As far as a fnaf theory goes, this one is a little controversial. I hope you hear out my perspective on this, and why I think Steel Wool is trying to softly reboot the Five Nights at Freddy's timeline. Again, I don't think this is a bad thing. But I feel as though it IS a thing regardless.

I've been saying this for ages! Even if you leave FNAF VR aside as somehow non-canon, in Security Breach, there's at least a few references to things that shouldn't be there unless some form of the games exist in universe. There's an arcade cabinet that features Springtrap, and also stuff for Nightmares and the nightmarionne. Security Breach is in universe, therefore those games exist in universe. Edit: also, I do not trust any corporation to tell me the full truth, especially about their own history. I'm more inclined to say the games are largely accurate and Fazbear is covering things up.

@@blobby_blobby That is an interesting question. For context: Special Delivery is not a videogame inside of the FNaF world. It’s a delivery service (Fazbear Funtime Service) that delivers animatronics you rent to your home for entertainment. We get hints through the emails sent to us about what’s going on with Fazbear Ent. As for Golden Freddy themselves, I don’t remember if there was an in-game explanation for them being in SD.

Honestly, I'm on board with the idea that most of the games before Help Wanted have some form of unreliable narration. The more you think about it, the more it makes sense from that angle. Obviously, it's worth noting that the stories being told still happened in universe, but they're obscured by random details that throw us off the scent. FNAF 4 is definitely the best example of this, considering that most of the nightmare animatronics don't get any acknowledgement from Fazbear Entertainment; with Fredbear and Nightmarrione being the exception. Though there's also some acknowledgement of Plushtrap in the Fazbear Frights books, whether that's relevant or not, I still wanted to mention it at the very least. Also, yes, we need more Ennard. Ennard is best spaghetti boi! 🍝

In the TFTPP story "Help Wanted", the Indie Developer is named Steve Snodgrass. He created the Indie Games in universe. It is said that he made the FNAF 1, 2 and 3 that we play in Help Wanted, that he was killed before he could complete FNAF 4, likely by Fazbear Entertainment, and that the FNAF 4 was split into the Night Terror minigames. All the games WE play actually are canon.

An element of Scott's story telling that I enjoy is his tendency to be way more literal then people think. I believe the 8-bit stuff is in 8-bit format to communicate that there's something about the arcade cabinets which reside in locations where the hauntings happened. Not because of any deep philosophical symbolism, but because Scott literally just used 8-bit as the art style for those segments. I still think this also ties back to FNAF World; in that you are shown the "front end" of the game and a "back end". The 8-bit sprite-style from the cut scenes is hiding in FNAF world and are not serving as the intended graphics; we watch the game "play as scripted" and then we see NPCs inside the game go "mask-off" to tell us information that was not programed in as part of the game. Old man consequences is in an even older style of game-graphics to communicate visually, blatantly, that he exist in another layer of separation even from the 8-bit style entities. You are even shown how to travel against the logic/map layout of the game by going between layers of reality/ layers of the game code. I think it's all very clearly laid out and we should be assessing things in other entries to the series by the "rules" or general "logic" that FNAF world shows us. Afton dying in a room with three arcade machines was not a random design choice on Scott's part; it was to hammer in that idea that the supernatural things happening don't just affect the animatronics, but also other computerized objects.

I personally think that the games themselves, despite being in universe games, are accurate. The real villain of the series was never Afton, It was the Fazbear Corporation. Scott has always made it clear that corporate negligence allowed the killings to happen. Who's to say they wouldn't slander someone because of their monumental team of defense attorneys? Or maybe this is just scott being funny and making himself even MORE canon in his own games.

If I remember correctly, Special Delivery in universe is an app for the Fazbear Funtime Service. Which is an in universe animatronic delivery service corrupted by Glitchtrap, with the Springtraps being Artificial copies of William Afton's sprintrap form. ... That or Vanny killed a ton of people to turn into Springtraps.

