(EP. 107) CAN SPACE STRENGTHEN YOUR RELATIONSHIP? (EP. 107)
It is common for couples to spend most of their time together, but it is also essential to have healthy space in a relationship.
What is healthy space? It is the time and distance that allow individuals in a relationship to maintain their own identity and interests. It means having some alone time to recharge and pursue personal interests without feeling guilty.
On the other hand, unhealthy space refers to being emotionally distant from your partner, avoiding communication, or neglecting the relationship. This can lead to feelings of insecurity and resentment.
So, how can you get space from your partner without leaving? It's essential to have open and honest communication. Let your partner know that you need some time for yourself, and assure them that it has nothing to do with them. Set boundaries and stick to them. This will help create a balance in the relationship.
Space is not a sign of a failing relationship but like everything in a relationship it should thoroughly be communicated through.

This conversation was so rich, and I love that it was still so light-hearted. The best part is that you all made masculinity generous, protected, and still very sexy. I haven't heard men talk about fighting for relationships in this "Kevin Samuels" society. Omar's acknowledgement of his wife's being vulnerable on the road had covering on it. Duke is a different type of dude, which says so much about my IG BF, Chanel. "What, you need me to move some furniture? I'm very organized." The vulnerability was on high volume in this episode and it was very sexy and safe. Jalon took the cake, consistently holding space for those who might have needed space due to safety and naming the exception of violence. Outside of the aforementioned, "needing space is childish"...😐... (Face in the camera) Our community benefits from men like you, all. Thank you for doing your own work! Thank you for being committed to setting a better standard. Cheers to the kings, their queens and their empires.🥃🥃🥃 #thereishope

Duke said it best! You as the man can’t create the space (wanting the relationship) and then turn around and say you need space! 👌🏾

Duke hit it on the head with that story. Omar always speaks from that space and has which is part of what drew me to the podcast, being transparent as a black man living a healthy lifestyle is rare to see online. We need more podcasts like this. Life is a sport and we need the right coaches, players, & environment to cultivate the right mentality, skills, & ethics to feel success not just look successful.

Space can just mean time to be on your own, with limited contact, to sort through thoughts and feelings to help determine how, or if, to continue forward. It can be hard to do that when you're constantly around the other person. It doesn't have to mean that it's a (soft) breakup that allows for each person to see others. In fact, that would be one stipulation I'd set in taking the space. I'd be clear that this isn't for that, and that's not allowed. If either partner wants to take that time to do that, then the relationship is over and it just needs to be a clean break, in my opinion.

I remember recently I was mad at my guy for something while he was at work. I let him know we needed to talk so he didn’t feel bombarded once he got home. Long story short we were able to talk it out in a respectful manner because we are both hell bent on not going to bed upset with one another.

healthy space is fine. I need space generally to clear my mind or get my thoughts together. Like chill outside and get some fresh air or go make a store run. Another great episode.

I asked for space, because she was smothering me and I told her that. Even asked her if she had her own set of friends just cause I feel you shouldn’t need to be around me that much

I had a thought🧠 I think that we are sometimes so desperate to fit into each others lives. Like oh duke goes to the gym? Lemme workout with him. Why? Why not let that be his space and you go by yourself. I think it stems from attachment and lack of contentment with yourself. If we force our way into those situations it almost puts pressure where pressure shouldn’t be applied. Then it can create room for needing space. If you get what I’m sayin lol drop a glass🥃

I think creating intentional space (day here and there/weekend away) is a way to keep the relationship alive vs. in a rut, especially since men get bored easily. But to me, if a man says I need space, it's over, he isn't in love/he isn't coming back.

Jalon always tells people they be wrong 😂😂 accountability is always needed. They all made a great point about “doing men shit”. I have been watching from the beginning and you can see the maturity which I’m very happy to see growth. We have seen so many podcasts fall apart so to be present today and see this I share my gratitude to have representation like you guys be so consistent in modeling what growth looks like authentically.

Yeah, D Wade & Gabby has a “space” baby and she still stayed in the relationship and was looked upon like she was foolish for staying afterwards. Space ~ gives a man excuse to hit the sheets with others for those who are not duly invested. Personally, I would t want to be with anyone if we had to take space apart because I don’t want o handle what could have possibly happened when the space occurred.
