Even if you were lower level than Red's fully evolved pokemon, don't underestimate the power of Stat Experience. That mechanic makes Gen 1-2 challenge runs SO easy (I even beat a Yellow Nuzlocke on hardcore rules FIFTEEN levels below the champion)

When I was a little kid and didn't really understand much about pokemon, I played through the whole game with beautifly or dustox. With poison sting, and never knew it had the chance to poison. Because it literally never triggered my whole playthrough And yes, stupid kid me had Many chances to use that move

I suggest a Red/Blue run with only Magmar. If you look at its move list you’ll understand why. If you want throw in no Tms for added challenge I’m pretty sure magmar would have one of the highest base stat totals for a mon in a single run that you’ve done so far.

I have an interesting idea: pokemon emerald but you have one of each Pokémon, however after each trainer battle you have to get rid of the Pokémon that were used. No evolving either.

In most of the main games, there are some pokemon which are there by default. You know you’ll find Zubat in caves, Magikarp by fishing with the old rod, Pikachu somewhere and of course, Tentacool on every channel. Most of the time, these pokemons are underestimated because of how common they are, bar Magikarp because everybody knows how good Gyarados is. But besides Pikachu, they actually have a pretty decent final form. But this time, we will focus on the non evolved form of the jellyfish, I guess, pokemon. Tentacool doesn’t even need to evolve to be quite competent. Sure, it is lacking on the physical side, be it offensive or defensive but it carries a good amount of physical resistances thanks to the poison type, which will especially help against the Rocket. On the special side, while it’s not that great when it comes to its offense, it will still be totally usable, mostly because it will have stabbed water type attacks. And 50 is not too far from the base stat of some starters. Where Tentacool really shines is iss speed, with 70, quite decent, and its great special defense. It has more special defense than Mewtwo and great special resistances thanks to the water type. Having the water type usually means the pokemon has a great coverage, because he is able to learn the water and ice combo. Sure, it is not as effective as the icebolt or groundbolt coverage, as it’s resisted by many other water types, but it’s way better than what most pokemon used in solo runs can even ask for (look at Mareep from a few weeks ago). On top of that, the pokemon can obviously learn Return or, even better in this specific case, Sludge Bomb (stabbed, physical with a chance to poison) if the player want to play a mixed pokemon, it would be a waste not to anyway. It also has Giga Drain for the very late game, though it doesn’t add much imo. Let’s not forget about the ability to get Curse, a staple in Gen II. Yes, it will lower its good speed, yes, you can only get in Kanto but it will help the pokemon with some very bulky threats (Snorlax), Quick Claw exists and it will boost its weak attack and defense. This was one of the most uneventful run I’ve done. I died a few times here and there but I never had to train because Tentacool is that good (relatively speaking). That was expected, Ice and Water is a solid combo while Sludge Bomb adds both a physical stab and the potential to poison the opponent. Kanto was Kanto, a carnage. Even Red felt short, despite my jellyfish being at level 73, because I was able to setup curses in front of a frozen Pikachu and tank both Espeon’s Psychic and Blastoise’s Surf. Charizard was outsped (at minus 6, yes, but that’s what the quick claw is for) and Snorlax didn’t hit.

Wow... that was a wild run. I mean, sure, Red's difficulty is overblown, but being able to beat him on-level with a Tentacool? That was just crazy. Mah Dry Bread did a great job with this. Though, for anyone else brave enough to try a run like this, Exeggcutor actually has pretty flimsy Special Defense, so Blizzard will deal better damage than Sludge Bomb.

Hey Mah-Dry, this was a great run! I just wanted to say that if you're ever looking for some games to play on the channel, I'd highly recommend looking at Okami and Okamiden. They're highly underrated games, and few people I've spoken to know about them. If you like Legend of Zelda play style mixed with a bit of platforming+great storytelling and amazing music, I'd recommend giving it a shot!

Hey I think cradily and armaldo are underrated, so I'd love to see a Gen 3 fossils run! Also because anorith learns watergun at level 19, even though it is bug type, it is probably the safer bet to start with. Lileep should be fine too, but the only damaging grass moves it gets are from TMs.
