I've just heard you use words that most of us will NEVER hear in our lifetime. Those words are, "this little guy's butt keeps falling out." Followed by the 2nd most unusual sentence we'll probably never hear, "I can put his butt back." Kevin, you have the hands of a surgeon. The mind of a genius. The talent on a guitar of a Van Halen (or perhaps a DiMeola) and the heart of St. Francis Assisi. Your tireless attempts to heal, to repair, to replace, to nurture, to love and to give animals that much needed 2nd, 3rd and maybe even that 4th chance at life..a GOOD life, are matched by no one that I know of. When the average person and Veterinarian has done all they can for their pet, and it's not enough, that's when they come to you. And you ALWAYS know exactly what to do. Sometimes it's not what's best for their human, but it's ALWAYS what's best for that animal. That's what you do and that's who you are. I've never met you in person but I feel I know you because I watch every one of your videos and I think that you are one of the very best people I've ever known about. Thank you for every butt you've put back in. For every egg that you've pulled out. Thank you for helping that sweet little corn snake with a messed up cloaca. Thank you for helping Sylvester and all the other snakes with messed-up little faces. Thank you for every teeny tiny creature whose face is the first thing they will see when they draw their first breath coming out of their egg! @Baiswith
@Baiswith 5 ай бұрын
@@qa377 or maybe coating part of a shed in something (like silicone or resin)? 3D printing has a range of materials with different properties and plastic is already pretty flexible at the thicknesses you'd be printing - considering the wear from movement (and possibly loss with a shed), having an STL that could be printed as often as needed might be easier long-term (and transferrable if she's rehomed). I feel like a separate layer of material (whatever it is) would be a good way to avoid normal movement pulling on internal structures that would typically be independent (not sure I've described that well, but most of the braincells aren't awake yet 😅)

I wish there were more vets with a competency with exotics. For most vet schools, exotics are a section of a bigger class and an elective certification, so a lot of vets just aren’t comfortable working on them. Even my local ‘emergency’ vet can’t do more than basic advice. If one of my babies needs to be seen, we have to drive an hour to get to the nearest, and hour and a half to the nearest that doesn’t involve crossing state lines. Thank you for all that you do and if anyone can find a solution for the poor corn snake, it’s you.

these poor little creature's... it breaks my heart to see so much suffering in animals.... thank you for helping them! in the first snake, if you aren't already an anti-inflammatory would be helpful to both relive pain and get that swelling down, I think Metacam/meloxicam was ok, but I can't remember for sure but worth asking your vet about. I can tell you've done a ton for the second snake too, that scaring...ouch! I'm sure time will help it patience. Ok, the little king snake- this one I've been racing my brain because the thing with skin glue is it has to be used on dry skin, but all that tissue is mucus membrane which will be damaged by being dried off enough for the glue, plus the ureter are right there the urinary & genital papilla & Coprodeum all delicate little structures that you need to be carful of...I'm trying to think of all my wound care knowledge (from work and what I'm going thru myself) and one thing just popped into my head I don't know it it could help here or not but all I can think is she need a graph to A) stop leaking B) stop counited tissue damage, C) maybe give the body a chance to to heal and there is one thing I know that has given burn victims a chance to heal that started with humans and was than tried on animals(I know, right) tilapia skins they did it to help burn paw pad(which do not heal well to begin with) I would talk to you vet about cleaning the debridement of the dead skin at ta tilapia be tacked down to the body wall so she doesn't leak and may give her body time to do something...I know it's an out there thought, but...UC Davis has YT videos about how the were doing there wound care on cats during one of our bad fire seasons a few years ago. ..like I said out there thought, but it's the only way I can think of letting her body heal, or trying to let it heal...it's a hard one. As far as the turtle he may just need a little purse string suture to help build a little strength (once everything is back in place, in mammals we'd leave it in for 2 weeks with a order of reduced size meals but increased frequency ) and you tie the purses string a few mm smaller than the size poops and keep the animal on smaller meals if it's chronic. You do a wonderful job helping all these animals, Kevin! I know it's hard, I know it can be daunting, but I really appreciate how much you care. as fare as Vets it used to be require that they at least learn basics of reptile and avian and it might still be at some schools, but I know a some you don't have to learn any if you don't want at all here in the use. which it terrible, because a vet should have to rely on their vet tech for al their exotic info which was what happened with me at some of my jobs and why I started watching your videos. So, thank you! and Goof luck with these guy's!!!

To be fair, most vets are incapable of properly treating reptiles even if they claim they can. I took mine to a hospital and they almost killed my snake. They claimed to know how, but did not. I took him to a special exotic vet after that and he was fixed up quickly. I will never take any reptile to anyone but a specialist again. There are so many horror stories from people who took to regular vets who claimed to know what they were doing on their website. It isn't personal. It's just way too many of us have been burned, lost animals, or almost lost animals. Reptiles are nothing like mammals.

Kevin there is a revolutionary procedure in human trials about regrowing skin on burn victims. Since only skin cells can reproduce skin cells the skin has to grow from the edges of the burn. With large area burns that makes skin grafts necessary. This procedure takes a device and punches tiny plugs of heathy skin cells that are suspended into a sterile solution and then airbrushed onto the burned area. They have been testing it on firefighters primarily. The result pictures show one that was severely burned over 25% of his body two weeks later had new skin that other than looking pink and fresh, you would have thought he had been healing 6 months or more. Plus it was smooth. The only give away is that it looked fresh and pink instead of tanned. Possibly an adaptation of this could help the corn snake to regrow her scales.

