I have an idea for a fun challenge, One that means you could even use Drowzee. Can you beat Pokemon Black (Or any game from gen's 5 ,6 or 7) with only the move Assist? Purrloin learns Assist at level 6 so it'd be the starter, Then if you get a male Purrloin you can breed it with other's to get more Pokemon. I think this would be a great wacky challenge since the more Pokemon on your team the more random the move is. For any that don't know Assist uses a random move known by any of the user's party Pokémon, With some exceptions. So even Pokemon that can't use Assist would still be useful if they have good moves that Assist can use. Drowzee is in the Human-Like Egg Group so If you want one with Assist you'd need a Spinda since they're in the Field and Human-Like Egg Groups so can breed with Purrloin and Drowzee. You could also use a Chimchar as a starter if you give it Assist as an Egg Move, They're also in the Field and Human-Like Egg Groups so a male one can breed the move into any Pokemon with Assist.

Plus, Ghost Types are misprogrammed to fail against Phychic Types in Gen 1. No wonder Gen 2 had to introduce Steel and Dark Type Pokémon to balance things out.

Oh yeah, I've been waiting for this one! This was my first and only unintentional challenge run that I did as a kid. I'd just watched the episode where Ash's Primeape competed in a fighting tournament, and became obsessed with the idea of using one myself so that's what I did. Started a new game on my copy of Yellow, caught a Mankey to the left of Viridian City and solo'd the entire game with it. I did let it evolve into Primeape but being a 10 year old I'm still really proud of that accomplishment! Anyways MDB I can't wait to see how your run turns out! Gonna call it right now that you've got this!

I have a suggestion: Pokemon Platinum with only one Murkrow. Or if you want to use a different dark type, Pokemon Emerald with only one Sneasel. Murkrow is a glass cannon and Sneasel in gen 2 and 3, dark and ice are all special moves, and its special attack is awful.

I'm not sure who came up with the idea that the Fighting type is "Hero type"-that's never been the case. The Japanese name is and has always been _kakutou_ which just means "fight, wrestle". It does have a connotation of honour since the Dark type covers dirty tactics (biting, feigning injury, ganging up on someone, etc.) but it's not supposed to be inherently heroic.

I see the argument, but isn't bug also the "hero" type? That's why bug beats dark, because heroes frequently have bug costumes in Japanese media, and the dark type is also the "evil" type (still no idea what's going on with Absol in that regard)

25:50 As a viewer I don't like premieres because the notification I get on my phone doesn't have the "Add to Watch Later" button which is my main way of watching YT. Normal uploads, I can just press Watch Later on the notifications as they come up to add to my queue for the day, but premieres I'll have to remember to manually go to the channel and add them to my list from there. It's a minor inconvenience but I spend most of my day every day up on my feet doing housework/cleaning/caretaking with my WL playing from my phone

Can I just say I'm glad your not doing premiers. Those forced me to wait until the premier was over to watch the video. There was a 0% chance I would be there right as it started so I'd have to either join in late or wait until it was done to watch it. And then there was a decent chance I would miss it and not watch until the next day. This time I was just busy all day yesterday. Comments are good for the youtube algorithm (and premiers are bad for it apparently)

Y'know it's funny how many people say they subscribe and can't see videos. I've never subscribed to you and yet every Saturday your video is at the top of my home page and my main listen on my drive home from work that night. A few years ago I watched some of your let's plays and got recommended them a lot but they weren't for me as the challenges are what I prefer, so KZbin rarely shows me anything but your latest challenge. So for me it works perfectly, I guess.

I am once again asking you to take the fossil opposite the one you say you took. Just to see who notices. Yes, I know he took the Dome fossil on a fossils only run when he started with Omanyte. But that is not what I mean. I mean I want to hear "I took the Root fossil" while seeing the Claw fossil being taken. Or hearing "I took the Helix fossil" while seeing the Dome fossil being taken. And to those who say that this has happened before - when? Show me! I've looked and looked and have not seen it! Please don't just say "I think he did it before. Yeah MDB probably didn't realize this because Rock Slide isn't used much in Gen 1. Rock Slide starts causing flinches in gen 2, although I'm not sure if there's any gen past gen 1 where Rock Slide doesn't cause flinching.

Here’s a suggestion: pokemon but no stab (same type attack bonus) moves. For example, a fire type can't use fire moves or a normal type can't use normal moves. Whether they can use statues moves of the same type or not is up to you

A suggestion for a rather difficult challenge. "Assist only run" where in Black 1 you have to use something like Purrloin and only use assist. You can have whatever other pokemon you want on the team for Assist to go off of. You just can't use them lol

Blaine may have "Good" a.i, so is programmed to use moves that have a type advantage instead of random moves. Trouble is game sees agility as a psychic type move and will spam that even though it's a non damaging move if there's no better psychic moves available

MDBAMA: Are there any Pokemon challenge type requests you wish you'd get more of? (eg: more solo playthrough requests using middle-of-the-road Pokemon like Chimecho, Qwilfish, or Porygon, more interesting/quirky team playthroughs like using only Pokemon obtainable at the Celadon/Goldenrod City Game Corner) How about Pokemon challenge type requests you wish you'd get less of? (Eg: less solo playthrough requests using blatantly weak Pokemon like Magikarp, Luvdisc, or Bidoof, less playthroughs with blatantly torturous rules like no new moves, Metronome only, or no free healing) As for the Mankey playthrough, I am pleasantly surprised at how low a level you were able to beat the game at! I've always felt that the Mankey evolution line was underrated, particularly with it being one of the few fast Fighting types. However, I didn't think it could beat the game at a level as low as 62 while unevolved. Not that I'm complaining, of course.

21:00 Actually, that's not entirely true. In the newer games at least, it depneds on who used the attack that caused the draw. If you use a recoil move that takes an enemy pokemon, and it takes them both out, then the pokemon that last attacked (The one that used the recoil move) is declared the winner! So, if you take out the enemy pokemon with a recoil move, and it takes you out and ends the battle, then you win, because technically your pokemon died last. The only instance of you losing the draw with a move that takes out both pokemon, is when using either Self-Destruct or Explosion, since you're pokemon dies first

Alakazam will never use Recover in this run. Every Alakazam you fight is programmed to go for super effective moves, and Recover is not a psychic move - it's Normal.
