Incase you didn’t know, Diamond and Pearl has completely random AI. From the wild Pokémon to Cynthia they all pick their moves in battle completely randomly with no thought to type advantage or disadvantage. This was fixed in Platinum

Fun fact: as far as I can tell, Platinum is the only third version to have outright version exclusives: Magmar, Electabuzz, Tangela, and Tropius are only found in Platinum even when accounting for DP’s post game. Sounds like it’d be a fun run.

Platinum did add a ton of new Pokemon to the pre-Nat Dex, and it’d still be fun to see Eevee, Rotom, and Giratina in a run, but almost all the mons were in DP’s post-game and were just made available earlier. * Elekid and Magby are technically available in DP post game, but only if you insert FireRed or LeafGreen after getting the Nat Dex

The non-fire Pokémon in Flint's team makes sort of sense if you think about it. Steelix's Diamond entry states it was tempered underground by heat. Drifblim is a hot air balloon and Lopunny is... oh. 😐

20:00 So don't know if you realized after the video, but Dialga is way better at special attack then regular attack. Iirc Attack is 120 while Special Attack is 150, so aside from EVs, that's the reason why it was so low compared to Rampardos' 165 base attack. Soooo basically, Adamant was actually the worst possible nature you could've gotten lol.

Your Dialga having less attack then Rampardos is normal. Dialga has 120 attack, Rampardos has 165. Dialga has a whopping 150 special attack though, which makes sense as his signature move "Roar of Time" is a special attack

Using Ancient Power on a Rampardos is a crazy strategy. MDB, this is gen 4, Ancient Power is a special attack now. I'm pretty sure keeping Rock Throw would've done more damage

Movesets seem weird this time around. No Earthquake on anyone. Honchkrow gets Dark Pulse via TM. Can flinch, better than Fly missing. Dialga gets Overheat.

That was a wild one. Thanks for sharing this one, MDB! I, for one, am worried about how the Pearl run would go... there are some trade-offs, but overall I think it's going to go worse... + Access to water moves with Palkia means the Elite Four is probably going to go a lot smoother. + Pretty good movepool on Misdreavus/Mismagius, gives some nice options for dealing with things. - Trading in the bulldozer Rampardos for the tank Bastiodon. Early game is going to be so freaking SLOW (think Shuckle but with worse typing for Shieldon). - Purugly comes a lot later than Skuntank (not until Route 218, right near Canalave), and while it has its uses it's not quite as good as Skuntank. -- On that note, Gyms 3 through 5 are definitely going to go rough, and I can see Candice giving you a hard time too... I am certain you can do it, just prepare for a slog of a run until you get Misdreavus's better moves and Palkia.

MDBAMA: On runs like this, where it's applicable, have you considered using national deck pokemon as your starter? If you're using the randomizer to change the starter anyway, it seems like it would be more fun to have a little more verity. Obviously you wouldn't use it to get super op pokemon, but starting with something like Syther may have been fun here (haven't watched much of the vid yet)

Hopefully he gives you a proper answer, but... In general I would say probably not, since the point of exclusives runs is to use a team of Pokemon you could construct out of those originally available, which wouldn't include the postgame/National Dex roster. A similar line of logic to why he doesn't include postgame trades in runs where he uses in-game trades only. (In the other exclusive runs he starts the game with a regular starter then catches his first exclusive; he didn't do that this time since the first D/P exclusive normally isn't until Eterna Forest and the fossils in this gen are a massive luck-based grind to get, so it's better to just start with one)

Did anyone else see MDB beat the 8th Gym halfway through the video and feel concerned that there was gonna be a massive, negative health update at the end of the video in the outro? But then felt huge relief when getting to the end of the challenge realizing the challenge just took a while and so the outro would be short? Challenge suggestion: The Glow Up Challenge. Gen 3 or later, game of your choice. Only one Feebas for the first 4 gyms, after which you must glow up (evolve into Milotic) and finish the run with only one Milotic.

Little challenge request but I would love to see a gen 5 run with only volcarona. May reason? Its a lovely moth bean and cause it gets crushed by the many water, rock, flying and shenanigans. And also cause I really like to see you sweep with my favourite bug type. In future version exclusive ones, i say it would be okay to use a "national dex" mon as your starter, just to add more team variety.