FNaF World While it seems like a joke, I don't think it is. As mentioned in the video a version exists in the lore, but the one we play is different. (Maybe even a third one exists where the hanging mangle is a thing.) So I'd theorize that World is one of the Reliable ones, because as silly as it seems, it stands as unchallenged in canonicity.

The way I see it, the Steel Wool games, much like the books, are set in a separate universe from the Scott Cawthon games and are meant to be a soft reboot of the series.

To me I always took it that they were different universes where similar events had happened. In the Afton saga it went as was presented and ended with FNaF 6, while the new Vanny saga was largely the same but with FNaF 6 not ending Afton and the Blob and Fazbears still trying to revive the brand

The one thing that bugged me about the idea that the games are all fabricated lies is that it's based on the assumption that the games we play are the same as the games in-universe because if not then nothing changes. And even if they are the games were said to be loosely based on actual events meaning that there is some truth to the depiction of the fazbear's history.

i actually like this perspective. ive never really liked help wanted, and those lines always felt weird to me, but intoducing the idea of unreliability to a fandom that uses 2 pixels to ‘prove’ a revolutionary theory is important. not everything is intentional. people make mistakes. storytellers say things that were jokes and are now serious and vice versa. stories contradict themselves. i hate to say this, but i genuinely think a lot of fans went too deep looking for answers scott didnt have, and because of that, things were sloppily handled out of his own desperation to provide us with a solution to the puzzle he never meant to create.

The Tales From the Pizzaplex book (which were confirmed by Scott to be directly canon to games) answers this question. It's confirmed that the indie developer completed the original 3 games but FNaF 4 was never finished. Also, the tape girl is factually no Vanessa becouse it's confirmed in Curse of Dreadbear DLC that we play as vanessa in FNaF VR. Scott debunked the theory that the real-life FNaF 1-UCN games aren't actual games in the FNaF universe. 10:23 It's confirmed that remnant regenerates you so even if SL was before FNaF 2 (which is not) Michael wouldn't be a rotting corpse anymore.

I agree with this theory mainly because it goes with my own personal theory that the outfit we see glitchtrap in help wanted is the actual costume he committed the murders in and he just so happened to have died in the spring trap suit. This makes more sense because in the fnaf 3 tapes we find out that these suits can snap if you as so much get it a little wet or move too quickly, so it would be illogical to think that he would’ve committed the murders in the suit. Also the spring trap suit is big, noisy and clunky, he wouldn’t have been able to quietly sneak away kids, kill them and stuff them into suits with it on. Not to mention that it would be hard to clean if blood came on it.

Scott debunked this theory 3 years ago. It's also confirmed in Tales from the pizzaplex that only the first 3 games were completed in-universe while FNaF 4 was never finished. I also don't think Scott's writting skills are bad enough to do this.

5:03 - The baby plush is a scrap baby because you can see that the silver hand that is showing has a claw hand print on it. Not to mention is it was normal baby the hair would just be solid red but it is orange with blue and red wires like scrap babies hair in FNAF 6.

You honestly make such a fantastic point here, the main themes of the story and mini-game lore are very much the same, but because of poor planning, and story always changing each game, we can't take absolutely every single tiny detail as fact, so it'd make sense to have a plot point that there's a series of indie games made by a developer that was hired to cover up Fazbear Entertainment's past. All the those previous games are still remotely canon to an extent, but not every single detail should be taken at face value, while Pizzeria Simulator is actually 100% canon and follows up with Help Wanted and Security Breach to tell a compelling narrative and have something of a soft reboot. I genuinely didn't think of it like this before, but it honestly helps ease my brain when trying to actually piece the story for past games together. (Although, I do still believe UCN is canonically a purgatory.)

Would be interesting story wise if, within the first 5 games, the 8bits and secret hidden screens (Springtrap unmasking, other random start up glitches), or even FNAF world glitching out and telling you about happiest day, were the Rogue indie rev working to unveil the truth while still getting his fat paycheck. I definitely feel as though the individual games we play prior to HW are the accurate experiences of the protagonist of each game (usually Michael Afton). In help wanted the stories are recreated as games in order to try and discredit the experiences of the protagonists - hence the “lawsuit pending” line. Fazbear entertainment is trying to cover its own arse, and make everything that happened in those games appear fanciful so that whatever comes out in that pending lawsuit they can attempt to dismiss as being lies from a madman. All of that is to say it’s further evidence that the real villains here are corporate greed and negligence and we are all trapped in the failing springlocks of capitalism.

