@spaceracer23... did you forget MJs "there's a new sheriff in town," statement to Magic and Bird... when they were older at that. I was alive for that. The context Lebron was speaking about was/is...if majority of the fans called the 73-9 Warriors the GOAT team... logically, what would that make someone of his stature for being leader of the victors? ...in other words, if it were MJ, would pundits sharade him with 🐐 status, I believe so. The bulls developed a system over the years just as the warriors did over time...they just have a direct connection to tie the two legacies together to attempt to further prevent the Young King from being more significant within NBA lore. In the MIC(Military Industrial Complex) some of us like to call it convert operation. Brons been a threat since he had the open run as a 16 year old child in Chicago with a then, soon to play for Wizards old Jordan looking to pad the stats surely because the wizards were not pursuing Championships...we don't hear MJ supporters defending why the 🐐s team weren't title contenders at that time... different system, different personnel is the logical answer. As we are in the moment, observe the expectations Bron has still in year 20 now that he's playing against his sons peers! LivefromNEO! No disrespect.

Every time this argument is brought up, the amount of championships and the stats are always brought up. The big thing missing that people rarely bring up is defense. You want to have a debate on whether Jordan or LeBron had a better offensive game? Sure, go ahead. But Jordan was a lock down defender. Had multiple all defensive team selections, could shut down the other team's PG, SG or SF and did it all while scoring 30 a game. 30 a game when the average amount of points scored by a team in a game is lower than the current era of basketball. LeBron was a good defensive player for the early part of his career, but never great and now he just doesn't play much defense. If we're just looking at how each player played and not who won the most, you could argue that Jordan scored more and LeBron was a better facilitator and say they're even, but defensively, Jordan wipes the floor with LeBron

You’re out of your mind LeBron James was lockdown defender for 10+ years, could guard1-4 and most 5s too. I honestly think people forget stuff like this because he’s played for so long but in his prime he was the best defender in the nba for a substantial amount of time.

O believe he missed them all because he only knows one shot especially at this poiny in his career, a step back three. I dont think that Nick understands the concept of organized team basketball. Im of the mind that we cant just take LeBron out and insert Jordan et al. The Bulls played wonderful team basketball with specialist at each position, for the most part. The dynamics of the team wouldn't be the same with a different focal point that plays a completely different brand of basketball. You forget about how that would or wouldn't complement the other players, remember? LeBron's highs are higher, but his lows are lower. Jordan was the most consistently excellent. Thats where LeBron falls just a touch short, and thats a huge category for me.
@junhoward359
@junhoward359 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Jordan has only reached those heights with a single team. Yes the roster wasn't the same throughout the 6 championships, but the core was, and they replaced certain specialists with greater specialists. Without that system, do you really think Jordan would've won all those rings? He still would've been great, but I don't think Jordan would've just fit in any team. There is constant documentation on how Phil and Tex Winter had to keep Jordan from playing selfish ball. LeBron took multiple rosters to the promised land. If he had a consistent roster, he proably would've won more rings, and in part that is his fault, but the debate is who is the greatest player, not team. Takes 12 to win a championship. Yes Jordan was the Alpha of that team, but that 6-0 argument is wrong. Jordan didn't score all the points or defend all 5 players in the court. He had teammates who excelled in their roles. That is the definition of organized basketball, people sacrifice aspects of their game to allow the team to succeed. Jordan didn't want to play outside of his comfort which is why we were stolen of probably 5 more years of excellence, although I honestly don't think Jordan would've won anymore rings after the Bulls broke up. Yes the 90s Chicago Bulls are the Greatest Team of all Time, but the debate is at the player level. Furthermore, people love bringing up the Dallas Meltdown, but let's not forget that the same Dallas Team that defeated LeBron and the Heats, swept the defending champs led by the great Kobe Bean Bryant, who was probably the best player in the league at the time. Before they faced off against the Heats their record was 12-3. Yes on paper The heats had a far superior team, but that's how organized basketball works. And as Nick stated, LeBron scored an average of 27 points per game throughout the series. Talent keeps evolving, the game keeps changing, there will be someone who will surpass LeBron at some point, and then someone will surpass that person, and so on and so forth. We just need to accept that everything evolves and someone who is better than X person will come along, even if it's a rare transcending talent that only happens once every two decades. In truth, we just need to enjoy what is left on LeBron's career, it's almost concluding.

None of the pundants want to actually analyze this because literally everything besides longevity favors Michael Jordan by a large margin. The difference in individual accomplishments between Michael Jordan and LeBron James is literally a top 20 all-time caliber career. In every Advanced metric Michael Jordan is the best of all time. When compared to the positions they play Michael Jordan is near the top three or four of every statistical category on a per-game basis. LeBron is only top 2 in shooting an assist compared to small forwards. And nobody brings this up but in the playoffs Michael Jordan is literally light-years ahead of everyone else. So Jordan has more of every major achievement, Rings, MVP's, finals MVP's, Scoring titles, DPOY. Jordan has 2 three peats, and a 6-0 record in finals. Lebron certainly leads Jordan in some stat categories, (rebounds per game, assists per game). Jordan leads in Steals per game and scoring average, blocks are even at 0.8 per game. Jordan is all time leader in Player Efficiency Rating and Box plus/minus meaning he is a more efficient player while on court and a more valuable player than Lebron. This is where Lebrons large turnovers total really hurts him. A players ENTIRE resume needs to be taken into account when deciding something as monumental as greatest of all time, and Jordan's complete resume of achievements, stats, contribution to the game, and supreme play style collectively have earned him the GOAT title, which has been his for 25 years already.

