For a challenge, I tried surviving in a Death World in Factorio for as long as I possibly could. Different type of survival story video for this time, and a bit more introspective.

I love the 2 methods of story telling that are going on in this video. On one side you have your narration ever present with a mostly monotone description of events, strategies, and other such stories. Then there's the camera in a quiet yet extremely emotional and energetic method of storytelling as the living embodiment of "show, don't tell".

Those last two beeps at the very end brought me to tears. It reminded me that what has been lost is not a loss, nor do they cease to exist. Instead, they are sacrafices that motivate and empower us to grow, so that we may feel sorrow today and grow stronger tomorrow, and in the place of what we lost, we rebuild stronger in an attempt to avoid the inescapable. But without losing, we will grow weak as without loss, we cannot feel and we cannot learn. I work each day to avoid hearing these beeps, but through existance, I will hear these beeps again.

even tho i never played deathworld i might have a few tips; don't be afraid to mass produce burner drills at the start just to get enough resources for electrical items, in deathworld it's more about speed than about minimizing the amount of pollution or waste at the start. Before putting down anything, I recommend planning out on the map (maybe with markers) where you are going to put stuff such as the smelters, main bus etc., since biters wont attack you at the start of the game, only after you start producing pollution. Blueprints are a BIG friend in this case, and getting a small automated red research up and running ASAP is the best thing you can do (3 assemblers and 1 lab around an electric pole is enough). Also after you passed the initial stage of getting to electrical stuff efficiency is your new goal, and getting to know all the basic ratios (circuits, red science) is VERY useful as not to waste time. Anyways, good luck with your next playthrough! hope you make it further...

I like the touch where you used Bolero as the background music; a piece centered around the same tune, over and over again, just like your deaths in this kind of world. But, just as you gradually gain more and more knowledge for each failed run to make the next slightly better than the last, Bolero adds an extra instrument, an extra harmony, every loop. As you say at 9:15, 'only one thing at a time'.

Deathworlds are great! I have a couple suggestions which may help you next time, first you should be setting up more automation of factory components early on, even if it's only a single assembler making belts and assemblers just load them into a chest for later having them available makes rapid expansion to exploit any new space much faster. You need to beeline towards flamethrower turrets, they are the best turrets when dealing with Deathworld waves, since they out range Spitters and Worms. This is also critical for clearing bases, since Deathworld bases tend to have way more big worms, which can instagib you if you try to place gun turrets inside their huge attack range. You need to set up piercing ammo production as soon as you possibly can since big biters are essentially immune to basic firearm magazines in turrets and the medium biters have resistance on top of additional health. Adding a forward wall or "Dragon teeth" set at 1-2 squares inside the range of the turrets behind your main wall helps with Spitters, since they end up running into the first wall and attacking it instead of your turrets initially if their range is less than your turrets. This works better with flame and laser turrets with their long range but automating laser turrets takes more resources and time than flame turrets.

Great Video! I love Factorio. A few tips for a deathworld: No desert and more trees (pollution doesn't spread as fast and the trees absorb), more burner miners - A LOT MORE. About 16-20 on iron, 12+ on coal, and 4-5 on copper. By the third day you should be able to automate ammo and turrets because you have enough mats. Don't even bother with electric miners until after your little base has been well established. Hope to see another one soon!

Love the video! One thing I always do with the ammunition delivery circle line: I use splitters to add a (small) piece of belt for each turret, to increase the reserve for the turret. It does take longer for the belt to fill up, but it drastically increases the time before a turret runs out of ammo

let me tell you something. as an avid DW player, with around 1.4k hours in factorio i loved this video. theres two ways to play DW: fast and efficient, no wasted time like you showed. or slow and methodical, allways keeping an eye on the red zone on the map, teching and prepping for the snowball that is the eruption of base building and fortification with enough materials to pave the world in walls and turrets. unlike a normal map, a Deathworld has two important allies, cliffs/water and trees. even though trees are usually the enemy, on a DW they get to live as long as possible. personal experience: i learned to embrace the mainbus with ammo on it on a deathworld and sectioned and staggered defense lines. and a personal "bunker" in the middle of it all.

As an avid deathworld player, I've got a couple tips for you. First, you simply need a higher turret density once you've started automating things. Second, try to keep your base more compact, I noticed a lot of open space and that is a mistake. You want as much crammed into as little space as possible, it's messy but it makes it easier to build and supply enough turrets for defense. Third, resist the urge to research things all the time, if you're struggling for ammo turn off your research so all your iron goes into ammo production. Now, if you want a really wild challenge, try a rail deathworld. I did that with the RSO mod with the starting resources set to 5x normal, which is about what you need to build up a base and have enough resources to expand. I basically found myself having to create corridors made up of rail lines, laser turrets, and walls through huge biter nests to get to the inevitably distant ore patches. It's honestly the most fun playthrough I've ever done, I've stuck with that world so long that my base has basically become a gigantic military industrial complex with artillery blasting everything that gets too close.
