Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh, a few hours ago THIS morning I asked the Lord if it's OK for me to pray to our blessed mother, Mary and I asked him to speak to me and let me know if it is good to continue to pray the Rosary and would it be fruitful. THIS IS CRAZY AND AWESOME!!! On the channel information it says that this was posted eleven hours ago but it just showed up in my newsfeed at almost twelve thirty eastern standard time.

Of course! Read Revelation 5:8 and 8:4. When we pray "directly to God" our prayers do not GO directly to God. Heaven is not like earth in all respects. God created the angels as messengers and they carry our prayers to His Throne. It's ALL biblical.

When Our Lady appeared to the three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal in 1917, she urged them to pray the rosary every day. The rosary is a devotion in honor of the Virgin Mary. Since the "Hail Mary" is a prayer to Mary and at the center of the devotion, it would seem her appeal to the children would make little sense if she could not hear them (or us). I realize that Jimmy constructed his answer to fit a Protestant worldview and they deny the recognized Marian appearances, but this was the first thought that came to my mind. Thank you for everything Jimmy, I love your channel! 😇

She did not really appear to anyone! The real Mary does not appear! Apparitions are false wonders by Satan - to lead people astray- so no wonder “she” encouraged the children to pray the rosary to “her” !!! All part of the deception and lie that Rome teaches! The Bible speaks of false wonders happening in the end times to delude people and we have been in the end times since Jesus ascended into heaven! Revelation speaks if them too!

Sadly, JW’s precarious position is that, anything Catholics believe just has to be wrong. Therefore JW feels no need to bother providing evidence when arguing against Catholics. Just sad, really. Like Jews, Catholics believe we can pray to 'the dead' as in Saints, but that Mary has a special status exceeding the Saints, since she was chosen to be the vessel of God. My choir prays to Saint Gregory to "pray for us" - that is for Pope/Saint Gregory to beseech The Lord Jesus on our behalf. The Ave Maria/Hail Mary asks Mary to 'pray for us sinners.' So we appeal to Mary to pray to Christ for us.

Protestants also wonder WHY they should ask Mary to pray for them. Consider the plead made to Mary at the Wedding at Cana...to have Jesus help with the wine. Clearly this request was not something Jesus was excited or happily ready to do, but Jesus knows to honor thy Mother and Father, and so grants his Mother's request. If the wine at Cana isn't a stellar reason to ask Mary for her intercession I don't know what is!

Hi, Jimmy! Hope you and everyone here had a light-filled peaceful joyful blessed very Merry Last Day of Christmas January 12th, The Baptism of the Lord. Prayed for you at Mass yesterday and today in my daily Rosary. One of my favorite Bible verses bringing to mind the dignity of life- When Mother Mary was pregnant with Jesus, she went on an about eighty mile joyous journey to visit her cousin Saint Elizabeth (patron saint of expectant mothers and pregnant women) in her hour of need, Elizabeth said referencing her tiny child in her womb John the Baptist who was conceived when she was in old age: Luke 1:41-45 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.” God bless you!