Just want to start by saying if Jordan is your GOAT, I got no problem with that. It’s not cut and dry. There are points that can be made for Jordan and I don’t necessarily think you are wrong. But to be fair, I think we all can agree lebron got robbed of the dpoy in 13. Anyone with basketball knowledge would agree that as an overall defender (all 5 positions) lebron was better than Jordan. Rings and finals mvps it’s impossible to argue. Jordan has 6 of each, lebron has 4. I will ask though, besides 2011 which finals did lebron participate in where someone else had a better series (based on stats obviously). Finally, I think there is merit to the argument that an entire career plays a part in the GOAT discussion. Lebron may finish with 40k/10k/10k by the time he retires. Something that may never be repeated. Championships are won by teams. It’s tough for me to look at their two careers (top to bottom) and say Jordan was objectively the better baller.

@@gregorytoms6043 40k/10k/10k is an accumulated stat. By that same token. [MJ 40% chip win pct.] Bron has a 21% chip win pct, 4 out of 19 seasons, and that stat will drop 1% every year he plays without winning going forward [Missing the play-in]. We play to win the games period. So if a player supposes to be a GOAT, shouldn't he win more than he has lost, despite having far more talent than MJ on his team? or participation is considered more valuable than winning. Coming in second place or less is better than 1st at winning the title? Whats better? beating a juggernaut once 73-9, and losing to them 3 times. Or, being the juggernaut year after year fate year with two-three-peats and winning 72, 69, 67, 62, 57 and 61. As James McKellar stated, Mj owns all stat avgs vs Bron, it's really not even close. He blows Bron away and he did it in fewer games. That's efficiency at its best. It's all about being the best and having the hardware accolades to back it up and WINNING THE MOST. You cannot omit 2011, it happened regardless. You cant debate with What IFS. You use what IFS, we say what IF MJ never retired and played from 1984-2000? MJ gets 41k total points. As in Business, it is the same with judging the GOAT criteria. It's who is the most efficient across the board in the shortest time frame. not longest. You have to hit your milestones. MJ hit his, but Bron did not. He is an underachiever for someone with his talent compared to MJ. He should have done far better, but he did not. @@brock5786 That's my point, it wasn't terrible, and you have to remember there were many reasons for 3s not being a big part of a guard's game back in their time, one of which is that the 3 pt line wasn't as short as it is now. The 2 seasons in his prime where they did shorten the line (95-97), Jordan shot over 38%. "He didn't want to" can be a valid excuse if that part of the game was inconsequential to his play, which meant he didn't really need to develop it, and with how lethal Jordan was at mid-range and how good he was at getting to the rim, shooting 3s was an unnecessary risk for him. @@kiarra_volleyball23 "He won all six but what about the other years. Half the time he couldn't get out the first round. Goat James by a mile and its really not close" Rookie Jordan on the 1984-85 Chicago Bulls lost in the first round to Milwaukee. Next, in 1985-87 over two years they get beat in the first round by one of the greatest NBA teams of all time, the 1985-87 Boston Celtics. In 1988-1990 for two years they make it to the Conference Finals and get beat by a two-peat “Jordan Rules” Bad Boy Detroit Pistons team. Chicago then won their first three-peat starting in 1990-91. Lebron’s Cavs missed the playoffs entirely from 2003-2005. In 2005-2006 they made it to the 2nd round Eastern Conference Semifinals before losing to the Pistons. In 2006-2007 made it to the NBA finals against the Spurs before losing. In 2007-08 Lebron’s Cavs were eliminated in the 2nd round against the Celtics. In 2008-09 Lebron’s Cavs were eliminated in the 3rd round Conference Finals by the Orlando Magic. In 2009-2010 Lebron’s Cavs were eliminated in the 2nd round by the Celtics. Then came Lebron’s little “Decision” move to Miami Heat. In 2010-2011 Lebron’s Heat made it to the finals against the Mavericks, losing in probably the greatest meltdown any NBA player of Lebron’s magnitude with a superteam like he had has ever had. He literally quit during the series, as his own teammate Eddie House accused. FINALLY, in 2011-2012, Lebron won his first title with the Heat against a much weaker OKC. So let me get this right, you have cute accusations about MJ not getting out of the first round, when Jordan actually made the playoffs every year, unlike Lebron. Jordan makes it to two straight Conference Finals after only three years, with Jordan getting to and winning three finals in a row after that, so only SIX years after getting to the league he won his record breaking three-peat. Lebron fails to make it to the playoffs his first two years, he loses in the playoffs in the 2nd round three different times, the 3rd round once, making it to but losing in the NBA finals twice, the last time in the one of the greatest meltdowns ever, before FINALLY winning the Finals after NINE years? But while he won again the next year, it only a two-peat?? In what delusional reality is this superior to MJ? In what clown world is this a legitimate accusation to make against MJ when Lebron’s actual stats and history are FAR worse? And guess what, MJ didn’t have some big “DECISION” where he stabbed his own hometown team in the back to move to Miami to form a superteam just to finally win a championship. Jordan took his team from losers to one of the greatest teams of all time, if not the greatest. Lebron? We know from numerous reporting that Lebron, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade all got together and discussed among themselves their upcoming 2010 free agencies together in 2006, YES 2006, and that Lebron decided back then that he would join with them to win a Championship. He wanted Bosh and Wade to take on more of the offensive load and he specifically wanted to try to be the first player since Oscar Robertson to average a triple-double in a season. Let me repeat that. This is in 2006 over four years before he decided to make his big “DECISION” for Miami and he already knew he was leaving because he and Bosh/Wade had already agreed to it. AND THIS WAS THE YEAR THAT THE CAVS WENT TO THE FINALS. THAT is Lebron, that certainly isn’t Jordan. Lebron is no GOAT.

