Sadly we dont have an arena of our own down at our stables but i am lucky enough to go and hire a local one when i want to, so today we went up to school Willow to get him ready for some upcoming horse shows
Lewis jumped on board after i had finished my session, i really dont know where his confidence has suddenly come from but im all for it
Can my son ride my show horse better then me?
Don't forget to subscribe to @KarenBadrick1 to follow along with our journey

I have failed so many times over the years but always learnt something from it, I hope that my KZbin channel will be able to help teach you all the little bits that nobody seems to share and help progress you on your riding journey quicker than I did on mine.

Thank you so much 🥰 He done amazing on willow didn’t he ❤️ Gambler although safe as houses, is hard work to ride especially cantering, so we’ve decided to get Lewis a bit more confident with the riding side of things on willow as he knows his job, whilst I spend a bit more time trying to get gambler easier to ride x

It's so good to see the confidence in Lewis. It's looking like the beginnings of a good pair. I love willow's facial expressions my old section c used to do the same faces must be a welshy thing 😂

Lewis’s riding is coming on so well! Willow looks like he will teach him a lot and her’ll be able to transfer that to gambler. I wonder if you can talk a bit more about the band system you use. How do you put it on, how tight, how do you introduce it to them? Also i thought your description of top line and the flow of energy for them to be through and on the bit was very good and easy to understand.
@KarenBadrick1

Thank you so much, yes I’m hoping Lewis can learn it all on Willow as he’s easier to ride, then take that knowledge onto gambler. Yes I can definitely talk more about the band system, and how to use and introduce it to the horses, This will be easier to explain in a vlog then written down here Thank you so much xx

Hi Karen, hope all's good with you and your family. Anyway, it would really help you if you did a lot of long and low work every time before any collection, so lengthen your reins so Willow drops his head , stretching his neck down which in turn stretches his neck and back muscles, doing this more at the walk and then a a shorter time at trot. This is actually the only way you will create a very true topline, slow and steady and do the same when you are lunging him. It takes time, but it works well as is really the only way, same as athletes do it. You take care from Debby with rubber wall suggestion etc!
@KarenBadrick1
@KarenBadrick1 Ай бұрын
Hi debby Yes we do do a lot of long and low work before we start, I edit out most of the warm up work as otherwise the video would be far too long. Thank you for the tip about the rubber wall 😉 that has been done and will be in the vlog coming on Thursday x
@user-ne1uo1jm3q

Oh that's great, but perhaps you could show some of it for the people who don't know how, this would help them very much as it's the beginning that lays the foundations for the correct result, it may seem boring but as you know it's the only way, so showing just a little bit and explaining why you are doing it and for how long, will really help a lot of your viewers. So happy for you that you can do this full time after such a crappy year, enjoy yourself please and take care. Deb

@user-ne1uo1jm3q yes that’s definitely a video that I could do, just showing everything that I do do in a schooling session. we do spend a lot of time warming up but as it’s in walk Ive always edited it out, I’ve never thought about showing it untill you have mentioned it x

Looking good Karen. Trouble these days is that most Cs and Ds are overweight. Willow for a D is in nice not overly fat shape, but he's because he's lacking front end compared to the fatties. You're doing everything right building muscle to get his top line rather than just fat. Some I see at Royal Welsh are so unhealthy and jiggle... Keep doing what you're doing. ❤
@KarenBadrick1

@@KarenBadrick1 Yes, it's difficult to get a happy medium. Most welshie judges around me love that huge sausage shape with fat pad shoulders. Trouble is it covers their frame and you can't see how they are actually built. Its a case of damned if you do, damned if you don't. Aaah the subjectivity of showing eh.... X

Secret is 5 things xx walk to canter, leg yeilding haunches in counter bend, and large circles, to maintain flow, BOTH REINS. Is that your lovely son,,,,, great well done to him and you xx just dont let him grow much taller, or he will be up in tree, JOKE, Well done, pls dont EVER DOUBT YOURSELF. REMEMBER, IDIOTS judge, they are not riding in semi forest, and trying xx

He loves a walk to canter, trot walk trot also gets him working well and fired up 😂 Yes that’s my youngest son, he’s never really been interested in riding…..untill now He’s grown so much this winter We’re all different, we all train our horses differently but as long as we’re having fun and trying that’s all that matters xx

I haven't seen your channel before but know exactly what you are aiming for . your horse seems to be holding his tail to one side a lot . Is he stiff in his back at all. May i ask what show class he is entered for.
@KarenBadrick1
@KarenBadrick1 Ай бұрын
Yes he holds his tail to one side, he is regularly seen by the physio and saddle fitter and they both say there is no problem with him and it must just be how he was sat in his mum’s womb, We are off to a county show at the end of may but will be back out at royal international and horse of the year show qualifiers very soon

@@KarenBadrick1 We produce young chasers and show hunters. A nice excercise is using a snaffle or simple bit get the horse to drop and extend his neck whilst keeping up a very slow trot .using seat and lots of leg pressure at a sitting trot bring those hind legs right underneath.moving your fingers constantly to keep the bit moving and light contact. After a while its like sitting on top of a beach ball and the back muscles come up nicely. Maybe you know this already but it really works for us and I do hope you won't be offended by my mentioning it .

@pixie706 yes the aim is to get that bouncy ball feeling underneath us, creating all that energy that keeps going round in a circle, No I’m not offended at all, even if I know what is being spoke about there is others reading these comments that can also learn from them so I’m open for any suggestions to be spoken about