Just a little push back. 1. If you believe that Mary (or other Saints) can hear our prayers then it is up to you to show that they can. It is not up to me, or anyone else, to show they can't. You can't prove when "nothing" happens because "nothing" leaves no evidence. The questions is not "Where do the scriptures tell us she can't hear our prayers?" The question is "Where do the scriptures tell us that she can hear our prayers?". Mr. Akin didn't answer that question. 2. Just because the saints in heaven may (or may not) have general knowledge of happenings on earth that still doesn't mean they can hear specific conversations or request. For instance, the Saints may know about the war in Ukraine but that doesn't mean they can hear the conversations/prayers of every soldier fighting in the war. 3. As for Rev 5:8 "And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints." How do you know that the saints are the saint in heaven and not the saints on earth? If the Saints in heaven are already in the presence of God then why does their prayers need to be put in a bowl of incense? It makes more sense to believe the "Bowl of incense, which are the prayers of the saints" are prayers from the saints on earth. There is also no mention or indication that just anyone in heaven can hear/understand the prayers. As a matter of fact, if you read on and get to Chapter 8 we see an angel presenting the prayers of the saints on the golden alter before the throne and "the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel" Rev 8:2-4 This seems to indicate that the prayers remained in the bowl of incense until they are presented to God on the golden alter. That would preclude the prayers being heard and understood by those in heaven, either Saint or Angel, at least until they are presented to God. But even If the "prayers of the saints" are the saints in Heaven then how do you know they are praying for request received from saints on earth and not prayers of worship and adoration (which fits the context of the passage) or prayers about the general knowledge of things they are aware of on earth (like the war in Ukraine)? 4. Just because Mary may be aware that people on earth are asking for her intersession that doesn't mean that she can hear those prayers. We also don't know her reaction to that knowledge. While I agree with Mr. Akin that if she is aware that there are people on the earth praying for her that her heart will go out to those in need. But she may also be grieved (if it is possible to grieve in heaven) because she wants those on earth to go boldly to the source of all Love, Mercy and Grace instead of trying to go through her. I personally believe Mary would want every one of us to seek after Christ with all our heart, soul, and mind. And if she could talk to us she would tell us to "Cast all our cares upon Him" (1 Peter 5:7). Not put some cares on her and others on "Patron Saints". 5. Just because God can do something doesn't mean he has done it. Yes, God could supernaturally allow Mary and the Saints to hear us when we talk to them. That doesn't mean He does. Considering that their is no instruction or example in the Scriptures to ask Mary and the Saints in heaven to intercede for us when we ask them, no information that they can hear or specific request or conversations, and the inclusion of instruction to pray to "our Father" and the knowledge that we "can confidently come to the throne of grace" (Heb 4:16)... all add up to a healthy skepticism about the Catholic doctrine and practice of "praying to the saints".

As you said, Jimmy’s arguments sounded plausible but in the end none were evidence, but 100% were speculative. He argues that his sources IMPLY that Mary hears our prayers (didn’t prove what she does with that either). The same argument can be made from an influence from Greek/Roman Gods. It seems equally plausible that the whole idea of patron saints was influenced by pagan religions of praying to their preferred gods for their particular circumstances In order to appease God to answer their prayers. In the end it would be equally speculative with equal amount of “evidence” An interesting case study would be on How much of the prayers to the patron saints are prayers for Gods name to be hallowed and for his kingdom to come and his will to be done? Aren’t most prayers to patron saints prayers for healing or other worldly appeasement or success? Sure even if prayers for health and wealth are heard by God, it shows the heart behind wanting to pray to the saints: wring Gods arm through a saint so that they can get something that God wouldn’t normally give.
@chucklingchurros
@chucklingchurros 4 сағат бұрын
What I’m trying to say is that the theology of prayer seems to be just asking for things they need rather than the things of God. Jesus says in John 15 that if we abide in him and we’re in him, we can ask whatever we wish and it will be given to us. When we abide in him, our desires are his desires, like the first lines of the Lord’s Prayer and how they are the back drop of everything else that follows. If this is what prayers should be (not my will but your will be done), where’s the need for patron saints? Jesus Already promised that he will answer everything we ask. Why do we feel the need for patron saints? Because it feels like to some that he’s not giving them what they want? But that’s not because Jesus is stingy, it’s because they ask with the wrong desires as the Bible says. In summary, Jesus already promises that he will give the desires of our hearts. Then why do we need to ask others? Because we do not receive due to our hearts being evil.

