Thanks to all the people with more O3 experience giving tips for how I could have gotten better results! Although the O3 can't match the GoPro, it's definitely capable of better than I was able to get out of it. Please bear in mind that the decisions I made, such as not locking ISO on the O3, or using higher framerate on the O3, were driven by limitations in the capabilities and performance of the O3. If I had locked the O3 at lower ISO, some of the scenes would have been under-exposed. If I had used 30 fps on the O3, I wouldn't have been able to fly without crashing (this is not conjecture -- I tried it).

My 2 cents as a videographer regarding the bad O3 AU footage: I understand that you didn't feel comfortable flying with high latency but every camera (even my 4300$ one) has a giant loss of quality recording higher framerates which is especially bad at framerates above 60fps. As a result of the high framerate you needed higher ISO which is a bad idea on the O3, especially with internal denoising turned ON. The noise reduction then causes the "blur" that you've been talking about. Last but not least, both Gopro and O3 need a LOT of light which is why I wouldn't recommend shooting on a cloudy day. When the sun is out, the property feels more welcoming, warmer and the image has a lot more depth and contrast. There will also be much more light being reflected into the house as well which then again increases perceived image quality since we don't perceive quality per se but rather contrast.

Yeah, leaving shutter on auto is asking for trouble... while its nice and bright out, it doesnt matter much, but once you get into darker areas, shutter will jsut go down, and will cause much trouble with stabilization and introduce blurriness. Also - another problem with this review it that O3 was at 2.7k initially, and in addition, there was a ton of stabilization applied, so the image was zoomed in probably to even less than 1080p, thats like 4-5 times LESS resolution than Gopro. of course comparing it like that makes O3 look extensively worse. I would fly it at 4k 16:9 rather than 2.7k with 4:3, at least when stabilization applies, it wont degrade the resolution as bad. I think it was not a good choice to run it 2.7k. 4k 60p is very much flyable on the O3 system (expecially slow flying), and you get much better results than 2.7k in terms of video.

Thanks for your video. Lots of great stuff. You could have achieved better O3 results with a couple tweaks. I’ve spent a long time playing with O3 settings, and this is what you should have done differently, in my opinion: 1. Shoot 4k / 60 at 16:9. Yes, it’s a bummer not to be at 4:3, but I have found that having the extra resolution is better, even for gyro flow stabilization. I agree that 30fps is hard to fly, but 60fps is OK. 2. In the “secret” menu, mode should have been manual, and you should have locked shutter speed at 1/60 - 1/120 range, but kept ISO auto. O3 tends to pick too high of a shutter speed, and as a result higher ISO than it needs to. 3. Under Advanced, you should have changed noise reduction to -2 to retain more detail. In summary, this is what I’ve found to be the best O3 settings: 4k 60fps, EIS off, Wide, 1/60-1/120 shutter speed, Auto ISO (ideally staying 100-800), D-Cinelike color to get 10-bit, locked white balance, Sharpness -2, Denoising -2. Stabilization: Gyroflow using 0.25 smoothness and dynamic zooming speed of 4 seconds.

This. I've come to pretty much the same settings after many video edits. Auto ISO, manual WB and SS. Indoors I sometimes use 30fps if the light is very low (AND if I've flown my path a few times to practice it (at 60fps so I can see better)). Can't say much about the GoPro since I haven't used one since gen4.

The DJI O3 has very crunchy blacks. But there's is tons of detail if you are able to pull it out in post production. (DaVinci Resolve resolve HDR tools) However I wouldn't shoot 2.7k. 4k 16:9 gyroflow can stabilize without much zooming or loss of quality. ISO 800 is the absolute max you should use. Higher ISO caused the blurry mess. GoPro is still a better quality but the O3 can do much better.

Great video josh! I have to say though as somebody who has done quite a few real estate fly throughs and just a lot of commercial work with GoPros over the past 5 years I absolutely would not recommend setting your shutter to auto and using 30 FPS. If it's ever in a scenario where it drops down to 1/30 shutter you can get som really weird blurriness. Personally I lock my shutter at 180° and bump my max iso up to 800 in a situation like this. I totally understand wanted to keep your ISO as low as possible but from somebody who has learned the hard way about the potential blurry frames at 1/30 shutter I just thought it'd be good to share.

All the changes I made were caused by having to work around limitations of the O3. As an RE photographer and FPV pilot, I've considered doing fly-throughs, but I think it is only appropriate with high end homes or homes with sweeping views of the landscape. Very interesting see you dip your toes in my world Joshua! Color-grading homes with a rainbow of color temps inside is a huge issue, even when using a fullframe camera. Preferably its a sunny day and a home with enough windows to allow a lot of natural light in, in which case the home is shot with no interior lighting. Iphones for all their faults, are actually decent dealing with shifting color temperatures. A cine-drone with an auto leveling iphone-like camera attached would be the dream. Also, always shoot on a sunny day for better light, color and contrast!

