I played off scratch and regularly shot under par. The key to getting from a 4 handicap down to scratch is to get good at a small number of shots. Trying for draws, fades, high and low shots on every other hole will lose you strokes. We are not pros, we don’t get 5 hours of practise everyday. Dial in one shape of shot off the tee. Dial in one good shape of iron shot. Use these everywhere unless you are forced to hit a different shape shot. Make tee to green as simple as possible. If you have to hit something low. Take extra club, use your normal swing but hit the ball softer. Let’s not get flash and try the Tiger stinger. :-) Lastly practise your putting and 100 yards and in the most. Can I just say that I love watching Ricks stuff. Golf as we all know it. Thins, blocks, pulls and the odd duff mix in well with the good stuff.

I am in no position to give any advice, but it does seem that Rick has recently been trying to do too much with every shot and is ultimately over complicating things.
@escos04102 жыл бұрын
I’m playing off 4 to 6 now, the key Iv learnt is to not over over complicated the game. It’s not often round the green I use a wedge it’s more 9/8/7 and 6 irons for chip and run shots doesn’t matter if it doesn’t look classy it’s the shots taken to get in the hole
@Golfzilla702 жыл бұрын
100% agree - I think if both of them were to go back and watch this vid, they’d be kicking themselves by playing curving shots so close to the trouble. Rick really needs to calm down on working every shot for sure. It looked like it was really unnecessary on this course
@deandunnachie7032 жыл бұрын
I’m sure even Morikawa said that he just learned to perfect a fade instead of trying to hit a few different shapes (I’m sure he could easily hit a draw if he needed).

I love Guy's swing, beautiful tempo, and fluid release. I am a strange 18 handicap. Occasionally breaking 80 and occasionally struggling to break 100. All my lost strokes come from OB/lost tee shots. As long as I get my tee-shot into play, I make par, a bogey if really comes bad, but regularly losing 9 balls per round. I think I need a shrink, not a pro. But neither my distances, nor my swing nor my short game looks anything like my friends who have 18 ish hcp. But my tee-shots scatter more than many 36 hcpers. 😂

@@AM-qw8zd I forgot to add, to make it even stranger, it's not the driver, I played a few rounds with only hybrid and irons, and I push and pull and hook a 7 iron into OB as often as my driver. The club doesnt seem to matter.Two of our par 3s are short 140 yarders and even there my success of avoiding water or OB or deep forest with a damn pitching wedge is often low. And it's not even shanks or so, clean contact but pushed, pulled, or hooked (slice i dont do ever, but pushes happen) to always juuuust hit the bad area. So my only conclusion is that its mystical teebox energy messing with me? (hence the shrink comment)

One of your best rounds. Your assessment that putting is holding you back a bit is spot on. You know from playing with Adam Scott, Westwood and your buddy James Robinson that good players almost never 3 Jack and every 20-30 footer looks like it’s got a chance. Really enjoy having Guy featured a bit more. You both have a humble self deprecating humor that shows respect for the game while still having fun. To be honest (and I’m American) I appreciate your demeanor and modesty much more than the “look how cool we are” personalities of the good good guys and many Americans in general. At my club, we are suffering through loud music on carts, hats backwards, and general narcissistic behavior. Appreciate the examples you set and hope the golf world follows it.