Excellent, Jimmy. 1. James White's post as White Beard denying Mary can hear our prayers is characteristic of his belief that no human being in heaven can hear our prayers, but only God alone. But since Dr. White is a Calvinist who places a strong emphasis on God's sovereignty, then might that omnipotence also include His divine generosity in permitting human beings in heaven to hear our prayers, so that they can participate with Him in building up the Body of Christ which is Jesus Christ's church? 2. Just as there are numerous examples in the Old and New Testaments of angels communicating with human beings on earth, we also have Matthew 27:50-53 (KJV): 50Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; 52And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. 3. There you are, Dr. White: If these risen bodies of once dead saints appeared to many after Jesus' resurrection, then isn't it likely that they spoke with those they encountered in Jerusalem? And therefore God permitted communication between these heavenly saints and earthly saints? 4. And if the King James Bible was good enough for St. Matthew ...

What the Protestant mind and heart simply cannot grasp, is the profoundly familial nature of the mystical body of Christ. The church is not merely a collection of people who believe a set of theological truths in intellectual union with each other…instead, it is a familial theandric organism, in which no part is cutoff or unnecessary in any respect whatsoever and forever.

Even if don't believe that Mary can hear every prayer at the same time, the idea that she can't hear anyone at all is ridiculous. Is White suggesting there is a firewall all blocking communication between Heaven and Earth? That only God can hear humans praying? Even if we pretended that were true, God could give the Saints in Heaven some sort of daily update of everyone who's asking them to pray. And then the Saints could still make a perfect prayer for us, rather than our imperfect prayers. Okay, so would White then say that somehow Saints are not allowed to pray for us because people should pray directly to God? Does God penalize people for not praying directly to Him? There are more than 10,000 canonized Saints. I don't know when the modern process of canonization started in which we have to confirmed intercession through miracles; but whenever it started, that's a lot of miracles from invoking the Saints if God doesn't want us to use the Saints. I think the meat of the problem here is that White is so focused on Scripture alone, and zero tradition, that he doesn't think he's allowed to use logic. And, as Jimmy shows, even Scripture shows prayers being heard in Heaven.

We know the dead human souls can receive information because Jesus went to the souls in Hades and preached to them while He was dead in His body: 1 Peter 3:18-20: “For Christ also suffered for sins once for all time, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; in which He also went and made proclamation to the spirits in prison, who once were disobedient when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water.” 1 Peter 4:5-6: “but they will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as people, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God.”

Question: If God hears our prayers, why do the saints still need to present the prayers of God's people in Revelation 5:8? I also wonder what could be the prayer of the God's people presented by the saints. Does it include the prayers of the saints for themselves or just a prayer to conform to the image of Jesus? If saints are already in perfect union with God, they definitely don't need a prayer for themselves, right? Also, if Saints are considered righteous people, did they cease to stop praying to God, or are they just worshipping God in Heaven? Because if the souls of the martyrs, who are definitely considered saints in Revelation 6:9, are still seeking justice, which is a type of prayer, they are still aware of the whereabouts on Earth, right?

Friend, regarding your first question, it is a mystery why God teaches us to pray for each other, but a reasonable explanation is that intercessory prayer is an act of love, as Jimmy pointed out. Paul prayed earnestly for the saints, Eph 1:18 “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened”. Since those in heaven are more perfected in love, it is implied that they would express that love by praying for the saints still on earth. Consider whether it would make sense that Paul would stop his intercessory prayers for those in Ephesus once he died, while he assuredly would still be rejoicing in heaven when any lost sinner is found.

Hi Jimmy, I have a few questions as a Catuchumen (sorry, some questions do bleed into others). I've likely amended/ironed out in a clearer manner these questions, even changed them, since you've last read them- sometimes with the good clarifications of your viewers. 1) Did the Virgin Mary develop from glory to glory on Earth/after assumption, or was she 'maxed out' or 'fully scaled' as she is in Heaven?I.e. did she ever have to grow in virtue- or was she maximally brave, prudent, compassionate, etc. as she could be as a fully sanctified human? One rather technical Marian theological work I've read suggests Mary had to struggle between the mother's instinct/ prerogative to protect her Son and the braver quality of letting him commence/uphold his ministry -but wouldn't this struggle contradict Ineffable Deus where she is "abundant in all virtues"? I've seen it phrased elsewhere as a tension, particularly in light of "A prophet is not without honour except in his own town, among his relatives and his own home"(Mark 6:4) which would include Mary. Would this verse challenge Mary's perfect continuity of will with Jesus, given how tension is alluded to? Would Mary have partaken of the Eucharist and/or baptism? Beforehand editing, this was question was pose on the presumption that if she did she wasn't maximally graced, but I've since seen from a reply that this is fallacious. I now pose the question in curiosity, more than anything. Please appreciate these questions don't come from a place of polemic or the desire to lambast "gotcha" etc. From my perspective, I'm trying to stress-test the personal sinless aspect by suggesting that gradations of virtue from Earth to Heaven would possibly suggest personal sinlessness. I'm bringing it up like a student to a university master, not in denial but anticipation.

