the country should countinue the build build project and work on infrastructures that connects the island nation seamlessly. Until then the progress will be limited to the capital. In addition, they should prioritize pedestrians in the capital city and start building more rail lines and bus routes. The traffic is a huge hindrance for it's development. A couple of hours in the road could have done so much already in a workforce. Remote working has been proven to alleviate this however that PEZA rule is again is driving people to get in to roads.

The Philippines and Singapore are two very different countries with different histories, economies, and political systems. While it's difficult to predict the future, it's important to note that reaching the development level of another country involves a complex interplay of factors including economic policies, governance, education, infrastructure, and more. Why the Philippines can never reach Singapore-like economic status: 1) The economic restrictions in the Philippine constitution that prevent foreigners from investing more heavily into its economy, prevent it from stronger economic growth, 2) Bickering between the two chambers of legislation in the Philippines on HOW to change the constitution due to the aforementioned restrictions as it is now a growing issue, 3) Lack of much-needed manufacturing and infrastructure. ... Philippines was economically richer than Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, and China back in the day, all of which were 3rd world countries. They are just lucky to have an effective govt with less corruption and are not constantly hit with calamities so they were able to rise up dramatically. It's not impossible Philippines can surpass them again if only Filipinos are more united and share a common goal, of course with less corrupt politicians who are effective and unselfish. Ph should be able to move forward and rise up again. Your negative thinking and attitude is part of the problem.
@Spy-hp8ki5 ай бұрын
@@fkoff7649 Putting natural calamities aside, still, the Philippines can never achieve Singapore-like status. Again, why? Singapore is a tiny state. And so its ruler, at the time when it was separated from British rule, was a young, future-looking, forward-looking, strongman in the name of Lee Kuan Yew. It was he, his party, his style of governance that - especially with a very small population and geographic area size - had made it possible for complete control, to steer the city-state to what it is now. The Philippines, on the other hand, is comprised of 7,641 islands, w/ each politician wanting a large piece of the power "pie," it's corrupt, w/ a constitution that prevents large foreign investments - forget about the low-grade infrastructure & snail-paced internet, even. When started at an equal footing in the '50s/'60s, eventually LKY thought for his people; Marcos, Sr. thought for himself. Having this mindset of & for corruption, w/ every politician suspicious of the other, the situation prevents for a Singapore-like status. (Even now, the Marcos Clan and the Duterte Clan are fighting each other ... all at the expense of the Filipino people.) ... Yes, the Philippine economy will grow; no doubt there. Tourism, overseas remittances, and the BPO industry will contribute greatly. But those are not what make a country's economy seriously grow with a solid foundation. For one, manufacturing is one industry that does. The manufacturing of, say, cars, textiles, metals, ships, as well as at a very wide scale, is needed for serious growth. Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam have achieved such growth. The Philippines hasn't, really. ... So, "Singapore-like status?" ... For starters, a LOT of political sacrifice will be needed for that to even warner a slight consideration.
@fkoff76495 ай бұрын
@@Spy-hp8ki Nothing is ever impossible with PH with very rich natural resources and brilliant people. It's a farc to compare Philippines and Singapore solely on the past GDP performance, failed to mention culture and social consideration, here just a few points 1. Lack the sense of urgency 2. Missing strong egalitarian culture 3. Missing strong desire of self improvement, once I was in a meeting in Cebu, Cebu mayor was very proud to be nominated as the Best #8 Asia city outside China, while Singapore was wondering how to become #1 instead #2 4. Colonial legacy with hundreds elite families with more consideration for family wealth accumulation instead of general population welfare 5. Corruption, missing social concenses or shame for taking the easy path 6. Education 7. Infrastructure 8.
@wishfulanthony5 ай бұрын
Add to that a reactionary culture, like “Bahala Na” (what will be, will be), crab mentality, too little too late, “tsismis” and “Marites” (literally gossipy and wanting to snoop into others’ affairs without realizing their interference can put someone away from his or her goals), and so on. Yes, we may have a more lively culture than Singapore, but eventually, the Philippines needs to understand that dealing with business requires more discipline and rigor than being showy with flashy, glamorous clothes and accessories.

There is some truth to what uou say but that does not mean the country is incapable of reaching its potentials. As FIL AM who live in US for five decades now, I was amazed as to what Philippines has achieved . The country's GDP has risen exponentially although that is not he only measures of the country's success. The current country's leadership has turned the tide around. Though accountability and transparency in governance is apparently not established firmly yet it's going to the right direction . Economy has risen as ev idence by incremental progress in GDP..but various infrastructures t h at could boost the country's economy such Road and bridges connecting islands in Visayas and Mindanao and railroads in Metro Manila as well as proposed international airports i malolos and around the co untry are beacons of pr gress that cannot be denie d and will surely help boost the country's progress and s status around the world. Yes its incomparable with Singapore but Philipp is leaving the status of third world countries. Long before we know Philippines will be one of Asia's pearl.

The Philippines should fix their agriculture and produce most of their goods instead. Dont focus too much on infrastructure like malls, skyscrapers and metro rails. Controling inflation and lowering the cost of living for citizens is important. Overseas Filipino Worker / OFW and BPO/ Outsourcing is not sustainable in the long term because it doesnt create enough jobs for the larger population and low skill jobs can be replaced by technology/ robots. The government should focus on investing in higher quality education in technology, science and mathematics, Research and Development(R&D) in creating high technology companies for global exports. I'm Singaporean and I don't understand why Malaysians keep using food to compare with Singapore, self-proclaiming theirs is better and many Singapore famous cuisines originated from Malaysian while Malaysia has so many so many things to be proud of and Singapore does not have those. That's why we Singaporeans love to visit Malaysia so much : Gentings & Cameron when the heat is unbearable; variety of fresh fruits, inexpensive sea food, beautiful beaches; mountain hiking; fishing, canoeing, scuba diving. If you still want to talk about food, Malaysia has so many pasar malam with endless stalls of street food which has a wide variety and many are creative & a lot we can't in Singapore or have lost preservation. Still talking about food. In Singapore, if a roast stall has Malaysian cooks, the roast char siew is definitely authentic HK style : with so fat and a little chow tar. If the zichar stall has Malaysian cooks, you can be sure the food has wok hei. Malaysia a prosperous country with its modern infrastructures and facilities. Besides Singapore, Malaysia is the safest country in ASEAN where the chances of tourists being robbed, kidnapped, scammed or ripped off are very low. The auntie who sells char kueh teow and the Malay taxi driver can communicate with a tourist in simple English. Malays are taken good care of by the government and the Chinese, as long as they work hard, enjoy a high standard of living compared to those other ASEAN members who do the same job. Hong Kongers are always envious of Singaporeans being able to live in 'big' HDB flats but wait till they see the two-storey terrace house owned a pasar malam wonton street hawker. Singapore hospital should give Malaysian doctors, nurses, pharmacists and medical technicians language allowances because they can speak not only English & Chinese but also Malay and at least two dialects. Thank you, my Malaysian brothers and sisters, and our best neighbours, for your abundant supply of produce and products and contributing to our work force, whether you're a postman or a university lecturer.