I was always dissapointed no one from fnaf 6 was in help wanted, a vent repair with scraptrap and molten freddy, or scraptrap and lefty or the salvage or office sections would've been really cool, or maybe a parts and service with lefty where the more of lefty you remove the more of the Puppet you see

Maybe the way that games released were also canon in some way? It could show some background and maybe have chipper and sons canon. Maybe fazbear entertainment saw that Scott could *make* a game that had scary looking ‘animatronics’ and hired him. And it could also prove why pizzarea sim doesn’t happen, or gets little attention. The game could’ve not been a part of their contract they had to make games, which it why the game was hidden under a pizzeria tycoon and came out of nowhere (no release date or anything happened). Maybe all of the night sections could be real? Or the hidden mini games have truth in them?

@@RyeToast I find it especially interesting that an obscure character like Nightmarionne is front and center on the cover art. Because Scott Cawthon specifically said Help Wanted's challenge for him was making noncanon characters, in which he stated Nightmarionne as an example, canonized. This isn't failing to mention that in S.B., Shadow Bonnie appears in the Pizza Plex. Implying the minigames are canon or the origins of shadow bonnie is not just in minigames. But on the other end, Golden Freddy is heavily guarded from appearing in the new games. Which tells me Golden Freddy is canon.

I think all games can be trusted, but only to an extent. Starting to think that the more sci-fi hard to believe ideas are more of an anecdotal explanation of what happened. Illusion discs may be an indication of manipulation/emotional abuse imposed by William Afton instead of actual illusion discs.

Another banger video. Tbh personally, help wanted’s soft “retcon” of the lore mmm i just didnt like it. I really liked how beautifully things were wrapped up in Pizza Sim and UCN. I wish help wanted wouldve started a new story preferably without afton. Maybe like an afton copycat or wannabe? Or just something new entirely. I liked glitchtraps design, it was spooky and cool but idk I’m tired of afton. Also i agree, we need more ennard 👍🏽

One of the stories from the book HAPPS, Help Wanted, has actually confirmed that Fazbear Entertainment hired Steve (the indie game developer) to make 4 games and that he only managed to finish 3 of them, which explains why the Help Wanted versions of FNaF 1 - 3 are identical to their game versions, while FNaF 4 was represented by Night Terrors.

My head canon was that Mike before fnaf 6, was still in contact with one of his friends from the fnaf 4 minigames, let's call him Scott (for no reason in particular) who decided to make videogames about beavers. Mike told Scott all the crazy things in his life including becoming a living corps. Scott still a bit sad that everyone says his game is creepy, decided to make games out of Mike's story. Sadly Mike never got back to him about the ending, so made up a satisfying ending where it all burns. Which didn't work, hence pee-paw Willy.

fantastic theory, however another important detail to make it clear that the games created by the Indie developer and Fazbaer entertainment try to hide as much lore as possible is the fact that in Help Wanted there is no Golden Freddy, which is one of the most important animatrinics now, I could say it is in Fnaf AR, but in my opinion the animatronics present in that game must be taken on a peg, that is, I doubt that they sent home some people of Springtrap, how could they do?

Yeah that's the big question. If special delivery is an in-universe game, is it an AR game like it is an our world, or are they literally sending them to people's houses? Because the therapist being killed by animatronics suggests they're actually sending them, but that's not plausible right?

@@RyeToast I think they are really sending animatronics, but not the ones we see in the game, or at least not all of them, I think surely the four of the main cast are there, but I doubt that animatronics like Golden-Freddy or Springtrap are really being sent to people's homes

Hmm. Maybe its something similar to some of the analog horror series on youtube, like local58 or mandela catalogue- the ghosts added the eight bit minigames to the games themselves. At least for me, it would explain some of the inconsistencies- all the ghosts having different recollections of what happened, either because they were focused on different things at the time, or because their trauma has affected their ability to remember things clearly.

