On your note about the straight single streets in towns, it could indeed just be laziness by Nintendo, but a couple Hawaiian islands are just like that. Kauai has basically one road that goes around almost the entirety of the island and many of the major towns work around that main road. If that main road is closed, part of the island is effectively blocked. So, the town designs loosely work like some Hawaiian towns. If purposeful, it’s actually a nice touch.

@@RoxieRoad thats the thing though... in sw/sh the towns *look super interesting*. theres no reason that the interiors would suffer if given propper development time and were custom fit for the area. the towns themselves turn into single roads too, which is really frustrating when we see such grand and interesting themes like motorstoke with its overindustrialization and the castle with its dragon spires and technically historical archetecture. we also have the town in a fairy-like forest, a town built around a spire reaching towards the sky... ancient ruins... the fact is that the themes are interesting and could lead to amazing places to explore. to say the interiors are cloned and uninteresting being the problem is barely scratching the surface

Same. I actually liked them alot the first time I played them but all the cutscenes and in game talking really kills their replayability. And that problem continued into the Ultra games. I bought Ultra Moon the day it came out and just beat it earlier this year because I felt like I had already seen everything before.

I'm pretty sure Samson Oak is in this game for the sake of easily explaining what the crap is a regional form. This guy is literally the Alolan form of Professor Oak. I would argue we should also have an Alolan form of Blue to further expand this family.

I really like how Igglybuff was a part of the regional Dex and obtainable early on since in most other Pokemon games you have to breed to get these baby Pokemon and it's nice to be able to put them on your team early on even if they're not that strong

Side note: Kukui’s not a Champion. He challenges you to defend your Champion Title. As in, you become the First Champion of the Alola League and then defend that Title from another Challenger. So Kukui’s not the “substitute” champion, he’s a challenger while YOU are the champion.

Technically professor kukui is standing in as the champion. He starts off by saying you are the champion now wouldn't it be nice if it were that simple unfortunately you still have one more challenge to go and that's me. Meaning you are not the champion untill beating him.

To see this video today is quite a surprise for me, because i recently thought about pokemon games overall and come to the conclusion that the Gen7 games (especially Ultra Sun/Moon) are probably my favorite generation/games so far. YES, the games have flaws, especially when you are an adult player or are someone who plays through the games for a second or third time, because the start is so super slow, but overall i really like the Alola region and what it brings to the pokemon games. So if i ignore all the flaws (each generation had) then i end up with a very beautiful game (thanks to the style), an interesting region, cool characters, a funny/cool evil team, the gym trials (which are a welcomed change to the known formula), the whole S.O.S. battle system and some neat things in the Poke Pelago.

Story, game mechanics and lore wise, SM/USUM its one of the strongest together with B&W/B2W2 (or better bcuz there are no freaking rotating battles gfd). Yeah the game start is pretty slow with all the cutscenes and it gets anoying how much handhelding there is. The rivals are more of an ash type companion, which is kinda nice as it makes the whole journey less, idk lonely? Like you actually create conections with these characters without it being as forced as XY. I also like the villain-not-villain teams as it shows the whole "not all people who act as villains, are evil themselves" and "you can have good intentions but awful execution". Which is more realistic than stuf like "I just wanna destroy the world and create my own lmao" (dpp are my fav games but still). Its a really solid game that doesnt deserve the hate it gets.

Exactly, it’s such a slow paced game and combined with the very small size of each island it really feels like you’re exploring in a small and restricted area instead of free roaming like in X&Y. It’s funny bcs nintendo said they made this game to utilize 3ds’ full potential yet X&Y feels waaay more utilized than this.

@@chendror872 They get so much hate from the constant cutscenes and characters constantly coming up to guide you as you can't walk places by yourself..it's very hand holdy which makes people feel insulted, it feels like they don't believe the audience is capable of not getting lost on a straight path which is not a good feeling. Many didn't finish it because the constant cutscenes and lack of exploration/independence was a let down, I personally couldn't get all the way through it and needed a break but unfortunately my system broke so i can't finish it.

Before gen 7, I only heard about the occasional announcement or leak for gen 5 and gen 6. But the months before Sun and Moon's release was the first time I really started paying attention to any news related to a new Pokémon game's release, whether that be an official announcement or potential leak. I had never been more excited for a new Pokémon game than I was for Sun and Moon, and that's why gen 7 is my favourite Pokémon generation to this day.

