For those who want to stay in Johor Bahru and commute to Singapore for work on a daily basis, you will need to apply for long term visa (MM2H) or spouse visa. Otherwise, you will be questioned by their nasty immigration officers as many of them are very against Singaporeans living in Johor Bahru. If you will get caught, they will put a remark on your passport to indicate that "there must be a lapse of 72 hours before you can return to Malaysia again". Their property agents will always boast to Singaporeans about the cheap houses in Johor Bahru, but what's the use when you cannot stay in them on a daily basis? Think carefully again before your commitment to a property in Johor Bahru.

I now have 4 Malaysian (JB) cars and no Malaysia visa. Just buy for cash. I have a Lexus 200CTh, 300GD G-Wagon, W124 260E, and a 4.7 V8 Landcruiser. Old cars are less likely to be stolen. Mine are 11 years to 40 years old! just leave two AirTags in each vehicle. We park our 5 cars and 1 motorbike in our condominium sheltered car park in JB.

As an employee in a Malaysian company in Malaysia, one can get a special permit issued by LTA. Check with LTA on conditions.

One thing I realize is that after a number of years, it is wise to overhaul your Malaysian car engine. Unlike in Singapore, when it reaches 10 years the car is scrapped and that's why one doesn't see any value in overhauling a Singapore car.

There are car rental services but this is typically for short term usage up to a few days or maybe months. If you intend to use the car for the long term, its cheaper to just buy.

like in all countries where one is not resident - no resident status, buying a house don't grant you that status, buying a car also don't - so as a foreigner you are governed differently. You need an IDP for driving in a foreign land - all is good when you can buy car and drive until you get into an accident, then you can be charge with no proper driving permit, illegally "over staying" your social visit visa, stay more than so many days in a year, and God knows what the Polis and Mahkamah can throw at you. Malaysia Boleh one - boleh change rule as they please and as a Singaporean .... well a bit hard to get off the hook lah.

I guess to buy a car in Malaysia is not an uphill task for many Singaporean, the question would be is it worth the time to commute between the border, pay season ticket and park most of times, vehicle maintenance cost despite not driving regularly,, road tax & insurance , off course a possible risk of car being stolen and or vandalism? Think twice before decide to own a car in Malaysia, unless perhaps you have a weekend house at JB

One of my Singaporean relatives was a Director in a Malaysian company 15 years ago. He said that the company bought a Malaysian car as a company car and because of this plus my relative's directorship, he was legally allowed to drive it within Singapore. He said this was allowed by LTA albeit special permit provided by LTA. have you heard of such situations before? and if yes, does this still exist?

If you can afford, buy R&F is better in longer run. Country Garden is cheaper because further away from RTS and developer has a bigger risk although completed, may have other future complications

There are two hard facts that must be accepted by si Singaporean. Cars is expensive in Singapore, especially with COE. Land is expensive. Two things that might be impossible for common Singaporean to buy.

those are Malaysian cars are driven by Malaysians, not by Singaporeans. Foreign carplates in Singapore have to pay $25 per day of entry in Singapore (but enjoy free 20 days a year for tourists)

Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents (especially those Malaysians who are SPRs) are not allowed to drive foreign registered vehicles in Singapore. The Singapore Government is not stupid, otherwise no more COE is required when everyone will go and buy their cars in JB and bring them back to drive in Singapore.

All foreign-registered vehicles here must pay VEP fees of $4 per day for motorcycles and $35 per day for cars. Each VEP is valid for 14 days from the date of entry into Singapore. Foreign-registered vehicles are also granted 10 VEP-free days per year.@@AlphaMarketingSG

Both Singapore and Malaysian cars can drive in to Thailand. If your vehicle's insurance is not covered in Thailand, you will have to buy a 7-day short term insurance at Bukit Kayu Hitam, shortly before the Malaysian/Thai border. There are many kiosks there to do this.
