***Question*** My husband had an MI with STEMI, I changed our diet to plant based and his cholesterol came down so well that he was told he could go off of his cholesterol medication. However, we had been watching his white cell count increase over the years, both of us knew what this meant, but it was still hard to hear, he has Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Is there a specific diet or food that he should be eating more of, or less of for this diagnosis? There seems to be very little information on the best foods to combat CLL. His doctor seems to think that the diet does very little, he even told my husband that alcohol is fine to drink. Can you possibly shed any light on this? Thank you in advance.

People need to take personal responsibility for their life and health. The general over all health of people has declined the last few decades. Even children today have signs of artery disease. Fast foods and sugary drinks have long term consequences. There is an obesity epidemic today where over 60% of the population is overweight or obese. What is common today and "NORMAL" is not healthy. The average person today is not healthy and is taking medications. Heart attacks were once only common in people over 65. Today people in their 40 are having heart attacks. Add more plants and vegetables to your diet and less junk and overly processed foods. Being thin is a sign of good health. Being over weight or obese is a sign of bad health. Poor diet, lack of exercise and obesity are contributing to high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

Looking forward to information on reducing hidden fat in my vegan diet. Are there Any vegan ice creams out there that doesn't come with coconut oil? I did appreciate the mention of Plant Based Whole Foods. Too often I grind millet, rice or oats to a fine flour. ...and your discussion on beans! Wonderful! They are slowly rising proportionately on my plate. Very good reminders in the show. Don't stop talking to us vegans!

I make frozen fruit smoothies. I add tofu or raw oatmeal to make it creamy. Try smoothies & then freezing to make more like ice cream. No coconut oil used.

Another thing that helps is not to think of certain foods as only fit for certain meals. Why not eat steamed veg and mashed potato for breakfast. Why should it matter.

Many people complain about how tedious it is to count and document the exact calorie count of everything consumed each day. Sure. But that does not mean that knowing how many calories a food item contains before you eat it is not valuable information. Indeed, it's crucial. Knowing that a boiled potato is let's say 150 calories, but that the equivalent cooked as French Fries is 500 calories is crucial information before putting either in your mouth. Obviously knowing that difference is valuable and for that reason I never eat French Fries. No! Never! I never eat French Fries and I don't miss them. French Fries are for "Fat Frenchies", not for me. But my point is: paying attention to the calorie content of such standard foods is NOT tedious at all. For vegetables it's easy enough to look it up once or twice online and after a while you'll remember the approximate calorie count. For example, I eat a lot of avocados. One or two a day. People scream at me, "You should never eat avocados. They are full of fat". Oh? Are they? An average size avocado has 250 calories. Only half that of a small serving of French Fries. What's the big deal? After all, my body does need a certain amount of fat, and 250 calories is not an excessive amount. I'm not just speculating here. Like I said, I eat at least one avocado a day (I love them) so I tend to remember their calorie count when I decide to eat one. Also, my BMI is 22. So, they're not making me fat. Yes it's good to tell people that they do not need to go through the tedium of recording exact calorie counts of everything that they eat. But it is wrong to tell people to ignore calories completely. And it is wrong to suggest that educating yourself about the calorie count of certain standard vegetables is tedious. It's no more tedious than remembering who won the last Super Bowl or who won the most recent Presidential election. I believe we should all be encouraged to pay VERY CLOSE attention to the calorie content of everything that we consume. But there is little need to record it. Simply pay attention before eating it. What's so hard about that?
