Here’s an interesting one: Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver with only Game Corner Pokémon. You can get some pretty decent Pokémon, mainly Dratini. Problem is, you won’t have a full team until Kanto since you can only get 3 Pokémon from the Game Corner in Johto. You can also get some decent moves but it will take a long time considering that the TM’s for Thunderbolt and Flamethrower cost 10,000 coins.

This doesn't seem impossible at all. While Ice Punch seems like the superior option for Venasuar because it hits super effectively it's actually Earthquake that ends up dealing more damage. With stab Earthquake actually has the same base power as Ice Punch in this situation(150), and since it runs off of Wooper's attack stat and Venasuar's weaker Defence stats Earthquake ends up dealing more damage. You probably could two shot Venasaur with Earthquake and Quick Claw luck.

It's frustrating to watch. Just like with the Spinda challenge, he could have at least tried a different strategy, but he didn't. Instead, he opted for nothing more than brute force and type advantages, and gave up quickly when that didn't work. I think that these Pokemon challenges are tiring him out, since he isn't being as creative as usual. I don't want to sound nasty since I admire the effort Mah-Dry-Bread puts in every week to get these challenges done, but that is just my observation.

This run really shows how access to good typing and moves can more than make up for bad stats. Wooper's stats are mediocre at best, but a movepool of Ice Punch, STAB Surf, STAB Earthquake, and Return has excellent coverage and power, meaning the only thing Wooper really can't handle is grass types that are sturdy enough to stand up to Ice Punch. (Ice Headbutt, I guess? I mean as you noted, Wooper can punch despite literally not having arms.)

Yeah, maybe he did try more, but the way the video comes across as if he just instantly threw in the towel, which after just grinding to level 100 in gen2's sinful level curve it feels like the fight deserved a lot more actual attempts. Here's an interesting idea for a run, a baby trainer run. What I mean is, use the same team as an important trainer in the game you're playing but use the first forms/baby forms of all of their pokemon. Not sure if it would be as hard as other runs but it sounds interesting to me.

I know people have done runs in the past with Weedle/Caterpie but would be interesting to see a run with just using Kakuna or Metapod. Don't see many runs of just Horsea & just Kangaskhan either so would be interesting to see them too

Kakuna and Metapod are probably impossible. Like, actually impossible. Kangaskhan is pretty easy, as the stats are really good and it can learn loads of moves, both physical and special.

@Mah-dry-bread do a challenge where you start with 1 Pokémon and then after every gym you replace that 1 Pokémon with one you find on a route. You can only use 1 pokemon for every gym. Love the channel you’re awesome

You should have done this run on crystal. After beating the elite 4 in crystal there are move tutors in goldenrod that have ice beam, thunderbolt and flamethrower. Ice beam may have been enough to 2 shot venusaur

Hey MDB! I've been a fan for a real long time. I don't know if you have your next few challenges planned out but my birthday is on June 26th which is a Saturday I was wondering if you saw this if you'd be up for doing a Pokémon challenge with Growlithe. The many mysteries of Pokémon: 1. Rhydon using surf if its 4x week to water moves. 2. Goldeen's Peck can hurt ghosts but not its Horn Attack. 3. Doduo and Dodrio can use Fly without having wings. 4. Wooper can use Ice Punch without arms.

Another great one, can you try a fossil challenge next, Lileep and Cradily in Emerald, or Cranidos and Shieldon in Platinum. If not that, then a run with a beedrill and a butterfree, as a counterpart to the beautifly and dustox challenge.

I love Wooper! He's so cute. If I might make a suggestion to you Mr. MDB for your next challenge, I've done some digging. Magnemite in Red/Blue is not the 1st pokemon people think about when they think of a potentially hard challenge. But it only has 1 damaging electric move learned naturally to pair with a special worse then Chanseys (95 vs 105) doesn't have the benefit of being a steel type cause gen 1, and it's overall coverage is quite terrible. I can see you beating it, but you'd probably have to get crafty with sonic boom early on to grind, and mimic/toxic to defeat the final battle.

I think I mentioned it, but In HGB/SS use an HM Pokémon to smash rocks in the Ruins of Alph, so you can get a fossil. For Example, "On the way though, I used Rock Smash on the Rocks in the Ruins of Alph until I got a Fossil. I ended up getting an Old Amber. I knew if I didn't say what I got, you'd all ask. It was actually an Old Amber. It took 54 rocks, and, and out of all of them, I got 4 Green Shards, 1 Blue Shard, and 12 Wild Encounters to boot. The other 36 were duds. It IS a grind, but seeing is how you have time, I'd really love for you to try that out.

It would be interesting to see you do more group challenges. Maybe something like Pokémon Platinum (the game doesn't really matter) with only Normal-type moves? I'm doing that right now in Sword, and it's pretty fun so far; maybe you could do it with no in-battle healing?
