NOTE TO EVERYONE: Evidently the audio may or may not be a little screwed up toward the end - I'm not sure how that happened, sorry! KZbin doesn't really allow for replacing videos under the same URL and so for the sake of not rendering an 80 minute long video on my poor PC again, all I can offer is a quick apology! Will do better next time :) Thanks for the support, everyone!

that endurance race, you figured it out, the AI will also if their tires reach the right wear level pit on the final lap. No matter the case the pit routines of the AI are very easy to cheese in Gran Turismo 3. Thats what made it so fun.

@@PaulTheFox1988 I'm not sure what I hate more, B8 or B7 on PAL. B7 is BRUTAL too, it requires 33 seconds or less for gold and no matter how many times I try (173 tries later and STILL no gold) I'm always off the mark ;/
@PaulTheFox1988

@@Movellandrone yeah b-7 is really unpleasant, iirc the long right hander before the second tunnel (turn 5 according to gran-turismo fandom) is key, you have to push so much harder than you think to try and keep above 110kph (about 68mph) and even if you nail it you'll only just scrape gold. It's been a long while since I've done that one and for some reason it doesn't stick in my head as much as b-8 does, b-8 just feels so much worse and almost like it gleefully revels in its sadistic cruelty. :(

@@djbrohawkWell thankfully for you, I believe the same challenge in GT4 won’t be impossible! You’ll have a lot more races to scavenge prize cars in, and should have enough of them to get to the credits without spending a penny. EDIT: I lied lol. Completely forgot about a thicc boi cup, but you could definitely beat GT4 without upgrades and *almost* no car purchases otherwise. Could also try the Randomizer mod and see if you get a truck as a prize car otherwise?

just something I wanted to point out real quick: at 4:00 you mentioned not knowing when to shift in certain license tests. one way to get around this is to launch the car without spinning the tires. take a few tries to learn what RPM to launch at and how much throttle to give the car, and not only will shifting be easier, but from my experience, you can even gain a few tenths of second over simply spinning the tires when done properly. this really helped when I was golding certain license tests like B-8 disclaimer: I have not watched the full video yet so sorry if you figured this out already lol

I still own my PS2 copy and never "beat" the game by seeing the end credits, but I did get all golds on the licenses, and with how much there was to do, I pretty much considered that enough. I did it all on console on an old Logitech wireless PS2 controller. How I did it was "RC car" controls, I used left stick to steer, and right stick for gas/brake for much better control of both, with Shift up/down on R1/R2. Not as good as wheel obviously, but workable. This was how I played until analog triggers became a thing, as it worked very well on Dual Shocks for GT2 all the way through 4 and Tourist Trophy as well.

I think there are some differences between the different region (JP vs US vs EU), so that prize car list you were checking might be correct for another version of the game. If you want, you might give it a go with another version of the game to see if you can pull this off. Also, just IMHO, I'd cut a lot of the driving license tests and give the actual races more air time.
@djbrohawk
@djbrohawk Жыл бұрын
That's a good call, I have not seen a JP prize car list, I've only seen an NTSC and a PAL prize car list, of course neither of those are JP. I will have to do some research on that but I'm open to it! As for the licenses, I completely understand, my take on that is that a lot of the racing is just extremely boring, unless folks would rather watch me drive around by myself on the tracks just kind of as nostalgia for the tracks themselves, which is a possibility. I drove the F688/S round and round with no competition at all since I didn't have to do the Formula GT, etc. - to me, that's not interesting to watch no matter what kind of monologue I'm doing during it. Since the licenses are kind of a struggle, it serves as kind of a "oh yeah these suck" plus it's also a "how to get gold" guide for the licenses that are necessary for the challenge, if that makes sense. I will definitely keep that in mind though :) I suspect GT4's going to have plenty of racing air time.

Another very entertaining challenge. I'd say my main recommendation for any future challenges is to go into them with a bit more of a pre-researched strategy, or at least cut out some of the searching around menus and cars to decide what to do next. I liked the format of showing each race in a cup simultaneously on screen.
@djbrohawk
@djbrohawk Жыл бұрын
I've considered that, I do like going in somewhat blindly because it adds an element of fun for me, but I also recognize the menuing can be a bit boring to watch. I try to use that time to get a bit of "here's what I'm thinking" out there as opposed to just showing a video completely on rails, but I may be able to do that in other ways. I did like showing the races simultaneously but my PC absolutely did not like that LOL

59:24 The Celica GT had a 1ZZ-FE, the GT-S had a 2ZZ-FE. Both displaced approximately 1.8 liters but the bore/stroke are different and the 2ZZ was Toyota's only engine equipped with VVTL-i, their version of Honda's infamous V-TEC. The first year of the 2ZZ is preferred as they had a marginally higher rev limit than subsequent years, allowing them to remain in the powerband when shifting. The 1ZZ was prone to failure from..... a combination of factors that lead to increased oil consumption, detonation/preignition, and ultimately bearing damage. The 2ZZ was susceptible to the same problems but to a lesser extent; they mostly got a bad rap from people beating the snot out of them and neglecting to do any maintenance. Perfectly reliable engine when you change the oil on time. Signed, A guy who has spent waaaaaay too long playing with Toyotas.

Just so you know - in gran turismo 4 you’re able to map the acceleration/brake to the right analog stick. After awhile I found it much better to play the game using this for when I wanted more precision because (at least at the time) the left/right analog bumpers didn’t exist. Alternatively, consider sliding your thumb atop the accelerate / brake buttons (almost akin to how you’d gently move your foot on the pedals in a real car that’s particularly sensitive). That will feel odd at first, but because the DualShock controller’s shape buttons are *technically* pressure sensitive, you can get a more fine control that way.