Chris is 100% right... Unfortunately Nick And Shay Sharpe have to weave complex narratives and "what ifs?" to make a case for Lebron. You can make Jordans case without mentioning ANYBODY ELSE. They have to diminish and downplay the validity of others achievements to pump up Lebron's less is more argument.. Coming back from 3-1 down is a bigger acheivement than NEVER BEING DOWN 3 GAMES? Its not like Lebron didnt play the first 4 games. But to answer Nicks question.. The metric used when MJ officially passed his peers was the 3-Peat. That put him ahead of everyone (except the 60s Celtics). And he did it twice, retiring without defending for a 4th so was never actually dethroned. Lebron needed at least one 3-peat to match and a 4-peat to pass......

There never was a debate, Michael Jordan is the GOAT. 1. He won more with less help, 2. Better offensive player, 10 scoring titles, 5 regular season MVP, 6 times FMVP and 3 times all-star MVP. 3. Better defensive player, 1 time Defensive of the year, 1st team all NBA defense 9 times and 3 times Steal Leader, so if he's better offensively and defensively what is their left? 4. He won more titles in less time, 6 times NBA Champion and 2-3peat. 5. 2 times Slam dunk Champion. Lastly, Jordan didn’t need longevity to do what he did. P.S. MJ is the only player in NBA history to win the NBA's scoring title, regular-season MVP, the NBA championship, Finals MVP, and make an NBA All-Defensive team in the same season. On top of that, he was able to achieve this in 4 different seasons; 1990-91, 1991-92, 1995-96, and 1997-98. He would have achieved it 6 times, but the NBA awarded the MVP to Charles Barkley in 1993, and to Karl Malone in 1997. If Jordan had won MVP in those years, he would have had 6 seasons where he accomplished each of these milestones. Case closed. Please stop this nonsense comparisons. I don’t understand why they compare scoring averages, in the 90s it was normal to see a game with a final score of 88-79. This clearly means Jordan’s 30 is more impressive as it is a larger share of point total. LeBron’s era an average final score maybe 116-109

No Lebron can pass him it's just gonna take a while Lebron needs to win at least two more rings. Jordan has a better record vs 50 and 60 win teams in the playoffs so even if LeBron gets to 6 rings Jordan has the advantage because he beat the better competition. It's not like Lebron can't catch Jordan it's just that he likely won't. But if he does that would be so cool

Never, Jordan did it with one team in a way different game of basketball where they played both defense and offense! Nowadays it’s about being a mercenary and super teams. Back then just about every team was a super team with a, b and c level players. Jordan had the pacers, knicks, heat, hornets, cavs, pistons, Celtics, suns, sonics, jazz, rockets, trailblazers, spurs. @@ikngzdroiid LeBron created collusion and team-hopping to eliminate rivalry and competition within a conference. That's why from all his trips to the finals, still trails MJ in finals games won 24-22 and is the all-time leader in finals games lost and in 2nd place for finals series lost. He hasn't been able to achieve that in the west as evident by missing the playoffs entirely his first year there reminiscent of how he didn't reach the playoffs until his third season in the east. The teams that did develop organically that he faced in the finals all have a winning record against him (Mavs, Warriors, Spurs etc). These are the calibre of teams that existed through the 80s and 90s and are responsible for MJ having eliminated the most 60+ win teams in NBA history with a 7-2 record. At this moment in time, LeBron has only beaten three 60+ win teams largely in part to his collusion which voided the eastern conference of any real rivalry or competition in his 16 years there, as evident by MJ winning six rings in a seven year span and it taking the post-MJ eastern conference 20 years to win the same amount.

The only time in LeBron's career where an Eastern team made the playoffs with 35 wins was Philly in 2012. In a 66 game season, so their record was 35-31. That same year Dallas made the western playoffs with 36-30.
