Can I go from 5 pounds to over 15lbs of boost for under $10

In this video we start the quest for more power in our freightliner fl70 rollback tow truck. We want to unlock more potential from our #cummins #5.9 #12valve #12valvecummins #diesel so we started out by installing #glowshift guages #pyrometer #egt and #boost to monitor engine performance. We follow that installation up with a #testdrive then we install a cheap boost elbow to go from 5lbs of boost stock, to just over 15 pounds of boost! Man I really like that Truck! And really love the Cummins content! I would love working on that truck. Great to see You have a new Turbo for it when the time comes. You should definitely have more than 15 pounds of boost stock. But going from 5 to 15 is a big improvement. Boost numbers seem kinda low before and after the elbow installation. Should be 15 or so stock and up around 25-30 after. You might have a boost leak.

I have a feeling that is true 👍 One of my next steps is to do a boost leak test. Installing the gauges to monitor things was just an initial step. Thanks for watching!

I really like your vids - especially the IDI videos you have done since I just picked up a 1994 F-250 with the 7.3L IDIT. I was watching your video - would the boost elbow work on that setup? I would think I could limit what the wastegate sees to increase the boost. I’ll be running a boost gauge and pyrometer as well. Although, some of the reading have done says just to unhook the boost line to the wastegate, plug the line, and let it take care of itself. Thanks again for all the great diesel content and spreading the old skool word!

Cool project and I can’t wait to see the upgraded turbo. But it definitely has a leak. I’d check all your intercooler pipes and “I’ll bet it’s the rubber hoses” that have a leak. You should be seeing 12psi and I think 20 max. If your running high egt’s and getting smoke outta her that where your issues are. But can’t wait to see how the build goes. I’m thinking of building one for my KZbin channel as well “mjmisadventures” to haul our sxs’s and 4 wheelers. Great job bud and keep up the good work

@@worthshop awesome man and thanks for the reply. I’d honestly just replace the rubber hoses “they fall apart after 4 or 5 years normally” and then just test the intercooler. And some autozones and napas have the tools for rent “might have to get a radiator testers” to check. But after watching the video a couple times I questioned you having a boost leak “especially after the gauge” as it comes up especially after the little turbo tuner” and it set there. Maybe try pulling pulling the inlet tubing and see if the turbo is just worn out. Theirs another guy “don’t recall his channel” but he’s building a twin turbo setup on an old fedex truck. But keep the context coming. I’m considering buying one “with the little sleeper” to haul our sxs so I’m trying to get as much into as possible for sure.

I have had glowshift guages in a couple trucks without issues. But have heard alot of bad stories about them. So far so good on this one... Wish there were more budget friendly options on the market.

Pretty sure a 6.7 has a variable vane turbo so no.

Hey I have a question my 6.9 idi it's got a lite knock I think it might be injectors but idk Can you help me out

In my experience, a sticking injector is much more likely than a bearing or something in the bottom end. Loosen injector lines on the engine one at a time with the engine running. When you find the one that changes the sound when loosened you know which one is bad. You can try some atf or diesel kleen in your fuel to lube it up and unstick it.

@@worthshop so I filled the fuel filter up with ATF and ran it but as long as it was running on ATF there wasn't a knock but as soon as the ATF ran out and it started running on diesel again the knock came back
