CAN I BEAT A POKÉMON SOULSILVER HARDCORE NUZLOCKE WITH ONLY PSYCHIC TYPES!? (Pokémon Challenge)

In early gens, the Psychic type was HUGELY overpowered. How do they fare in Gen 4 though? Pokemon SoulSilver is one of my favorite games in the franchise, and there are a lot of great Psychic type options in Gen 4... but might it be a bit more challenging than expected in a hardcore nuzlocke? Let's find out!
We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon SoulSilver Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Psychic types?

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of trading/importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

Fun Fact: Your Kadabra had the Synchronize ability which makes it so that every Pokemon you encounter has a 50% chance of having its nature.. which is terrible as it had an Impish nature and also the reason girafarig had the same nature

Honestly I got a bit confused when Slowpoke was called Catherine, but then I remember that’s Halsey’s (Cortana’s creator and the person who created the spartan program) first name But yeah it was kinda confirmed when Arbiter was named since Tartarus could have meant the mystical one from Doctor Who and not the brute chieftain from halo 2 as he’s prob not the first to come into my mind when that word is said

I rarely like videos, I watch so many good ones that liking just slips my mind and I support channels in subscribes and what not. However, I do like videos when they are truly breathtaking, relatable, beyond normal effort, or just simply make me smile more than other videos can. These runs are always great and I have hit the like button a few times for them. As silly as it sounds however, the nickname theme alone made me like 5 minutes in. Halo was my childhood and with adulthood, it can be easy to forget the happy things we once had that brought us joy. Great job appealing to so many audiences silph, you are an amazing youtuber

I literally started this challenge a few weeks ago lol. Instead of using normal Nuzlocke rules for the beginning section (since I'm playing on a real DS and it would be super time consuming to restart if I didn't get a good Unown) I caught a Pidgey and just encountered Unowns until I got one with a Hidden Power type that was super effective against my Pidgey, then caught that, and started from there. I figured it would likely be virtually impossible to beat Falkner without a Super Effective move unless we got crazy good RNG in the battle.

Honestly hidden power is great. I had a stantler one time. Something I don't normally use. But I needed a normal type for Marty. I taught it hidden power, tried to hit a normal type and it said "it doesn't affect it" turns out it was a ghost type hidden power. That's antler swept Mprty and couldn't be touched. Took her all the way to the elite 4 too and swept will as well

Assuming you're using the actual game (and not...*ahem* the """computer version"""), you could allegedly save Reclaimer using Pokemon Black/White to pull it from SoulSilver, then put it in the Pokemon Bank (and thus, transfer it to Pokemon Home) from there. I don't know this first hand, but that's the purpose of Bank/Home - to transfer pokemon from older games to the newer ones. ...and maybe make a profit.

Could someone explain how he got to Unknown’s HP type conclusion at 4 minutes? How does it being neutral into Mareep rule out water and how does it being super effective into Hoppip for sure make it ice? Couldn’t it equally have been fire here? (I know he wrote the script after the challenge, but this seems like erroneous logic and I am confused)

I was hoping someone else caught that. I had just assumed he was wanting to get to revealing the type sooner but some of that info he gave was just wrong.

Yeah it could've been fire, pretty sure he just made a mistake with the script and forgot to mention another pokemon

He got super effective damage against Hoot hoot and I think that was what officially confirmed it to be ice. The initial hunch could have been a bit off though

3:58 wait mareep is neutral to water isn't it? Or do electric types resist water moves?

Electric is neutral to water attacks, but Mareep being neutral removes Steel from the equation :)

Good video! Here's a tip for future HGSS playthroughs: You can get Charge Beam in the Department Store lotto depending on the day, which can let you score Charge Beam. This is huge for a Pokemon like Kadabra, who can set up on Whitney's Clefairy and oneshot or twoshot Miltank as long as you don't get screwed over by the lack of boosts. By grinding the Game Corner for Substitute, you can fix the twoshot issue, as you have the Sub to block the first hit. I've swept Whitney in several Nuzlockes with this strat!
