Damn it those Popcorns🍿 times keep em coming so lean back fasten your 💺 seatbelts and enjoy the show 🎥 once more. Thanks😉 for another historical aviation event video. Watching your videos is like reading a good book 📚 you enjoy every page you turn over. 📖 About night-time missions, they are not really my favorite when it comes to the visual effects I love to see what I am watching without having to guess 🤷♂️ what it could be. Of course, I know in the real world missions are also flown at night but here on KZbin, I prefer daytime missions so I'd rather have an evening or daytime setting than nighttime. Just my thoughts.💭 📖

Thanks for sharing that opinion. In the recent history of aviation, so many missions were flown at night. So it may come to sticking to historical accuracy, making some compromise for the sake of overall effect, or avoid night missions altogether.

Amazing channel, you have got a new subscriber, I must though make some observations regarding terminology and more specifically the term "Gulf War". The first and almost completely forgotten time this term was used was during the Iran-Iraq War of 1980-88, which was almost universally called at that time "Gulf War". The term "Iran-Iraq War" started being used when "Gulf War" became the established term for the events of 1990-91, that is the invasion and eviction of Iraq from Kuwait. Some people do use the term "Gulf War II" from the events of 2003 and onwards, that is the invasion and occupation of Iraq, most commonly known as the Iraq War, while others call the Iran-Iraq War "Gulf War I", the 1991 war "Gulf War II" and the Iraq War "Gulf War III". As a historian by training, I think that the term "Gulf War" should be discarded altogether, as the only time during all those conflicts that have taken place in this region that the Persian Gulf itself was truly a battlefield was during the Iran-Iraq War and more specifically during the so called tanker war, with Iraq attacking tankers carrying Iranian oil and vice versa. The most appropriate term for the events of 1990-91 is the Kuwait War and for the events from 2003 and onwards the Iraq War, although this is still a rather artificial distinction, as there was never any peace between Iraq and the US during the period between 1991 and 2003.
@showtime1122 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your thoughts and comments. The term 'Gulf War' is used quite liberally. I somehow associate it with 1991. and 2003. Iran-Iraq was always exactly that to me. But maybe I'm just subjective because Desert Storm happened when I was old enough to understand these things well.

What if a fighter aircraft dispenses flares before missiles are fired upon it from behind by an enemy aircraft? Will it be easier for the pilot being targeted, then, to evade the enemy's radar by maneuvering his or her aircraft?
@showtime1122 жыл бұрын
It should present an advantage since the missile seeker might have harder time locking up between the real target and the flares.

The pilot didn't understand how Gatling guns work?
@showtime1123 жыл бұрын
Yes, it seems he wasn't trained well on how to use it, according to the flight leader's words. They didn't cherry pick pilots for OIF, they just sent squadrons including rookies who had just finished their flight raining and their first operational flights were combat.
@patrickcloutier68013 жыл бұрын
Concerning the F-18, I was surprised to learn that its top speed was 1,189 mph - considerably less than the F-4 Phantom's 1,430 mph. The F-16 was somewhat slower, at 1,320 mph. What were the requirements faced by Douglas and General Dynamics, in their designs, that allowed for a lower top speed? Was the threat from high speed aircraft reduced? Was it the result of being designed as multi-role aircraft? Or in the case of the F-18, was it expected to stick close to its carrier, rather than tear-ass around in enemy skies? Just curious.
@showtime1123 жыл бұрын
Top speed was getting significantly less important over time. It's very hard to achieve anyway. As far as I know, F/A-18 was designed to be multirole so it could defend itself. But it didn't need to intercept the MiG-25. Latest generation puts more emphasis on supercriuse for example. That's way more useful than Mach 2.

I'm a bit shocked to learn that a US front line combat pilot doesn't know all the weapons of his plane.
@showtime1123 жыл бұрын
I suppose that the pilot's training is really completed after their assignment to an operational squadron. In this instance, they had no time to do it because they were deployed to Persian Gulf. And it seems that gun wasn't given a high priority in training because the rookie pilot had no problems with JDAMs and LGBs.
@waswolltihr15263 жыл бұрын
@@showtime112 It seems like that but it's still strange that the US Navy would consider a pilot combat ready when he doesn't even know how some of his plane's systems work. I would expect that from a faction that's doing a last stand but not from the USN.

How is it that you go through training and never fire the gun? Seems like that would be something the pilot should know how to do.
@showtime1123 жыл бұрын
It's not that hard to believe. Ever since Desert Storm, focus was shifted from low level unguided weapons to medium-to-high level guided weapons. Had the squadron not been deployed to war, the pilot would have probably been trained to use his gun there. Or maybe not. Perhaps it was standard and only the old hands were proficient in the gun use by the time of OIF. If anyone knows more, feel free to contribute in the comments.
