I own a ARRI Alexa Mini and currently also an C500m2. Lighting is key and so is filtration. What lenses to use and how to setup a scene no matter the camera! I find these debates a bit silly but then again what Canon delivers for a competitive price is astonishing. However, there is a reason why Arri remains the standard in the industry. That doesn't mean you have to invest in Arri. Canon and their color science, and their autofocus to name a few, is worth the competitive price they ask for! If you are in the market for such then you can't go wrong with the C500m2!

@@carlosq00 There is no way, Canon 500mk2 with its Raw light has the same codec and datarate per pixel of c200 and its color science can not compete with any Arri. Also an old Alexa classic is far cinematic and superior in grading.

abcd spoken like someone who understood nothing from this video and the comments here. Any DP worth his salt can work wonders with almost any camera. Absolutely wonderful feature films have been shot with cameras less capable than the c500 mk2. Go back to school.

@@zfarahx Where we talking about cameras?!?! I don't want to talk about DP or lights but about cameras, their codec and capability in post to grade. Hollywood doesn't use documentary cameras like C500mk2. This camera has higher resolution, bigger sensor but the same bitrate per pixel of a c200 because Canon has to protect its hi end market of C700 that cost 4 time more. My now 10 years old Arri Alexa EV still destroy this in colors science! Go back to school!

Thanks for sharing. I’m in the market for a c500 or Amira (shoot documentary) and can’t make up my mind, but the ff sensor, stabilization, autofocus seems to be a no brainer. I’d be curious to get your feedback on which would be best.

It is really impressive the formula Canon has stuck with the C500 Mark II. I am however following your videos on this camera Carlos to try and get more of a sense of what might be expected out of the C300 Mark III which is not full-frame 6K, but will be offering very enticing advantages over the C500 Mark II with expanded DR from DGO tech. Scheduled to make a film aimed at hopefully being sold to Netflix or Amazon later this year...how critical do you think it is to have an above 4K capable camera to hit their standards for purchase/licensing? Keeping in mind that realistically, there will a fair share of 25% punch ins in post recomping and/or using some of Electronic Image Stabilization at times when filming which will add some crop. Thinking about selling my older RED EPIC X DRAGON and switching to Canon but a bit scared to loose the 6K for the film. APPRECIATE THE VIDEO MAN!

The C500MKII really creates a pleasing look in your video. Well done😊 Of course, the KZbin Color Banding makes it look less good, but I can imagine how it would look in reality. Would be happy if you could compare the C500MKII RAW files to the C200 RAW files if you have the possibility. Especially in color and dynamic range. Btw... Just downloaded the latest Canon LUTS from 201911. The Cinema Gamut Clog2 to WideDR 709 looks now way better in my opinion. Didn't like it before, but now its looks better in terms of colors and contrast. But I also like the ARRI 709 LUT. Use it most of the time, if I need a quick great looking REC709 conversion with neutral colors. Keep up the good work👍🙌

Thanks for doing this , really helps us the viewers. A lot of us watch these videos prior to buying gear because we want to be sure that we are spending our money wisely. We ask people like you that have access to the gear to please make comparaison videos so that we get an idea of what each camera is offering, not because we want to be a troll or that we are fan boys of another brand. I think that many would love to see you (out of all people 😂) compare the C500mkii to the FX9. DR , colors , low light, unbiased comparison of the footage not the specs !!! And so yo know I am looking at those 2 cameras but and neither is perfect , I am also looking at S1H. I believe the C500mkii has the best form factor, looks the coolest, tap to focus a dream, false color built in 👍🏽, the FX9 has better Dynamic range and colors (check out Austin Black’s review), plus electronic ND is amazing, S1H will help me get stories like the 2 others never will because it will live in my backpack and go with me everywhere, that alone is huge for me as I am focused on documenting things that are in my everyday life , i live in haiti , Crazy shit happen everyday still 10bit 422 400mbs full V-log . Please help me chose the C500mkii convince us that it has better image quality than FX9. So far the S1H has one my heart, but I feel like it does not make the most sens for business , which is Run and gun Documentary films.

Dear Carlos. Having experience with the c70, would you still say this camera is good for someone like me who shoots run n gun, solo operator, SOME content production. I know the price is high with the c500 but I come from a c200 and I am looking to step up the quality of what I’m doing. Looking at the c70 it seems as if it could work as a mini c500 with the 0.71 adapter in use. Best wishes from Denmark.

Argh bad explanation! My question; would you go with the c500 or the c70 if price is no object.
@carlosq003 жыл бұрын
basically you can't go wrong with either. If you need SDI you have to go with the C500 Mark II. If you need RAW you have to go with the C500 Mark II. Image quality, performance, convenience they are neck to neck. The RF mount gives you more options without adding a lot of expense. That's a tough call.

Firstly great content keep it up! We Shoot 95% of our projects on the ARRI Alexa xt / mini @carlosQuintero but the statement made that the alexa needs a lot of light is simply not true. The Arri raw open gate image in low light performance is remarkable and the negative can be pushed and pulled several stops, just as much as the cannon if not more. one thing though Arri and cannon match really easily in post. Canon's raw image is still a little thing and still has some way to go before they reach the depth of an Arri raw image.
@shzammpatapon98654 жыл бұрын
no, i personally think that what he said is right. like you, we're being blessed to shot with arri camera as well. and arri has nowhere near the capabilities and i pretty much agrees that arri need more light. but what kept me using red and arri is that canon raw is still so freaking hard to edit. wish they just do partnership with blackmagic raw since we know red won't let them touch their stuff.

Only being able to use one output at once is a huge problem in my opinion, and no reviewers seem to want to talk about that. You cannot use a 3rd party EVF or LCD AND be plugged up to a director’s monitor. You can’t use the 2 SDI ports on the C500 II at once or the HDMI if you’re using the SDI for say a SmallHD monitor. This is a big issue. It’s a pro camera and you should be able to plug up a Teradek or a wired feed to a client monitor (aka video village) while also using a 3rd party EVF or LCD. Canon needs to fix this.
@barrygriffin56094 жыл бұрын
FYI you can use the monitor SDI out put and the 12GSDI or HDMI output at the same time. You cannot use the 12G SDI or HDMI output at the same time. This allows you to have 3 outputs at any one time. Video, Monitor and either 12G or HDMI.

5:48 looks perfect to me in terms of color. Great tonality and separation. Looks very much like what ARRI (and RED and Varicam) actually does. Your own grading lowers the highlights but colors aren't right anymore, reds are too warm and way too bright and so are blues, also yellows are too bright as well.. Would use the Canon Lut as a base tbh and pull down highlights. So basically dynamic range and actually color science comparable to the big players, that's great news!