Despite the huge un-balance of the team I think you can make it. Maybe at high level like somthing between 80-90 but I think you can beat the game with those 3. Mostly due to the they aren't that bad pokémon to train. I don't know their moveset much but with at least 2 of them specialize in physical attack, I think you can beat them without too much struggles. I'm looking forward if you keep in mind Murkrow is only catchable at night. Pokémon Challenge suggestion: You are free to go with the game of your choice, but the challenges is using only middle evolution stage pokémon. (For Exemple: If you pick Bulbasaur as your starter, you can only battle with Ivysaur.) You are not allowed to use pokémon who's has no evolution or only 1, it must be a pokémon with a 2 stage linear Evolution. So pokémon like Eevee or Tyrogue are not allowed, but pokémon like Oddish, Poliwag or Ralts are allowed. Try number: 22

MDBAMA: Can you do a gen 2 run with "poisoning moves?" You'd be stuck with steel pokemon, but you can use Twineedle to poison them. For some reason it can only in gen 2. It's a bug move that can poison, but it's maybe better than using struggle. That's also why I named it poisoning moves instead of just poison moves. Or maybe poisnous works better. Whatever, I'd like to see steel types get poisoned.

I have an idea for a fun challenge, One that means you could even use Drowzee. Can you beat Pokemon Black (Or any game from gen's 5 ,6 or 7) with only the move Assist? Purrloin learns Assist at level 6 so it'd be the starter, Then if you get a male Purrloin you can breed it with other's to get more Pokemon. I think this would be a great wacky challenge since the more Pokemon on your team the more random the move is. For any that don't know Assist uses a random move known by any of the user's party Pokémon, With some exceptions. So even Pokemon that can't use Assist would still be useful if they have good moves that Assist can use. Drowzee is in the Human-Like Egg Group so If you want one with Assist you'd need a Spinda since they're in the Field and Human-Like Egg Groups so can breed with Purrloin and Drowzee. You could also use a Chimchar as a starter if you give it Assist as an Egg Move, They're also in the Field and Human-Like Egg Groups so a male one can breed the move into any Pokemon with Assist.

You should do a pokemon platinum run where you can only use pokemon that were added in that were not included in diamond and pearl's pokedex, such as the magnemite line, the eevee line, the swinub line, tropius, the magmar and elctabuzz lines, and a lot others. it would be another team run, but it would be super diverse and would love to see what you end up going with. if you end up liking it, another in pokemon black 2 and white 2 would be interesting !!

A Black 2/White 2 run would actually be a relatively relaxing run, since in Black/White the only Pokemon in the base game are the Gen 5 roster and you can catch a Riolu right at the start in Flocessy Ranch. Still could be fun, though. One of Platinum would be really interesting, though I'd have to check when you start actually encountering the Pokemon that are Platinum only... he may need the randomizer to start with one.

Nope, Skull Fossil in Diamond, Amour Fossil in Pearl. Platinum is kind of weird - you find Skull Fossils if your Trainer ID ends with an odd number, and Armour Fossil if it end with an even number.

Pokemon challenge idea: Pokemon Platinum with Pokemon DP random move AI selection. Probably for trainer fights only so that grinding isn't a slog with wild pokemon. But yeah. No pokemon restriction, but at least one move has to be a "dud" move such as status moves and weak early game moves in the late game.

Would you consider doing a Pokemon GO moves only run? As in, you can only use moves a Pokemon can learn in Pokemon Go (For example, Venusaur can only use Vine Whip, Razor Leaf, Petal Blizzard, Sludge Bomb, Solar Beam, and Frenzy Plant). Some extra rules could be applied if you like. For example, when i did this challenge in Shield, I could only catch the first route per encounter, and I had to use 1 or more Fast move and 1 or more Charged move on each Pokemon, as long as it was possible. You could also include an "Only 3 moves" rule (1 fast and 2 charged) to mimic movesets Pokemon could actually have in the game Some Pokemon have very limited Pokemon Go movepools, which is what would make the challenge hard. Especially if you allow 1 encounter per route, as you can't pick and choose your Pokemon as you like.

this is a technicality, but Mime Jr is only in Diamond and Bonsly is only in Pearl after getting the national dex, and even then, its by the random mon that can appear at Trophy Garden daily. They could TECHNICALLY be called version exclusives.
