Can The Duck Lure Catch A Spillway BEAST?

Fishing the duck lure for ferocious river monsters! On this trip my friend ‪@JaggedToothTackle‬ and I fish a spillway for pike and muskie and hook into some smallmouth bass as well!

When you hooked that musky I saw you pull him towards the shore I’m like “nooo don’t beach him by the rocks” and you said you were going to the net and I was relieved and then I saw the little tiny net and I’m like “nooo” and you kicked it away and got the big net. Great handling, great speedy release, no 5 minute bump board, this is why this is my favorite fishing account

Up here in the Midwest we got tons of lakes from the glaciers retreating at the end of the last ice age, so fishermen are spread out we have great fishing everywhere

I just bought one. I sent my uncle the video of the duck lure and he bought one too. Where fishing the Ausable River soon, I'll tell you how we do. There is a whole lake by us there as well and it's only 4 feet deep with only a couple spots 5 and 6 feet. The whole lake is top water, I believe it's Tawas lake. We got 2 bass and 3 pike last time, but this time it's on lol....

Really neat to see that spotted muskie. Muskie are probably one of the most varied in appearance of all fish. I fish very stained/brown water rivers in western Wisconsin and the muskie here are all "clear" or non-patterned on their sides. I suppose this river may have much clearer water based on the appearance of the fish. I have read that muskie who reside in clear water tend to have more distinct patterning.

These muskie were all stocked 8-9 years ago now. Most of them have that spotted appearance coming from the same hatchery but they did put a few tiger muskie in there as well.

This spot gets hit pretty hard, I just kept a close eye on the stream gauge and went out right after the spring flood receded making it was fishable again. A few days later word was out and it was packed. They removed all the muskie below the dam last summer though, there's still a few that were roaming around downstream but I don't know if the muskie fishing will ever be quite like it was for a few years there.

I bet if you tried the “Whopper-Plopper 75” with the perch colors, it might have worked better for both Muskie & Pike. Or maybe, a Perch colored shallow diving swim bait. Sometimes Pike and Muskie can prefer feeding underwater, rather than top water, but you obviously know that, just a thought. Great video as usual. 👍👍👍🤟🤟🤟

Hey man, love watching your videos, you got me into baitcasting reels. I have a question about line size. My reel says its 4 - 7kg (8 - 15 lbs) But everyone says always put 30lb braid. Isnt this to thick for the reel? I struggle to cast it a decent distance. Thanks for the videos, keep em up!

I’m guessing that line range is for mono, braid is much thinner diameter so you can get away with heavier line. 30lb braid is equivalent in diameter to something like 6lb mono. I use 30lb or heavier for my rods I use for fishing thick weeds and heavy lures. I’ll use 15lb with a fluoro leader for my finesse setup. Braid is unforgiving and has almost zero stretch so it’s best to go heavy, I’ve broke 20lb braid on a hook set before.

That looks like such a good spot. Anywhere you can catch muskie and pike from shore is a good spot. You should try a lunkerhunt prop frog it's basically like that duck just a frog I've been slaying them on it last few days 👊

I tried one of the prop frogs on largemouth yesterday but they weren’t going for topwater. There were a few just going on beds, crazy they’re about a month behind.
