Get some linseed oil and bees wax. 6? oil to 1 part wax, melted and paint it on your boots. It will waterproof them AND soften them so they won't be squishing your feet.

Would it be an idea to maybe fit some stand pipe connections along the pipe for emergencies in case of forrest fires.
