How does that work when you take someone else's pattern and make money off of it. I realize that the copyright has expired on the original pattern, but these patterns are now in the public realm. My understanding of copyright law is that you can't make money off of them unless you can legally extend the copyright. Is it the fact that you've made a video tutorial that allows you to make money off of something that is in the public realm? I'm just one of those weird people who is curious about everything.

Please don't feel defeated! This is an opportunity to learn and improve. After you've done more wearables, you can come back and try again. It's an exciting challenge! I admire your courage in trying new and difficult things, and doing it on camera. Keep up the excellent work!!! ❤

Tipp:( when you try to make fitted things)Take a fitted TShirt and you have the points when you have to increase or decreas.
@aliwilson4130Сағат бұрын
How do you know the fitted shirt fits you well? Like where should the seams fall? The shoulders? It’s been a question on my mind because I feel like nothing fits me
@Chifaire2 сағат бұрын
I actually think you might have it right, or at least close to right, considering the way garments were constructed back then. If you roll your shoulders up and back, pulling your shoulderblades together and sitting up straight, it kind of resembles how a corset and dress would shape your body. The wider chest and narrower back makes sense with how sleeves were set into dresses, although the back on this piece looks narrower than necessary (it's hard to tell on the dressform alone). Glad to see the book make a return, I watched one of your Flip and Pick episodes the other day and was hoping you'd bring it back soon. Looks like you heard me :P
@Teverell30 минут бұрын
YES! I just said the same thing; sleeves were set much further back than we're used to in modern garments. It's amazing how just fabric can alter your posture when the sleeves are set as they were in the nineteenth century, even without a corset.

Just started watching and my answer is YES... ESPECIALLY if you have both the destructions AND a picture! Can hardly wait to see this come together~

Miss Corrina. The first thing I want to tell you is that you have an amazing skill set that you should be proud of. I learned how to crochet when I was 7, my grandmother taught me how to crochet doilies. That was 53 years ago. I have spent a lifetime “hooking”. I too was afraid of making garments. I didn’t even try until I met a young girl that could knit like crazy and she gave me the most profound piece of advice. “Follow the pattern, and trust the process.” I was over 40 years old. I have made dresses for myself and my grandchildren. Just because we can’t visualize the result doesn’t mean it’s not correct. I also sew and armholes are shaped differently in the back verses the front. To this day, when I’m working something that is confusing to me, I take one stitch at a time. I don’t try and take the entire row as a whole. I understand that some of those instructions may be confusing to you, they are to me as well! Again, one stitch at a time.Starting to crochet when I did, I was never able to reach out to the designer and ask questions. There just wasn’t any way to do that. I was working from my grandmother’s Workbasket magazines from the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s. When you are ready, go back to the pattern where it starts the back and look at what you did that differs to what the pattern says and remember, you didn’t even attempt to add the sleeves. I’m thinking about giving this a try even though I have never done Tunisian crochet. I’m really old school and require the written pattern on paper to work. If I do tackle this, and see you haven’t returned to it, I’ll reach out and we can figure out together. Your skill set far exceeds mine. Remember, there is nothing you can’t do.

I need to check my 1880s fashion bodices and ref notes Corrina but i am pretty sure you are on the right track with this pattern. The Late Victorian arm syce is set further back than is customary today: straightening the spine and pushing the bust up and out like a prowe in front and pulling the shoulders back. If i am right the crochet pattern shld narrow between the shoulder blades then widen towards the shoulders/ top of bodice again as you work towards the back neckline. Give me 24hrs to check for you. Stay strong its looking marvellous!

I have a sewing background to confidently tell you, in my opinion it is two different worlds. Don't let that fear hold you back. If your skill set is crochet, that is all you need. This is noted at the start of the video because I feel like you will excel at this task.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I'm starting to really like Tunisian Crochet. I have made a few things, pillow, dish cloths, and such. However, I'm itching to start a Tunisian wearable, but it'll have to wait. I have a ton of wips that need finishing first.

I just frogged a granny square baby blanket and steamed all of the frogged yarn to bring it back to life, it took ALL day 😅 But that’s the best part of crochet. Take a breather and start again 🧶🧡

But the arm holes are correct. Arm holes started way in the middle of the back at tha time. Thats how they did it. Its right. Your accidental decreases made the shoulder shaping a bit too narrow, so the backs and fronts didn't quite match at the shoulder. But i think you can do it! Keep trying, ans fudge it where you need it! Lol Fudging it where you cant decipher what they want, is also VERY historically accurate! Lol

Bear in mind that sleeves were set further back in 19th century garments anyway (just look at the backs of Regency dresses, for example!), which helps with posture. I'm not a knitter or crocheter, but I think you were on the right track, just possibly decreasing (increasing?) too much. I really hope you can work it out and finish it off, it'll be lovely when it's done, and you can adapt it for a history-bounding everyday piece of clothing.
@annemcginn108618 минут бұрын
Also, if you can see an image of the back to see what shape the sleeves are from the back it may give you some guidance as to how the back should be shaped.
@joanneentwistle76533 сағат бұрын
With shaped garments, just try on alon the way and adjust as necessary, you can do it!
@annemcginn108626 минут бұрын
The shaping for the back after the armholes would not be less than for the front. The front arm hole is usually more curved than at the back, this allows for the arm to move forward and from right to left more easily, if you get my drift.

@joannburke7239Сағат бұрын
OK this is just a guess, but, what if you made front panels and stitch them together then attached to back? 🤔🤷♀️ haha its looking great so far though, dont give up!
@RealMelodyBlue3 сағат бұрын
You might have messed up a couple of rows, at 7:15 in the video you read the book as increases and then you said decreases. Those rows would be 16, 17 and 18.
@dawn52273 сағат бұрын
I caught that too. It was an increase rows but then proceeded to decrease.
@justvintagecrochet3 сағат бұрын
That's ok, I don't think it affected it that much, thanks for pointing it out :) It was just an accident, I get easily distracted filming in my living room HAHA, hopefully, one day I will have a room all to myself to film in

@@justvintagecrochet I hope you do too. Distraction happens. Thank you for all you do for us.
@tanyamartin13882 сағат бұрын
This might be why the back got really narrow. There weren’t enough stitches in the panels so when they were joined there weren’t enough stitches for the back panel so that small omission made it much more difficult to follow.
@tanyamartin13882 сағат бұрын
The back might be feeling a little narrow because of the decreases you did instead of the increases you were supposed to do in the very first panel you did.
@justvintagecrochetСағат бұрын
I hear you , but those panels and just the bits that are hanging off the bottom of the piece, and it was just 1 accidental dec on just one of the panels, that one stitch would not make any difference on the back, the issue is I'm struggling to understand the written portion for the back, I can't picture what they are describing, I'm going to keep learning though lol :)
@NorseNicky2 сағат бұрын
Sorry to say I was following well but got confused by the rows that used the word omit. What did they mean?
@justvintagecrochet2 сағат бұрын
Omit it to remove or disregard, so in crochet terms , we skip those stitches at the end

Now that makes sense. Thank you.@@justvintagecrochet
