appear in 1% or in Gen2 when you had to figure out which of 3 trees of dozens had a 1% Heracross in it (or the Ecruteak City trees if you had some1 let you know it was easier there)

In Gen 3, Ghost type moves are considered physical attacks, and Dark type moves always special, so I tend to put Shadow Ball on my favorite normal type attacker, Zangoose. That, and I like using Linoone as my "I can't believe it's not water type" Pokemon, since the combination of HM's (specifically surf and Strength) give him a surprisingly viable set of attacks, and keeping him from just being an HM slave.

Dragon Ball. OF COURSE it was Dragon Ball. I didnt know the Hikui thing, and I yhought I had it wrong, but you reassured me by getting Chi-Chi, and confirmed it fully by getting Bulma. I can't say Videl fully counted since that is a name that is more likely to come up than anything. Great name theme tho.
