Your videos are really helpful. May i know if this is possible as a battery support when doing programming to avoid bricking the module?

Very good question. I think it should work since it's a maintainer too, but I've never tried. I haven't even turned on the ignition while this is hooked up! This feels like a good question to the company. What I've used in the past for those extra long diagnoses processes is a jump starter. I just hook it up and leave it plugged in. You'd find it on my video about bleeding the ABS with a scanner. In fact, for that procedure the scanner recommended you hook up to an external power source before starting.

@@DIYAutoworksNG Ive watched now the abs bleeding and you used a jumpstarter as a support but the problem is im just a DIY and dont have access to those tools i have the cheapest power bank type jumpstarter and works great for jumping the car but not sure if safe to use for battery support during programming. Although i think its good to have this device youre using in this video. I see this type of battery charger in amazon and there is a smaller version of this around 8-10 amps which my brother have already its like a ctek type but china version. Would you give recommendation to use it during key programming?

Thanks for watching! So it depends. The charger can't repair a battery with a bad cell. Or if the acid is depleted. It also has a limit of detection if the battery is less than 5volts.

@@DIYAutoworksNG The battery actually still charges and seem to be fine but if the car does not start in the first crank, the battery won't be able to start the vehicle again or if I am running a scan with key in run possible and one or two actuation tests, it won't crank or start the vehicle again. Also, where I went to replace with the current one, I was told it is China and usually don't last more than one year

@OgunjobiDavid Well, yea. A battery can only be as good as the quality of the components it's made out of. The plates would not be as good as they should and so won't take and store a charge as well as good batteries.

Do new batteries still have fluid in them? I know that you used to be able to add fresh distilled water to batteries and it would bring them back to life.

Depends. All wet cell batteries do, including sealed maintenance free batteries. However, GEL and AGM batteries have very limited fluid that it won't pour out if broken. The challenge with the traditional flooded lead acid battery is the need for frequent maintenance as the water evaporates from the acid. The rest of the battery types are much better at handling evaporative loss.

Really this needed an ending where the battery was in regular use for a couple of months. It would be no use if it started your car but then put you in imminent danger of being stranded.

I agree. However, once you have SOH numbers up in the 80's that's a good prognostic indicator.

@@DIYAutoworksNG years of experience has told me not to trust these types of electronic testing unless proven to be reliable. I'm of the understanding this battery will very quickly degrade again and that the repair process has significant diminishing returns. This is why some further information about how the battery would actually perform would be very valuable.
