definitely! we are always accountable whatever we do. and yessss that is true, they had no choice back then. part of God's original purpose (Genesis 1 & 2) for humans was to eat fruit and the vegetation and take care of the animals. That is still his purpose, but our circumstances now dont always favor that, so to each his own as far as what to eat. it is more important that whatever we do, we do it in a healthful way and take care of ourselves. The point of the quote is to not be mean to people (the "sinner" - imperfect person) for their choice (the "sin" - desire), even if you dont agree with it. i dont smoke, i think it's bad for a person, those around them and the environment. but i dont hate the smoker, the person. i just dont agree with their choice and that's okay. Jesus taught that everything we do hangs on love for God and love for neighbor. love motivates us to show compassion and kindness to people, without condoning things they do that we may not agree with. eating meat is not a serious sin because if it was, Jesus wouldn't have fed thousands of people with bread and fish, clearly performing a miracle with God's blessing. In another light, Daniel and the 3 Hebrew boys proved to be healthier on a plant based diet than the other boys who were on a meat based diet, and not one of them judged those boys for eating meat. and that's the whole idea. everything is a choice. but in all things...love is the key.

I have brought my own food to weddings a few times and it wasn't a big deal at all. One was close to home so I made a hearty kale salad with brown rice, tofu and veggies and brought it in a lunch box with an ice pack. Stashed it under my table until it was time to eat and no one noticed or cared. Another time I went to a wedding in rural Saskatchewan and I knew there wouldnt be anything for me to eat so I got a take out meal from a place with vegan options and stashed it in the fridge at the venue. I was in a wedding in June and the bride and groom were so sweet and made sure I had a vegan meal at the rehearsal dinner and wedding. Always make sure to thank your friends and family when they think of you like that!

Do you have any tips for a new vegetarian? Meat doesn't interest me anymore and it's kinda gross in my opinion. I'm trying to not eat fast food fries and pasta all the time. Especially things like breakfast?
@molly44956 жыл бұрын
@victoria fifer I have oatmeal almost every day for breakfast. It's so easy, cheap and healthy. I do a 1/2 cup rolled oats, 1/2 of a frozen ripe banana, 2 tbsp frozen blueberries, and 1 tbsp ground flax seed. I put that in a bowl and add enough water to cover the oats. I put a small dish over the bowl so it doesn't bubble over. Cook in the microwave for a minute and a half, give it a stir and then cook for another 30 seconds. You can do whatever fruit you want. I also like to top it with pecans.

So I was a vegetarian for a few years when I was younger then got away from it and then was reintroduced veganism a few years back. It was my really close cousin Heather and her husband Jorma that brought it to my attention. They really influenced me in such a casual gentle way that was perfect. I' remember Jorma ordering Oatmeal at a restaurant and asking the waiter if they could cook it with water instead of milk and it just really caught my attention of how meticulous he was being. Then he casually mentioned a book he had read called How Not To Die and then we went on to talk about other things. To this day I have never read How Not To Die, but just hearing the name of that book and relating it to Veganism really resonated with me and I became vegan soon after that. Sometimes that quiet disposition combined with bold statements is the most powerful combo. Also, I think the hardest thing with being with all off my non vegan friends here in California is not having the CHEESE connection. Wine and cheese is everything to social life in California. I always bring hummus and veggies and olives or cut up green apples and almond butter. Or one of them will pick up a vegan cheese for me and get it out and serve it to me like they feel sorry for me and that really bugs me. It's all a process!

If we can be friends with people of other religions, we should be able to be friends with non vegans. BTW I am not saying that veganism is a religion! It just means that people can have different beliefs about important things and still be friends. Some religions have dietary restrictions. It isn't a problem. I can relate to non vegans by remembering that I used to eat like that, and might still be doing so if certain things didn't happen that led me to eating a plant based diet.

Guys, I must tell you I talked and talked to the manager of a meat factory I know. We always discuss veganism. Last week he told me that he was driving in the evening and then he saw something and pulled the brakes. He saw it was a hedgehog and it managed to walk away. He had a nice expression on his face. It had made him happy too to be animal friendly. I found that to be awesome! Some other good things are that my two kids also cook vegan dishes now. For example they love making vegan sushi after I showed them. Yesterday I was invited by a friend and she surprised me with a vegan carrot-orange cake which was really good. Another good thing is that I expressed my sadness when a friend invited me to a non vegan restaurant to celebrate her birthday. I could only eat a salad and some potatoes there. Then she found a cute vegan restaurant which has specialized in sweet and savoury crêpes. It is bomb and we always go there to celebrate now! Another friend from Iran was inspired by my typical vegan talks and ... now she is also cooking vegan dishes and feeling good. She even lost some weight and felt amazing. Even people who don't seem to be convinced, end up changing something. I work at a sports institute and teachers must meet once a year with its managers. There are always speeches on a particular topic and a buffet. I'm planning to make a presentation about veganism and sports and organise a vegan buffet next fall. Wish me luck! ;)

My best friend went vegan January of 2017 and I went pescatarian in August of this year and am now vegetarian with plans to go vegan in the very near future. I wouldn't like too many comments about what I was eating, but a little encouragement is nice! Since I've minimized/eliminated eating meat, some of my other friends and family members will bring it to my attention when they eat something vegetarian (as though they want my praise), so I definitely think it's a good thing to try if you're close to a person or know that they will respond well to that.

