Is it possible for diet changes to help someone recovering from drug or alcohol abuse? A recovering addict teamed with researchers to find out.
Adam Sud has used a plant-based diet as a key component to his maintain sobriety for many years. He wanted to see whether it was possible to replicate the success.
He and lead researcher Tara Kemp, PhD, join “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll to talk about what happened when patients at a rehab facility began eating a plant-based diet as part of their recovery program.
The results appear to offer hope to those struggling with drugs, alcohol, and depression.

Can Adam please write a book!!! Wow! The way he talked about addiction was so much more compassionate than I've ever heard. I support some one in my life who suffers with an addiction and I love this person very very much so I'm always trying to learn more. I'm already plant based and this person knows that's what is probably best for them. What I took away most from this interview was what Adam said about making life worth living. Instead of asking "how can I help them stop using?" I will replace that with "how do I help making their life worth stopping for?". Thank you so so much. I am extremely grateful.

I was addicted to heroin, meth, and benzos for 6 years. I got clean and am still clean 5.5 years later, mostly because of changing my diet and going vegan. It works.

I needed to watch this today because I’m struggling with alcohol but I’m on the verge of really giving alcohol up. I started with going plant based & the next thing is going sober. I absolutely love this channel.

You can do it. One day at time. I didn't struggle but made a decision not to drink in 2022 because it was becoming a habit and I did it. Now I am no longer interested in it. It's freeing and saves you a ton of money. Hang in there.

Claudia, one moment at a time. I understand how difficult it is to let go of drinking. I was in treatment 9 yrs ago. I encourage you to get into community for support. Celebrate Recovery is nation wide and AA meetings are held every hour of the day in my city. I will be praying for you.. the chains of addiction can be broken girl.. keep fighting and don't give up!!

I slowly gave up drinking. Always allow it, but ask me, if I really need it. Instead of drinking, I was lying down and listening to the life stories of people on the channel This Naked Mind by Annie Grace. This inspired me to stop.

Good luck because Alchohol not good for your body and people around you. My Husband 68 only stop 3 weeks ago I can just say all the abuse with his tongue and after 46 years it feels fantastic. Yes we are plantbased for quite a few years. Lucky my mind are very strong what I put in my body so never addicted to anything. Goodluck 😊🤞🥦🍅🍌🌽

A whole food plant exclusive diet has helped me stay clean and sober. Dr. Lim welcomed me into the 10-day program at the McDougall center in August 2018, which was the best rehab I ever went to. I've been clean and sober and cigarette free since then.

Psychedelics killed my drug and alcohol dependencies - one trip two years ago to purge my depression and chronic anxiety from my system was the best decision I ever made. I've done psilocybin mushrooms a few times since, but after my last high dose trip I realized that the medicine has taught me enough for now. I might return to psychedelics later in my life if I ever find a source.

When you've experienced psilocybin, the visions, the feeling that others feel, become really relatable and real. But when you haven't, it could sound very weird and wrong.

I just finished a trip (haven't had one for about 2-3 months) and it was a mess, it wasn't bad or good, it was weird, haven't ever had such a meh trip kept going outside for a walk, like searching for something, but never found it, I just got back from working 2 months abroad and wanted to trip but it felt off, everything felt unorganized and I was on edge most of the time, kinda felt lonely aswell, but oh well

Adam is so inspiring with his story! I love his view of addiction, and the value he places on each person who struggles with this. If only this view was an integral part of the rehabilitation process, it would most likely make more successes for people in general. Love this interview!

There so many eating disorders out there these days, one Dr says eat meat and no vegetables or fruits, another saying eat only fruits and vegetables, it’s no wonder people get depressed and discouraged with food: addiction to sugar is a real issue as well

I would like to point out here a very broad perspective on alcohol and drug problems. The western countries have been consuming plenty of meat for generations and there you have this problem. In eastern countries where meat eating is less prevalent there is little of this problem. So the correlation is there and your studies are correct. I applaud your work and may it reach everyone everywhere.

Wouldn't a plant based nutrition regime also balance the saratonin, dopamine chemicals that will go miles in how anyone feels ? As a heroin user back in the 70's, eating the SAD, so many factors influenced my substance abuse, including never having learned from ANY source, to care for my insides in a manner that would provide optimal longevity. We teach economics and competition yet the basis for all life, optimal nutrition, is overlooked, therefore, schools today are grappling with rising special education costs, behavioral issues, aggression, etc. THey talk about arming teachers when arming schools with better understanding of foods role in EVERYTHING is missed.
