Back in the day, here in my part of Scotland, we were able to buy small wooden frames with honeycomb honey in them. Ate the whole thing, wax AND honey spread on toast or crumpets delicious 😋

If you like the apples on the broken tree. You can air layer several limbs and have your own orchard. You can use zip loc baggies with potting soil inside them to air layer. Fill the baggie then cut a slice in the middle on one side. You tube has many videos.

Great video, bees are so fascinating, isn't nature so clever :) re: Kiwi gender, you can only tell if they are male or female when they flower, male flowers have lots of stamens in the middle covered in pollen and the female ones have a bunch of white stamens in the middle. I have friends that have tepee's in Colorado. And they would dig down about 10 inches to a foot all along the inside area of it. I think it was for some sort of insulation. And they had rugs down too. One of my friends actually lived in the mountains in it. He put in a small wood burning stove. I think that having tepees will be so cool!

If you want to grow kiwi, you will have to transplant them from the forest to a location that has FULL SUN. A very large trellis will be required as kiwi grows as a vine - not a tree or shrub. The poles you are peeling for the TP's are pretty close to perfect for the horizontal supporting trellis platform. And once again, the Newbys bamboo will work just fine for the crossing members. Plant a kiwi or three at each vertical pole,

You either need to move the fruit trees or mark and clear and area around each of the fruit trees, so they have sunlight and room to produce. Oh and put protection around them so the deer or other animals dont eat the bark and kill the tree.

Hi, I used to rent a cherry tree in Kent (farmer used to look after the tree and I would visit it at blossom time and pick all the cherries on ‘my’ tree were mine. Fantastic. However at picking time we would get an email with the following info: PLEASE READ THIS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR CHERRIES As promised, this is a newsletter purely about the very serious invasive fruit pest in this country call Spotted Wing Drosophila (SWD). This fruit fly has been spreading across Europe for a number of years and has finally reached the UK in sufficient numbers to cause widespread devastation to a number of soft fruits, with cherries unfortunately being their preferred crop. At picking time, when you come to pick your cherries, you will be given a separate bag to put any cherries that you would otherwise have discarded onto the ground (bird pecked, mould, not perfect). You must not throw any cherries at all onto the ground anywhere on the farm and instead place any to be discarded into this bag and give back to the supervisors when you leave, for us to dispose of (I would however simply suggest that you to take these cherries home to cook with, bottle, freeze etc ) Any discarded cherries will provide a hotspot for fruit fly infestation and breeding within the orchard and prevent us from stopping the pest attacking the unpicked crop still on the trees. It will then also increase the local population making the problem worse, year on year. This element is all we ask of you at picking and it will be you doing your bit in helping the fruit industry as a whole, control this pest.

Kiwi or Chinese Gooseberry as they use to be known need a male and female plant to fruit and then they are prolific. I can’t remember which but 1 is a climber and the other a shrub