I started my first nuzlocke of ultra sun the other day. And I agree that there are many many negatives to this game. But I’ll tell you right now it is easily the hardest in the series. Those elite trainers slap harder then my dad. And don’t even get me started on the island challenges. I recommend everyone try to nuzlocke this game. It will make you cry. And not just the fact that if you white out you have to rewatch all the cutscenes lol

In my first playthrough of this game I wanted a Pokémon to counter the fighting trial, so I wanted to get a psychic type. I then over through it and got a Crabrawler because psychic is good against fighting (idk what I did) and ended up using a Crabrawler my entire playthrough. I was surprised when it evolved in victory road

I do agree, battling Kukui at the end was epic as all hell. Loved that. As for the "hand holding", well....do remember that the character we play as (like in all Pokemon games) is a child. Yeah, they could have cut back a bit, but still, we do play as a child.

Just because our character IS a child doesn't exactly mean we should be treated as one..In the zelda games you often play a child yet still get plenty of room to explore and be independent; I understand trying to make it realistic as no kid would be left alone, but no one likes being suffocated like that and treated like a dumb 4 year old so in the end it's a bad decision..good in theory bad in practice y'know? Not to mention plenty of other pokemon games layed off us and gave us exploration so suddenly restricting us like this isn't good and WILL cause people to be upset.

As someone who still continues to play Pokémon despite being completely blind for six years. As someone who never really had a vision for these games even I can find a reason to prefer the hand hold his story and that's so that it's easier for me to orient myself. But I will still say if someone could create a skit feature that was literally cut the one reason why it's a slog to always play through a new run of these games. TLDR I love Jen seven even though the hand holiness helps me because I'm completely blind. I wasn't blind I would still probably enjoy these games since Pokémon has been with me ever since I was a child

I don't really get why people hate on Sun and Moon so much. Literally just remove 60% of the dialog and cutscenes or make them skippable and I feel like people would like them much more. Even without that modification they are 50 times better than Sword and Shield in my opinion, and are tied with Black and White/Black 2 and White 2 for my favorite Pokemon games of all time. Although it might just be nostalgia bias, as Sun and Moon may not be the first main series games I played as a kid (that honor goes to X and Y, and even the second was Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire), they are definitely the ones that I played the most along side Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, or at least the ones I remember playing the most. They also at least tried to mix up the Pokemon formula (witch is almost always a good thing) with the island challenge, which was also implemented later in development, so can you really blame them for it being not as fully baked as it could be? Gen 7 is really the main generation I was playing Pokemon, as I didn't get Pokemon X until a few months before Sun and Moon came out and I didn't get Omega Ruby until a week before they came out, and I got Sun on release day, and I kind of fell out of pokemon when Sword and Shield came out, although Legends Arceus was alright (definitely better than Sword and Shield), and I'm hoping Scarlet and Violet are even better. Unfortunately however I don't think Game Freak can make a game as good as the gen 5 or gen 7 games until the Pokemon Company as a whole realizes they need to stop making Game Freak do yearly releases.

I absolutely hated the intro of this game, took waaaaaaay too long, but the rest of the story was one of the better ones imo, really liked the lusamine part with her freezing (her?) pokemon and "fusing" with a pokemon had a really dark vibe that I hadn't seen in pokemon a lot. still need to finish the rainbow rocket stuff in US/UM, but fighting against team leaders who succeeded in their plot sounds interesting.

Australia and double the price: it's not that bad. Australian money buys about 60% of what American money buys, but that also means that wages are higher to compensate. So the Australian minimum wage is about equivalent to the $15 that people were demanding a couple years ago. Where we get screwed is in anything tech related. Hardware? Software? I hate it that people hate all the alola games because of the cut scenes, but in my opinion, the cut scenes are what makes these games much more realistic and like you're actually a person going on a Pokemon adventure, especially in the ultra games where you can interact with Pokemon like they're just real animals you'll find on the street, either way, I love the real game aspects of it, rather than just every character staying in the same place and a text box explaining everything, this adds a realism to Pokemon that I love a lot 😍

The funny thing about that old Ultra Beast theory is that while it is completely wrong, the story does pretty well state the similarities aren't a coincidence and just have a dumb reason. Its stated that Lusamine was so in love with the Ultra Beasts that she dressed up Lillie to look like Nihilego. She made her grow her hair long, kept it straight, gave her that big hat and dress. Its even why her clothes were all white. Thus why Lillie looks like Nihilego. But what about Lusamine and Guzma? Well, if she made Lillie dress up to look like Nihilego, is it really a stretch to think she dressed herself up to look like Pheramosa? Or that she demanded Guzma dress up like Xirkitree? It would also explain why Guzma and Xirkitree don't look nearly as similar. I wouldn't be surprised if Gladion was supposed to dress up like one as well, but just refuses to, while Lillie continued even after fleeing because she was still somewhat under her mother's control. Overall, there is an in game reason... Its just nowhere near as out there as the theory was.