I do think choosing to be vegan can put a barrier between you and a non vegan. But like Nisha said, if you can mutually see each other and at least TRY to understand the other person's perspective, then the barrier can break down. It may never be completely broken down because food IS such a huge cultural way of spending time with others but as long as you surround yourself with those who are willing to open their eyes a little bit to see more of YOU, then remaining friends with a non vegan can be a really great thing. It's always weird for others at first. Especially family members who obviously have known you for your entire life and they see that you've all of a sudden made a 180 with your food/life choices. They will probably not be super open to seeing your side right away. They might think it's a phase. But standing firm in your beliefs while also being willing to relate to those around you will help them understand YOU a little bit more. Loved this episode!

Being vegan can be isolating ... you're often the odd one out in social situations where food is involved (as it so often is). When I do talk about it, I mostly seem to talk from a health perspective, as that was my path to veganism. And in that context, being vegan (WFPB style) is actually "normal", physiologically ... but NOT culturally. :) That's difficult.

Well, the only time it's painful for me is when I am convinced whole food plant based is important when trying to heal and prevent certain diseases. I had a friend whose husband had colon cancer and she totally dismissed the causative link between animal flesh and colon cancer. Even though a Doctor recommended plant based as well. She believed that the beef they loved was healthy because it was "grass fed". He is dead now and it makes me so sad. At this point, I only engage with non vegans when they ask me for info on veganism. Most of my family is vegan or plant based and they form my circle of friends.

When I first went vegan and I spent the night over at my best friend we were talking about having a bf and I said that it might be harder for me to find one because I want him to be vegan too, and she said that it's not fair that they have to accept my choice but I don't accept other peoples' choices who don't eat meat. And I didn't say anything, I think we just moved on to an other topic. But since then I always regret that I didn't say something like: I didn't become a vegan to accept meat consumption, but to try to stop it. Do you think it's better that I didn't say anything or I should've told her something?

Being friends with non vegans is a good thing because you never know how our choices may affect them. It gives us the opportunity to show people that veganism is possible in this meat eating world.

You guys may bring this up anyway but I'm writing it right at the beginning. Isn't it always interesting that somebody always makes a comment about your being vegan, but we never bring up the fact that they eat meat. I mean there could be one meat eater in a room with vegan enjoying themselves, but no one would ever mentioned the fact that they're not vegan. Be the only vegan in the room and people can't stop talking about it.

And I understand the point of not making non vegans uncomfortable, but why should we be concerned with their comfort and their feelings when they have absolutely no consideration for the animals they pay to be tortured and murdered, by their choices multiple times every day? I think it's outrageous.

It's one thing to have different *interests* than others; it's a whole other thing to try to bridge a *moral* divide when others are regularly engaging in behavior you find morally reprehensible. Two completely different things. One is no big deal; the other is such a big deal as to be a potential deal breaker.

Totally late to the video but since veganism isn't a diet, its an ethical stance, I cannot be friends with people who think its kay to be aware of the exploitation and still be enabling and supporting it. And food is what connects people and cultures so as a follower of veganism, you would obviously choose a cruelty-free option. With this, what happens is I see the cruelty and exploitation that a person who I call my friend is actively supporting and enjoying. This friend is otherwise everything you'd want your friend to be. So the ethical stance is what now differentiates my lifestyle vs my friends. And because there is such a stark differentiator,i.e. cruelty supporter and cruelty non-supporter, I cannot be friends with non-vegan people. Friendly, maybe, but friends? No.

Vegans are morally superior which makes them respect less non vegans and which also brings insecurities and resentment in non vegans , so the friendship is no longer as strong on both ends , that’s that

Yeah I agree we shouldn't shame people when they really don't know, BUT when they have been told and educated on the truth about these industries that exploit and torture animals, and they still continue to make the same choices, they should be shamed then. No one who knows what goes on in these industries and continues to support them should be coddled. 🤷♀️ Sorry not sorry but I will be judgmental when I know someone is consciously, willingly contributing to animal cruelty.
