Not that I'm a specialist but cap's gloves have plates in them, so they are basically a cestus. You could always use fists as cap's does punch a lot. And riposte with fist will give you bigger window than just stagger.

Honestly, congratulations for doing this entire run without using any shield ashes of war like Shield Bash, Shield Crash, Carian Retaliation or even Vow of the Indomitable. Even if they would've made some fights a lot easier, we know you like the challenge anyway. P.S. I really don't blame anyone for using summons during Godskin Duo fights.

I def thought about using Shield Crash and a couple others, but awhile ago when I made the poll asking what would be hardest: shields, flails, whips. A lot of people said some shields do a lot of damage, and especially if you use their AoW. So I knew going in I wouldn't use them ;) lol Me either, Godskin duo can suck it lol

For challenge runs, I think any summoning that fits the theme of the run, whether spirit ash or NPC summon, is cool. For example, using summons that only use a bow in a bow only run still fits the theme of the run. I'm looking for cool ways to get around obstacles with challenge runs, not "lul this person isn't having fun anymore", so I actually wish more challenge runners would do stuff like that.

Hey thanks! I'm really glad you like it and feel honored that you think that way of me. I do plan on it! Actually if everything goes according to plan the next video will be a DS1 themed run. The reason I haven't done DS2 or 3 yet, full transparency, I'm not as familiar with those games as DS1 and ER, so I am a bit nervous haha BUT would like to do them. Bloodborne, although probably my favorite in the series, I didn't have a way to get footage of (until recently), same with Demon Souls (though still don't have a way for that one). Lastly Sekiro, I LOVE that game but...thereisn't a lot of challenges out side of "no sword", "No prosthetics" and mods lol Just for the record I also wouldn't mind tackling souls like games in general, just haven't gotten to that point yet, loving ER too much haha

You weren’t DOING a shield run, brother. It was a Captain America Cosplay Run. Whatever challenge you add or detract from there is all on you. By that logic, or at least mine, anything within Cap’s character is on the table. -He’s a boxer and martial artist? Caestus (not spiked though, because he’s a good boy). -He’s a devout Christian? Incantations. Maybe towards healing, like Bestial Vitality or Great Heal/Erdtree’s Blessing. -He’s the leader of the Avengers? Summons are okay (though you COULD add the stipulation that it has to be an “Avengers Level Threat”). -Spirit Ashes are okay so long as they are ALSO a cosplay of one of the Avengers (technically that means Black Knife Tiche could be your Black Widow…but good luck getting her). -Frost is okay. We know he became a Capsicle. -he technically also uses a gun in the movies, so you CAN add glintstone pebble AoW for flavor and damage Not gonna discount your efforts, and you did an amazing job. Shield runs like these are borderline acts of pathological self harm, and making ANY headway against the likes of the goddamn FIRE GIANT or otherwise is commendable.

I usually start with a basic challenge run idea in mind, then try to think of a good theme to fit over that, which is why I so strictly stuck to (one) shield only. Did a Hulk build and I also used Black Knife Tiche as my Black Widow lol. I'd love a close Iron Man analog but I can't think of which summon works best for that. But yeah ultimately I'd say this was more a challenge run before being like, an actual themed build that has attempted optimization to be as strong as possible (while fitting theme). Shield ashes of war would have also made this not so much of a nightmare. Oh and while Cap would never use spiked knuckles, I'd say putting bleed on the shield shouldn't be completely off the table as an option. I can't imagine the vibranium edge of the shield being swiped across *wouldn't* slice through the heels of a giant. Wouldn't be my first instinct for a full fledged Cap build but it's something you could try to maximize damage with.

A tip for future runs, offensive stats aren't worth it for non-casters in general. Weapons just don't scale with stats high enough to matter more than vigor or endurance. Almost all of the increases in damage output come from weapon upgrades, level ups for offensive stats do next to nothing.

I think for a proper Cap build, you have to go beyond just "a round shield and blonde hair." Cap throws his shield but lacking any weapon skills in that department I think Discus of Light is a fair stand in and isn't strong enough to be a crutch, Immutable Shield should be acceptable as well. Golden Vow is totally Cap's "Avengers Assemble!" Cap's super soldier body can recover from most injuries really fast, so Beastial Vitality . In this situation I would also lean on keeping multiple shields with different weapon arts. Vow of the Indomitable is pretty much "I can do this all day". Shield charge, shield bash, kick, Barricade shield, any of the parries or deflect ashes. You'll feel more like Cap and probably have an easier time with each fight.

I really wanted a throw shield Ash of War, I wish i would have thought about the Discus, that is pretty genius! I tend to just have a challenge run in mind, then mold the theme run around it, so in this case it was Shields only (specifically a round shield). So i thought about putting other ashes of war on it but in the end just wanted extra challenge so I didn't. That being said, everything you said would work perfectly for a true cap cosplay run!

So like..15 damage isn't a lot and one mistake might have meant death. Also like half the bosses can't be parried anyway lol

"Guard counters quickly fall out of relevance." Now THERE'S an idea for a challenge run. "Can you beat Elden Ring with only guard counters?" Rules are anything goes as long as you only deal damage with guard counters. Could do some research to figure out what shields might be best, if it's worth using the scholar's shield sorcery or barricade shield AoW, and which weapons do the most damage or have fast guard counters (iirc I read that hammers surprisingly have the fastest guard counter attack)

Nice work I like these types of challenge runs. If you can why not try beating elden ring as Prince arthas menethil (from WOW) and do his whole story in game. Lyndell capital= burning of stratholme and land of the Giants=him getting frostmorne and losing his paladin abilities. At the end he becomes the litch king. Sounds complicated but also cool. It does improve guard boost, but you'd have to get it near maxed to notice.

Dude OG Captain America's shield was a kite shield the most iconic Cover of him punching Hitler he has a kite shield! You could of had 100% phy Also don't handicap yourself take a cestus with kick ash and a shield with shield rush or strike and if you really want to "Throw a Shield" take ring of light; use the claw talasmin it scales with strength with allow the throw and return it a range options not your Bread&B. You can then all but parry can still repost with a punch combo have guard and guard counter options... imagine yourself doing a jumping shield attack into kick against a blocking knight and then punch repost.... that's Captain America!

Yeah, a kite shield would have made a few encounters much easier haha, I wish there was a proper shield throw ash of war, at the time I didn't even think about ring of light but oh well

Honestly you could have had 2 loadouts, for the mimic tear. One set up for Bucky Barnes and one that you use for Cap So here me out. Dlc weapon: thrown shield. They did a javelin in ds3, id be hyped to see something like that