1) In Luke, Mary is greeted by Gabriel as κεχαριτωμένη, or kecharitōmenē. As a verb it means "To bestow grace". The tense of it in this usage is perfect principle passive, which suggests that the Angel Gabriel is addressing Mary as completely, sometime in the past and carrying on into the future, full of grace. The Church teaches this idea of "full of grace" as being that she truly is completely full of God's grace, now and ongoing, like that of someone fully sanctified and in heaven. 2) I applaud you diving in and asking questions, but as a Catuchumen, you might be getting a little too deep into the nuance. Don't read too much and try to answer all the questions immediately. You might confuse yourself, and sitting in the discomfort of not fully understanding may be a good thing. BUT, I don't mean to disuade you too much or offend. www.papalencyclicals.net/pius09/p9ineff.htm is where the term comes from. It's a long read, and certainly very difficult even for me, a cradle catholic that went to catholic schools and learned a lot of philosophy and theology. 3) As to whether she partook in baptism and the Eucharist, I don't know if there is a official opinion of the Church. What we can guess though, is no, she wouldn't have NEEDED to partake in either, as she was completely and forever full of God's Grace. That doesn't mean that she definitely didn't take part during the early Church years in order to take part in the Communion of the Body of Christ. Remember, the Eucharist (which is greek for thanksgiving) is sometimes referred to as "holy communion", because it is not just taking part in and giving thanks for the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, but also how we all join together as one in the body of Christ. I would imagine that Mary would have taken part as a sign of solidarity, if not for the saving grace provided. This last answer is all private conjecture though. A quick google search shows that other Catholics believe the same thing, that she MAY have taken part. Hopefully Jimmy can respond as well.

@holdintheaces7468 your generously expansive reply goes much appreciated; I know how long it can take before committing an answer on KZbin. For what it's worth, I've been deep in Marian study since December (perhaps fittingly enough). Nothing too extensive, only two theology books and a diet of Trent Horn, Jimmy Akin, and, occasionally, William Abrecht. The usual round-robin of Catholic KZbin, really. I have read Ineffable Deus, yes. I like to think I'm familiar with the avenues/usual apologetics for each Dogma, though sometimes I'm skeptical if typology is enough for Mary's personal sinlessness (I've no issue with her being free from Original sin, though). Sometimes I question if typology is enough, other times I begrudge the formalism. I know prepositional assent is only the shadow of belief, but, I suppose I'm trying to get the distinctives of Catholicism cleared up before Easter (which is generously late this year). I feel I have to be proactive by understanding the faith and controversial doctrines, especially where I live in a context where those close to me know Catholicism at a prepositional level at best. As a Christian, I sometimes veer excessively to the technical side rather than prayers. Coming from a non-Christian home, my family only see Catholicism/Christianity at the prepositional level, as though it's just one of many things in the world. My context requires me to have answers.

Full of grace is not the same as omniscient. Yes, as far as we know, she had/has to learn just like everyone else. The Church has been "flattering" Mary since the early centuries, going as far back as Justin Martyr (if one excludes the "flattery" in the New Testament). Sure, _some_ of the absolutizing language one comes across, even in papal docs, is akin to the hyperbolic language of lovers in love, but the solemnly professed dogmas of popes and councils are not. Jesus was baptized; does that mean He wasn't God? Jesus presumably ate the Eucharist at the Last Supper; does that mean He isn't God? That kind of logic doesn't make sense for Mary either. Sacraments are not merely utilitarian grace dispensers; they effect and deepen union. There is no logical necessity at all that Mary was not "full of grace" merely because she may have (likely) received the Eucharist or been baptized.