I'm not sure how that'd work with snake scales, they might have to use a section without scales to do it. I feel like a tissue expander situation might work better, but I also don't know that reptile skin grows in response to expanders the same way that mammal's does.

It's like they can put up with the animals suffering right up till the point of death, but suddenly when the suffering is finally about to come to an end, they can't take it anymore? I just don't get it. It's like people are ok with the suffering but not the death. I would rather accept death than prolonged suffering such as that.

Oh man. I love corn snakes, and I work in vet medicine for mammals. I have had a corn for 7 years and Im getting another. That vet damaged that poor animals cloaca. I mean, I could stitch up a reptile's wound, or perform a bone setting or simple surgery but I'd never want to perform a surgery involving the cloaca. Its not that I dont want to or that there isnt money in it (theres always work for exotic vets) its just that I would be afraid to cause a situation like this. I think its better that a vet say "I dont know how to deal with this" and then recommend a good reptile vet than just go in there hoping you remember the brief section in school covering reptile anatomy and its enough to help the situation. Unless you are specializing in reptiles, typical vet schooling is brief. Heck, avians are covered in greater detail. At least when I was in school 20 years ago.

Hi. Is it true that if you put sugar water on a prolapsed cloaka, the prolapse is easier to fix? I also heard that if this problem is recurring, there is the possibility to fix it with stitches inside...so it can'tslip out anymore...? How do you stop animals window surfing and hurting themselves? Like the boa or like water dragons are prone too? Thanks for helping these animals and showing this reality of reptile keeping. Did the gluing on the cornsnake work? Does it has to be repeated after every shed?

I'm shocked at the disastrous surgery performed on that poor beautiful snake. It seems obvious to me through my experience butchering farm grown meat animals, you don't want to slice open the rectum and colon etc...in meat butchering, it's to prevent the contents from contaminating the meat. But in terms of surgical outcomes, I would think it obvious that those structures aren't going to heal as well as an incision which can be closed completely and heal. These animals deserve competent care. They depend on their keepers for help if there is a crisis. Bless you for helping them. ❤

These animals and their owners had nowhere left to turn to, yet you took in these animals to get them healthy. I see that it's hard on you, this would understandably be stressful. What I'm getting at is you're absolutely amazing for doing this, it's obvious how much you care for these animals' wellbeing even though they weren't even your pets. My greatest fear is seeing my loved ones, especially my only snake, suffering. My nearest vet that accepts reptiles is over 3 hours away. That last snake has me concerned, though, it's impossible to know if a vet will be good or not till you have experience with them. I just know with a macaw, only the University of Guelf took him for critical stuff, which is like 10 hours away from me. It's nice knowing about the common issues you see. My male ball python is ~1900g coming out of brumation and very healthy but still, he will eventually get old and one can never be too prepared. You're not only helping save these animals, you're helping thousands of owners learn what to look out for too.

Aww hunni :(❤ poor baby. He's such a silly boy throwing a tantrum like that. Snakes do such weird things sometimes. Cats? Super dangerous right? So why is my deep noodle obsessed with mine? I make sure they are never unsupervised together, I always have my hand on my snake ready to remove him, I have insane reflexes, and not only is my cat declawed, she is a little interested in him, but so mildly that she'll look at him, then roll over and go to sleep while he's right beside her. What's his favorite thing about my cat? Well her butt off course. Then he gets fluffed by her tail (she's insanely fluffy) and starts getting all aborted and huffs at her. Does he leave? NO, cause cat butt duh. They're such strange little things and have no sense of danger when domesticated, don't they. Yes, let me make my own face unrecognizable! Oh, I should be afraid of cats? But, their butts!! (I still have no idea why he loves my cat so much. He's a ball python is that helps. Neither have shown any sign of fear nor displayed any threats. He tries to go on her sometimes and that does about her a little, so that stops their play date, totally against his will of course. To Sans (snake) Cricket (cat) is clearly friend shaped. To Crockery, Sans is the strangest stuffed toy she has ever seen.

In a human, you would do a total skin and perineum graft. You’d need to choose a donor site? Tail? And sew a giant pouch. With a catheter in situ. Sewing with a microscope…. But whether a snake could even take that,,.,

I've always wanted to get a snake & now I'm ready to get one & would like to know as 1st time snake owner which would be the best breed to get. I had an Iguana named Iggy. I actually got Iggy from a flea market let me tell u he was so small wen I got him. Once he started to get bigger my uncle turned half of my room n2 Iggy's cage with a sliding glass door to actually walk n his cage. They most definitely grow to their enclosures. I had to give Iggy to a rescue. Romaine Lettuce is a big part of Iggy's diet as well as other stuff & became very very expensive. Anyways that was wen I was 19 or 20 years old. I'm 51 now so it's time for me to get my Snake. Thank u I'm also a new subscriber which I've learned a lot watching ur Video's. Thank u soooo much for the great & useful information u have been posting. Thxs again

I have no idea if this would even be possible but for the corn snake, would maybe some kind of medical grade mesh or something like they use for keeping hernias in place work as a kind of a branch between the gap. I dont know of it would take or hold just trying to think of anything that could possibly hold that gap together x