I recently watched a video by The Cursed Judge called "What Scott Cawthon Did to Five Nights at Freddy's" where he lays out a timeline of how the games transitioned from simple survival horror to the hot mess that is the franchise lore and Security Breach, and during this video it finally clicked for me. But it's still super convoluted. Ok, so, how I understand it is there are actually two continuities within the games (I'm not touching the books right now, that's a whole other mess). The first timeline is what is spelled out for us in the first 7 FNAF games (FNAF1 thru UCN), and whether or not these events took place as described to us, or at all, is up to you as an audience member (I like to think of them as true events in-universe). The original story DOES end with Henry's speech at the end of Pizzeria Simulator, or UCN if you consider that Afton's personal hell. The second timeline is where it gets tricky: At first, the whole idea of "a rogue game developer" in Help Wanted seemed like more of Scott's cheeky humor that we've come to recognize as Fazcorp's darkly hilarious corporate indifference that we start to see emerge in Sister Location. But what Scott's actually doing with this concept is basically rebooting the story in a universe where the FNAF games we've all played actually exist in-universe. In other words, he's rebooting the story in OUR universe, and the people who've played these slanderous games by a rogue developer (canonically Scott) are US, the FNAF fandom. It's meta, I know, but stay with me. So Help Wanted reboots the story so that (if you choose to see it this way) the events of FNAF lore up to UCN did take place and the games Scott made were relatively accurate in regards to these events. Fazcorp puts out "Help Wanted" to mock and dismiss Scott and the allegations of the games. Special Delivery continues this timeline and then in Security Breach, the pizzaplex we get is what might exist in our universe today if the Chuck E. Cheese craze of the 90s had a more lasting hold on our cultural curiosity, or if everything was run by Disney (uh oh, um....). Ehem, err, anyhow! You can also choose to view Scott's games as an unfaithful retelling of the horrific events, who's to say he is a reliable narrator?, or even as completely made up. It's up to you. As for what's canon in the second timeline, that mostly ties back to what appears in Help Wanted or not, but Helpy throws a wrench into it a bit. FNAF1-4 are definitely canon in the second universe, but Sister Location and Simulator are less clear. Pizza Simulator largely doesn't make an appearance in Help Wanted--except for Helpy! And Helpy pops up again in Security Breach, and Music Man shows up TWICE in Security Breach and he's a direct reference to Pizzeria Simulator. I guess ultimately, in this second universe FNAF1-6 have to be canon in-universe games if for no other treason than the pizzaplex in Security Breach is built ON TOP of the pizzeria from FNAF6. Anyhow. It is convoluted, to be sure, but check out the Cursed Judge's video and see if it helps clear things up for you like it did for me. The lore of this franchise is just nutterbutters, and that's not even including the survival guide or novels.