I don't own any O3s yet, so I'll just comment about the flying itself based on my xp doing commercial work. I understand the point of the video was to also show this particular quad, but 3.5" is a LOT harder indoors than 2.5" on throttle control. You can tame it down with thr expo so you dont bounce up and down so much , which to me is what makes your final footage look a bit weird. Also 3.5" pushes a lot more air, so when you are down low or in a narrow corridor it'll move your quad around quite a bit since all the air surrounding it is turbulent making it hard to fly smooth. And I would've def turned those ceiling fans OFF before flying! 😅 4s 2.5" + Naked gopro is the best combo in real estate IMO. Grat video as always! Cheers from Argentina! 🤗

The bones is now selling for $249 and you can get crash protection. It also will take 5 to 27 volt input so it readily works with my 4s batteries. An alternative to fly throughts for real estated is to use a full frame camera on a gimble if you really want more flexibility in post.
@joelmulder4 ай бұрын
The “blur” you’re seeing on the O3 is due to compression artifacts (macro locking). The O3 Air Unit can only compress so many bits, and when you crank up the framerate, because you need to endure more information per second, there will be less bandwidth left over for the image itself, so it will get compressed more, so you’ll see more compression artifacts. You’ll get this on any camera if you go up high enough on the framerate, even on extremely expensive cinema cameras. You’d get significantly better image quality with the O3 in 4K 30, although it’ll never be as good as the GoPro of course.

I know it has the same sensor as my dji action camera anyway my point is add a port to the vtx where you can add a second camera then take the small O3 camera and put one on top of the drone. It’s small light and you only need the one vtx on the quad or hell take analog off put the chip to record on the flight controller. So many ways to do this we just don’t.

The cable that comes with the naked GoPro is exactly what I need for my Remote ID module. It also has the BEC built in but the cable it comes with is awful. Have been searching Amazon for balance connectors but can’t find the correct one.

I lost the battery door for my hero 8 so I've been flying my o3 5 inch quad without a Gopro. This is also my first 6s quad, so I'm sure this is a combination of 6s and less weight because of no Gopro, but I'm getting 5 to 6 minutes of freestyle flying in a 1300 6s and 6 to 7 and a half minutes with a 1550 6s. I built a cinelog and it flies like shit. I need to find someone that can tune it for me. Or if someone would add a cinelog preset on Betaflight.

Should I consider getting ELRS system setup for Cinewoops?

Are you flying with air mode or angle mode on? Did you tweak the quad PID's?

Joshua, can you share the tuning for this indoor flight?? please 🙏🏻 I have the same drone but I feel it's too powerful and I'm not familiar with tuning.

hey should I get the Nazgul Evoque f6x 6S analogue because your links to the first one disappeared

You let the o3 trash its own image with the iso. If you prioritise lower shutter speed over higher iso you will get much better footage here. But then flying would be at 30fps.

Best advice is to not wait. Building clients takes time and the sooner you start the sooner you’ll see results!

Oof, I used to be in the camp that the O3 looked good enough, but in this footage it was pretty bad. There was a hallway shot that led into the garage that just looked awful with all the low light speckling even though there was a fair amount of light.

Any fresh updates on the advice, plus the new O4 stuff from DJI Avata 2?
@DavidReynolds-kr6yh Жыл бұрын
DJI AVATA IS probably the best for doing a fly through of a house, the only problem is getting the card out to download the video. One of the cures is the master airscrew 3 blade props, it gives some more wriggle room for taking out and putting in the memory card.

The avata has the 03 camera on it though, and the quality as we saw in this video is just not the same

Not true, the camera isn't the same. Uses the same filter mount though.

I did not know so much about the o3, and before this video i was really thinking that that o3 camera could be a game changer. Thanks a lot. About gyroflow, did you apply any altitude stabilization? you raw video seems to be so shaky compared to output one, thanks in advice

If you had shot at 24FPS and then edited at 30 FPS, you could have sped up so the frames matched the project frame rate. Setting the project to 24 and shooting at 30 may also have created some percentage options that would have line up better. Final Cut Pro has an option to adjust the seed so the frames match, you can then use this speed as a reference to figure out what frame rates work the best. If you used a combination that resulted in 60% resulted in the clip frames matching the project frames, 120% would also work well.

My arris x220 has flown great for 2 months I’ve gotta so good a flying acro and have learned a ton from you josh thanks so much for all your hard work. I just replaced my whole frame for the second time on my x220 and it was flying great but all of a sudden it started dripping out of the sky and It happens everytime I drop the throttle to idle I can’t find a video explaining what it could be I tried turned my idle up to 8% but it still drops out of the sky as soon as I drop my throttle all the way to idle

@JB thanks for another very informative video. As you say, it appears some other people have achieved better results with the o3. I’ve got one on a Pavo Pico, which I haven’t got round to setting up yet, but I’m hopeful I can get professional-like results with it 😊

Lots of unwanted artifacts with the 03's grade for sure. Imo, the 03 just can't hang in comparison as most of us already know. Not that it isn't great or good, I do think it is impressive and if you do t have a gopro, it might do for certain things. Professional work though? I don't think so.

Yeah I tested the O3 for just one fly through shoot and... it just didn't work out... Not the results I'm looking for. Gopro all the way. :D The stuff I've seen coming out of the Avata is pretty decent though... Anybody know why?

Very true. I’m shitty at colour grading but I do find it waaay easier to do it with a GoPro clip than an O3.. 😅😂