You've raised a good point in your comment, which I'm grateful for: Jesus likely did take the Eucharist, and, of course, baptism, which doesn't invalidate his perfection. I stand corrected. I'm aware 'full of grace' does not entail omniscience, but rather her exemption from Original sin, so no argument from me there.

Mary was born without original sin, a special grace from God for a Holy virgin who would be chosen by God to carry the body and divinity of the Saviour of the world Jesus Christ. As we know Mary accepted this message from God from the Angel Gabriel, and said, 'let it be done unto me according to thy word'. Mary didn't need baptism, as Mary was without sin, as we are all born with original sin, and do require baptism. Jesus also didn't need baptism, because he was God the Son, as well as a human being, Jesus was baptised as an example to us, showing us that it's important.

Is God in heaven? Can you grieve God? The only argument would be: if you can pray to God, why ask Mary to pray for you? From both the Old and New Testament we can deduce that the saints are not dead. You can look up the verses and context for yourself, there are quite a few. We can also deduce from the scriptures that God has a personal relationship with his children. Now, if God has a good relationship with His child, would He not hear their request? „Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.“

@@Gabagool4Christ While there is no direct Hebrew equivalent for "mesités," the concept of a mediator can be related to the role of a priest (כֹּהֵן, kohen) or an intercessor (פָּגַע, paga). And given the context of the passage I think it's an intercessor. Hebrews 4:16 (KJV) Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. What do you think?

If Mary can hear us why are you praying to her? I guess no matter what a Christian tells a Catholic they will always want their smaller deities or some angle to get to Jesus

Most butchered verse in all of scripture. You apparently are not a member of Christ's Body! "IF" you were, you would work together with Him in a synergistic manner. You are TRYING to do that now, right? NOTE: The Head does not ignore the body! I doubt you will listen, but here is wisdom from the Christian greats of antiquity: "All Catholics allow that the dignity and office of mediator in this sense belongs only to our Redeemer, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, made man to save us. The sense then of this place is, that as there is but one God, who created all, so there is but one mediator, who redeemed all. But yet the name of mediator is not so appropriated to Christ, >>> but that in an inferior and different sense the Angels and saints in heaven, and even men on earth, who pray to God for the salvation of others, may be called mediators, intercessors, or advocates; and we may apply ourselves to them to pray, intercede, and mediate for us, without any injury to Christ, since we acknowledge that all their intercession and mediation is always grounded on the merits of Christ, our Redeemer.

@po18guy-s4s Synergistic???? Are you kidding me? What you mean is that you condone what your Pope is preaching to the world right now...that ALL religions are equal in God's eyes and lead to God, right? THAT is pure blasphemy! John 14:6 says that I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the father but through me." For you to condemn ANY PART of the scriptures in favor of your man made doctrine is also blasphemy! As for praying to Mary.... I'm absolutely certain that Satan laughs with delight in knowing that you are praying to anyone other than Christ. It's one of his victories but you guys are brainwashed by your church and scared to death to question any part of what they demand from you. It's a form of spiritual bondage. You've been taught that Mary and the saints have to intercede because Jesus is not really concerned about you or is too busy to hear your prayers. Please tell me where it says that in the bible! You take glory away from Christ...the glory he earned on the cross...when you pray to anyone other than him. ..

@@JonasQuigly I AM A MEDIATOR. I am incorporated into the Body of Christ. A lesser mediator most assuredly, but mediator nevertheless. NOTE: the Head hears the Body. I don't know what religion you are, but theology runs deeper that you think. If you do not MEDIATE in union with Christ, as a living member of His Body, you should re-consider what you have been taught.