Interesting train of thought here, but if fnafs 1-4 are definitely all in-universe "games", but burntrap and scraptrap are canonical characters that exist in the "real world", then that creates some interesting ideas. (TLDR at the bottom) The biggest realization is that Fazbear Entertainment (FE for short) WANTED it to be known that William Afton, co-founder of the entire franchise, did in fact kill (at least) 5 children. It is made abundantly clear in the first 3 games that Afton was a child murderer. This means that the public irl was also most likely aware that Afton was a murderer, since if the public wasn't aware of this, then FE would have no reason to create the concept in the first place (as claiming that their founder was a murderer the whole time isn't exactly something you'd want to just come out and admit after hiding it for 30+ years, that's just bad business and goes against the entire point of hiring the dev to cover things up in the first place). This would suggest, similarly to the posters in FNAF1, that William Afton IRL was arrested, tried in public court, declared guilty on all 5 accounts of murder, and most certainly sentenced to life in prison (you can get life in prison for just ONE dead kid, imagine the punishment for FIVE). The games on the other hand make it seem like Afton was released from custody and declared innocent when no evidence was found linking him to the murders. But if the court had actually declared Afton innocent irl, then as I said previously, FE would have made it abundantly clear in the games that William WASN'T the murderer, but was rather framed for it. So if Afton gets sentenced to life in prison irl, then that means he had to have broken out of prison (or escaped into hiding before being transferred to prison) at some point in order to eventually wind up in the springtrap suit later down the timeline, which we know actually happened thanks to FFPS and Security Breach. The games would decide to re-contextualize this "Mass child murderer on the loose due to poor security and mismanagement from the police" to instead sound more innocent on the company's half as "Oh he was never actually caught in the first place, we definitely didn't accidentally let him escape and definitely didn't accidentally loose track of where he was." It's also likely then that, assuming Fazbear Frights was a real place, and that it did actually burn down irl (why would FE make an entire game about a location and an event that never happened?), that FE themselves are directly responsible for starting the fire. They caught wind that Springtrap was spotted at a new horror themed attraction, and so they immediately set out to try and destroy the place with Springtrap inside. It obviously failed, as Springtrap managed to get out of the building before the fire spread, so FE tried again to destroy Springtrap, this time creating a special bunker with no exits with FFPS. Of course, FE must have concluded that the fire was successful this time in destroying Springtrap, as they then buried the ruined building, built a new fancy mall on top of it to hide it from curious eyes, and then, thinking that their past was behind them and all destroyed, hired a game dev to say "Hey, all those bad rumors about the old Freddy's are done and over with, and the killer is dead now. Freddy's is now the cool hip place to be once again, come on down to the Pizzaplex!" TLDR: If the games are "just games" in the real timeline, then that means William Afton irl was most likely found guilty and sentenced to life in prison, rather than being declared innocent due to a lack of evidence like the games suggest. It would be terrible PR for Fazbear Entertainment to come out of nowhere and claim that their co-founder was a mass murderer unless the public was already aware that Afton was the de facto kiddie killer. Therefore, Afton was caught and declared guilty of the murders, but managed to escape custody and go into hiding until getting springlocked. Fazbear Entertainment would re-write this history in the games as Afton never actually being found out, which makes the company look better than letting the known murderer escape.

A couple of other details I think should be payed attention to. Nightmarrione in Help Wanted actually uses the same voicelines that he does in ucn. And so so so so many arcade machines in the pizzaplex reference everything from scrap baby to the five fazcoins rockstar fred demands to the pickles in pizzasim. Basically the lore nuke unfortunately did sand blast pretty much all of the games. But there is one massive hint towards what is real in help wanted. And thats that at least according to tape girl, silver paracel didn’t do any pathing for the characters. Instead just plugging in the old animatronics. Essentially saying that if they behave that way in help wanted they behaved that way in universe (which gets especially weird for the nightmares and other entities like lolbit). I do think the lore nuke in theory is a fine idea its just unfortunate that with security breach’s vacuous nature we are still left with a void of lore where the previous games lasted. Although over analyzing each of the animatronics behavior in help wanted to piece together what actually happened was a very enjoyable rabbit hole to go down and recommend giving that a chance

However one small problem, the Baby dolls from Help Wanted do in fact appear as merch in the Mega Pizzaplex, in fact a lot of things from previous games do, wether or not that makes those games real or not is up in the air. I just thought I’d mention that before things went off the rails in the future.

The thing that super annoys me with both the "indie game developer" addition, and the way that ruin shookout (basically debunking the entirety of the game we play in security breach, as well as almost all of the endings, including the burntrap ending which I believe was very clearly meant to be canon at the end of security breach but was retconned between by those stupid comic pages) essentially irreversibly muddies the waters in terms of theorizing. How will we ever be able to prove or disprove theories if any contradictory fact or piece of evidence can be thrown out with a "indie game developer" or "maybe that never happened, Gregory just made up the endings!", is SO FRUSTRATING! Like what basis do we even have to work off of at this point if some unreliable rando made the first few games loosely based off of the actual events??? Theres no way to determine stability at all.
