Hi Joshua! Fantastic performance today. As a "sbang pilot" myself I'd recommend not focusing so much on trying to do the "sbang move" and just focus on the new feeling of the quad. When you stopped focusing and just allowed the quad to do its own thing, thats where the sbang was coming. Its nice to learn new moves in sbang but in all reality, its about forming that new connection with the quad. Sounds cheesy but you got this.

Every I time I see the missing rail in the fence, I wonder how many times Mrs. Bardwell has asked for it to be fixed. Luckily, it’s now a staple for FPV flight on this channel and must remain as part of the course!

Yes. The less expo you practice with, the smoother and more accurate your flying will become, which seems counter intuitive when you start, since you'll initially feel more jerky and less controlled. But after several dozen hours in the Sim, you'll see it pay off. Edit: first

do i then run with 0 expo? tryna improve in both sbang style and normal freestyle and i wonder if 0 expo benefits both? also 0 expo does that mean my lines are completely flat or is it okay to run different centre and max rates?

The biggest difference I've personally noticed between your approach and the majority of other Sbang pilots is just sim-time. Not STICK-time, but actually honing the style in the sim. From what I understand, this flying style was mostly developed in a sim with a handful of pilots flying together and pushing each other toward more and more extremes (which is much easier on your wallet in a simulator). TL;DR Sim-time!

Linear and find the rates where a sharp stick bang results in a 180 and go from there, also don’t ad input too soon after each move

Yes joshua! Linear rates are so much better man! I haven’t looked back since switching to linear rates 2 years back, i use it for all my rates now, on actual rates give a try to setting expo to 0 then add some centre sensitivity, only a little to smooth just the centre of the rates but you should keep that snappy feeling you’re after ;) i try to keep my max rates fairly low aswell like 660 max roll I liked the video and watched all the way to the end ;)

I've been trying to emulate the same style of flying myself. I haven't tried linear rates yet, but I know doing preemptive full throttle-ish stabs before each change in direction helped me a lot.

My non-FPV friend watched some flow-sbang and said it looked drunk. The throttle stab to drift with the momentum while turning on another axis yeah, can look drunk.

Yeah JB.. There's something about that style of flying that is very attractive. Especially to people that like the technical moves. Please continue because you have our attention and if we are having a hard time following along with how you do the tricks, we can still look it up somewhere else. Thanks man!

I primarily fly DRL sim and Street League IRL and I have linearized my rates. .55 super and 1.2 for others. My idea behind it is it creates better muscle memory for racing especially momentum based drones.

well you don't have to go FULL linear 😄 try something like 1.70 / 0.50 /0.00. also setting tpa close to 100 helps with snappyness. your tune looks kinda soft for sbang.
@BowOneFire
@BowOneFire 7 ай бұрын
How would high tpa help with snappyness when high tpa makes the pids extra low at high throttle?
@prottentogo
@prottentogo 7 ай бұрын
to my knowledge tpa only reduces D at higher throttle, so it's more sharp at high throttle maneuvers. you may need to reduce filtering to the max to avoid prop wash tho.@@BowOneFire

I played with throttle curve for almost a year and came to the conclusion that linear throttle was best. Until yesterday. I built a 2” Odonata and struggled to get it to hover steady. Any tiny stick movement (throttle), it bobbled. I gave it a 0.5 throttle expo and it was so much easier. As well as my 5” quad goes, I’m sticking with no throttle expo.

My suggestion here is to have a really good sbang pilot fly a specific pattern at your location. This will then become similar to a martial arts form. Then you fly that flight, copying everything they do, and repeating it until you get it perfect. You will see your progression, like you see a white belt doing a form compared to a brown belt doing the form compared to a black belt doing the same form.

no, Bardwell. the only thing preventing you from getting better is that you keep trying to convince yourself that you're no good. cut that shit out, bro. you're a ripper.
@maddercat

I tried this as well, I think you always need a tiny bit of expo, none just is super uncomfortable and jittery. My rates right now are set to 1.7 or so, .25, and .1 I think the lower you can go the better but never just 0. Sbang is more about the burst and style. You have to fly with total intention, think of your movements like you're creating a picturebook of photos, with tricks in between moving slo-mo snapshots. It's not really about rates at all, yeah lower expo will help cause you want the snap, but not so much it's jarring.

I make my rates linear then expo pitch and roll .30. I feel like it coordinates my turns better when the yaw initiates earlier in the stick input.
@badfourlife
@badfourlife 7 ай бұрын
You should try a feedforward off tune to feel the iterm more Start around 50i where it should feel loose and raise it up to where it feels a bit tight, some D on yaw can make it feel better as well Then you can turn rc smoothing off to get some latency back, theres 2 rc smoothing warnings to turn off as well, 1 in osd menu

There has to be a happy medium somewhere between full linear and some bit of sanity toward the center. As a 900 rate person myself I have considered cutting them in half to pickup up more precision and more linear ness, however the quad rotation is too slow 😂 can't win. I swear

When optimising a single variable, overshoot then come back. Is it possible to set a negative expo? Just for a single pack?
@MurdersFPV
@MurdersFPV 7 ай бұрын
It's getting there. It takes time to develop the precision with linear rates but if you stick with it, you'll see how it benefits all of your flying. The tune is huge too. All solid Sbang pilots are very good at tuning and their quads are super responsive. Any bobble or overshoot takes a lot away from the connection. High KV + 4.9" props goes a long way for responsiveness. It's not at all a requirement to do anything different with the gear of course. It's practice.

Think about wall tap, that you need just the right thurst so the quad stop right on the wall. Now imagine there is a wall behind any reversal you do, applying just enough thurst to counter your trajectory momentum, and thats the snap you are looking for

tried linear rates once and couldnt fly, with 900 max rate it was almost unflyable, just gar to twitchy around centre. for me that goes from smooth cinematic cruising to full on stick banging i like being able to seemesly go between the the 2 styles. combinstion of centre sensitivity and expo gives me all the smoothness i need while being able to go into sbang type stuff. ive gotten the sharp stops and starts without linear rates.

I run 1950d/s on r/p and lower expo than default bf expo at 600d/s rate, for me its much more controllable out at the stick ends for me. You keep saying "SPANG" with a P not B??? I have been calling this robotic flying since ~8 years ago kzbin.info/www/bejne/aofFdalpnZyif8k Same with racing on-road electric cars, I much prefer arc-point than expo, it puts a little smoothness around center and linear the rest of the way out.
I turned BF rates to max and learned something profound