There may not be an on screen option to map them in GT3, but the right analog stick is defaulted to acceleration and braking (at least on PS2). Did you know that? Unfortunate if not, but you have my respect for using the X and Square buttons, cause that's a pain! 😂@@djbrohawk

One way to improve your times, especially improve consistency on license tests, is to not just hold the throttle during countdown. When launched, there can be quite a variation of rpm when just holding throttle through the countdown. Instead, if you time your throttle to the countdown you can, with practice, get a more consistent and predictable rpm at launch. In times where 10ths, or even 100ths of a second can make the difference, having that predictable launch can be the difference.

one note regarding controller. as ps2 games, gt3 and gt4 support pressure buttons, so you may be having a hard time fine tunning your speed when playing on emulator or with third party controllers that don't support this feature. alternatively you can change the controller scheme to use the right analog stick to accelerate/break.

In the events with multiple prize cars, there's a trick you can use for your advantage. Race all the races and save the game before the last race. Start the last race, win it and see what car you get. If it's not the one you need, quit game, load game and repeat the race. Do this until you get the car you need. Also, this way you still get to win the race series.
@djbrohawk

Yep! I've done this one many times, definitely saves the headache... ...until you need it for a 2 hour endurance race...haha

@paulocarvalho6480 Жыл бұрын
@@djbrohawk Yeah, you're right. Another way to do it ( some people might say it's cheating) is to do the last race of the series, win and then start the series. After, you can do the same as in the previous comment, quit before the last race, and that's it. All races are gold in the event.😁

Last time I played GT3 I chose the setting that puts accelerating and braking on the right stick, then I mapped those axis to my ps5 controller's triggers and just played it like I play gt7. Being precise on the throttle helps so much, having it be an on or off switch just makes driving smoothly so hard.

I believe if you were going for a specific prize car for a series/endurance race and didn't get it, you could do the series again to "spin the wheel" to get another chance at winning the car you were hoping for. I know it's not the most fun in the world winning 3+ races in a row just for a chance at a car... but it might be a way to get one of those prize cars that could win one of the tough cups you couldn't get to.

In case no one has explained it yet: to get rid of the ghost car I believe you simply have to exit the test entirely and re-enter it. My guess is that the game only saves/updates your ghost for as long as you're currently doing the test, once you exit the test it resets the ghost to off since it also resets your personal best time back to 0. Of course the obvious thing is to select NO when it asks you if you want to update the ghost Lol. Again that's my assumption, overall really interesting and fun challenge 👍 Also holy crap 43.000 on B-8 I would've literally ran around my house screaming YES!! 😂😂😂

Also, for GT4. I don't remember what the A-spec points are for, but you can easily cheese the game to farm a lot of them without buying anything. I believe it is A class license earns you a Ram 1500 truck. Entering a truck into any non truck race automatically grants a full 200 A-spec points. Cheesy, yes. Free and in game? Yes, heh.

A spec points are basically just bragging rights. There’s no reason to farm them for the purposes of this challenge. However, the wiki says that specifically the Ram 1500 and the Chaparral 2J always get 200 A Spec points because of a calculation error regarding the power to weight ratios. So there’s that, I guess

You should learn about the powerband mechanic as it could really help you in these games. Like for example on that Skyline license test you were struggling to gold it, but if you look at the speed when you're on mid rpm the car goes much faster than when it's near the redline. So the solution is to shift early so your car can go stay in mid rpm on the next gear Also another good advice, in this video you talk about getting bored on some of the races. So why not turn on the music, but in order to avoid getting copyrighted, you mute the game sound on the recording so only you can hear the game sounds while playing
@djbrohawk
@djbrohawk Жыл бұрын
During the endurance races I had (American) football on another screen and regularly crashed LOL I'm familiar with the powerband stuff. In my GT1 video you'll notice I started shifting the Dodge Concept car a little early because I noticed it was faster - I actually went into Test Course and tested it for myself but I didn't put that in the video - I've jokingly dubbed myself "DJ Pit Boss" with my racing team because of how anal I am about everything, including when to shift cars. Historically the GT-R's have been something you rev out (in GT7 anyway) and so I didn't think about it too much. :)

While GT4 is not doable (due to e.g. pickup cup), mayyybe it would be doable for GT4 with Spec II mod, once it comes out, as it aims to (among many other changes) better distribute cups/races and prize cars. Keep that in mind if you're interested :)

I think this is possible to beat PAL version of Gran Turismo 3, because NTSC-U version is bigger in the question of content, but a bit narrow in question of prize cars, for example in PAL version you can win Nissan Skyline LM Road Going version in Rome endurance, and in NTSC you can't how you said in video

While you are absolutely correct that 100% is completely impossible, surprisingly enough you can actually get to 97.7% without any car purchases; though I haven't tried it without spending money on upgrades. I totally get why you didn't do this (endurance racing and all makes for a seriously long challenge), but I would be interested to see someone tackle this at some point.
@djbrohawk
@djbrohawk Жыл бұрын
Maybe some day! These challenges take a really long time and unfortunately my free time is somewhat limited, I have a sim racing team and another hobby (I'm a ballroom dancer which is probably super random to a GT audience LOL) that takes up a lot of the time I do have when I'm not working. My GT4 video had at least 20 hours of play time on it - only had about 16 hours of footage but not everything I did was captured, like the middle of an endurance race or grinding up to 25% to even get into the endurance races (spoiler alert) I'll write that idea down, though!
