To use your examples, if someone asked how your day was and it’s been bad you could simply say “it’s been bad, I don’t want to talk about it” or just “I don’t want to talk about it”. If they ask your most uncomfortable moment you just say “I don’t want to tell you that” that statement is not a lie, it is simply avoiding the question, which is well within the rules.
