I would say that the italian answer to french champagne (even though champagne is king), is TrentoDOC, Ferrari is a great producer which is the pinnacle of italian bubbles. Their riserva del fondatore is on par quality wise with some of the great champagnes

Good video. I agree with Peter I have yet to find a Franciacorta that is on the same level as Champagne. I have had Cava's, especially pet-nat that were very tasty. Also as Peter said it is difficult to find awful Champagne. My tip is to go to Champagne and visit rather flat wineries like in Bassuet , due to climate change there the Chardonnay doesn't pick up too much sun, therefore they can develop longer on the branch, which makes for a better champagne.
@barmalini3 жыл бұрын
Peter, you were the one who taught me to love Champagne. You were my inspiring voice on the road that I've always turned to when in doubt, thank you, Peter. And after I've spent so many hundreds of euros on Champagne, and so many attempts to understand it, I'm happy that no one comes even close to my beloved wine. This Nicolas Feuillatte is not even an expensive or very fine wine. By the french standards that is, but no one comes close to it. Viva la France! Merci beaucoup, Peter!
@mymic2083 жыл бұрын
I had a Nicolas Feuillatte a few days ago. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. There are other champagnes I'd rather drink, and even other sparkling wines at that price point (I'm a big fan of Ghram beck), but at £19 a bottle it was excellent value for money.
@crazyoncoffee3 жыл бұрын
You’re lucky to live in the UK. By sheer distance, the lower end champagnes are cheaper because it costs less to ship and distribute them when you’re closer. The Nicolas feuillate costs £26.50 ($35) minimum in California. If i could get it for £19 it would taste even better…! The same thing works in reverse; top Napa valley wines that would sell for $100+ in the UK can be found for around $67 in the Bay Area, because where I live I am only 30 mins drive from Napa valley so shipping and distribution costs are way lower.
@irishg3572 жыл бұрын
It's $39.99 here in Pennsylvania, it's still the cheapest 750ml from Champagne you can find on the shelves here. Annnd, it's worth it, Champagne is Champagne, always and forever. Looking forward to trying out their Sakura Rosé next.

I'm very surprised by the Crémant prices, here in France you generally see crémant around 10€, and for that it's a good QPR imho. I was in the Jura this summer and I bought six bottles at 9€ each at a domain, I definitely did not expect that $40 price tag (it was not from Tissot though).
@veroman0073 жыл бұрын
we tax the shit outa those wines
@barmalini3 жыл бұрын
But it's not fair to compare the prices in France and overseas directly. The cheapest but still very good Champagne at Carrefour will cost you around 12 or 13 euros, so your Crémant wasn't particularly cheap from that point of view.
@brettcasale3 жыл бұрын
I came up with a good idea, take a wine cellar quiz or one of those websites that asks you questions about what types of things you like, like if you like coffee or dark chocolate or if you like citrus fruit, and then they send you wine based on how you answer. It's supposed to be for people who want to get into wine and by answering the questions they determine what they think you will like and send it to you. Let's see how accurate they are!

Remember that Prosecco sweetness scale is Brut (most dry) to Demi Sec (most sweet). BUT "Dry" is the second sweetest category from 17-32 g/L ... Brut, Extra Dry, Dry, Demi-Sec. I like your channel very much! Maybe a Trentodoc would be more a style for Peter, for a slightly higher acidity than Franciacorta?

An interesting tasting of sparkling wine, I was surprised that the Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs did so well. Peter, you are not alone in believing that Franciacorta sparkling wines don't deliver on their promises and prices. I have found that Trentodoc Metodo Classico wines are much higher quality and have a much better QPR, particularly Ferrari's. If it's good enough to be used for F1 celebrations, it should fine for the rest of us. I personally drink Cava Reserva, Cremants, and Winzersekt Traditionelle Flaschengarung and MCC if I can find them.
