Prepare for trouble, but don't make it double since today we're going to try and defeat all of Kanto while using just an Ekans, like Jessie from Team Rocket. As you'll see perhaps it wasn't the Ekans that was the problem...

Blaine is programmed to assume you probably just fucked his shit up with Blizzard. You probably DID get Articuno from Seafoam Islands, and you Definitely have a Water Pokemon with Surf. Blaine is the only Gym Leader in the whole game that you literally cannot encounter without having a move that wipes his whole team. The next closest thing is Misty's Starmie in Yellow. Blaine is smart. For the same reason it's a good idea for him to Super Potion, he's never going to be a challenge.

Regarding Blastoise knowing only Bubble at Rival Fieval: one thing I learned while doing a randomizer run of Blue is that gym leader Pokémon can actually know the TM which the gym leader gives out, if the Pokémon they are using would've known it in the normal version of the game. For instance when I fought Brock, his Lickitung, which replaced Onix, knew Psy Beam, which the randomizer had assigned to TM 34 Bide, and due to unchanged compatibility Lickitung had thus access to Psy Beam. Gotta love Gen 1's code
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting 4 жыл бұрын
Blastoise still knows Bubble because the Rival isn't programmed to have custom movesets. Pokemon in battles typically work like this, you can either have the natural moves it knows from level up, or, you have custom moves. So Brock is programmed to have custom moves. That's why his Onix knows Bide. In the case of the Rival fight, Blastoise is level 40. At level 40 the last four moves it would learn through level up are: Level 8: Bubble Level 15: Water Gun Level 24: Bite Level 31: Withdraw Thus, that's its moveset, because that's naturally what Blastoise would know without it being programmed to know any other moves.

Mimicking the Wing Attack at the end for Exeggutor was pointless; since it only has 35 power in Gen 1, when Super Effective it'll have 70 power, so it's still weaker than Body Slam without the chance to paralyze, while giving the Pidgeot a free turn, which if it started off with Sky Attack would have essentially been GG for you. That misclick with Body Slam probably saved you; not only you got the paralysis, but judging by the damage it dealt in a crit, two crit Wing Attacks still wouldn't have 2HKO'd and Exeggutor would have gotten at least two chances to put you to sleep. In fact it doesn't seem like Mimic really helped much at all outside of against Rival 6, and I think it would have been better if you just kept Glare + Wrap. 85% accuracy is still decent and you don't need to hit that many Wraps in a row before Earthquake/Body Slam kills, so I don't think it would have been that obscenely luck reliant for beating the Elite 4; for reference I did a solo Onix run and I was able to beat the Elite 4 entering at level 62 and finishing at 66 (given with perfect DVs and Stat EXP grinding) with no saving inbetween while relying a lot on Bind, against more pokemon that could OHKO Onix if he missed while Bind had 10 less accuracy and Onix has substantially lower base Attack than Ekans, so an Ekans in the high 60s to 70s should have more leeway with their misses and not have to hit as many Wraps. It certainly would have relied on a lot less luck at the end than the Exeggutor missing with Hypnosis or you proccing paralysis with Body Slam, and probably give you less luck reliance against the Alakazam too when Glare + Wrap would give it less opportunity to get more than one chance to attack off.

@@magikarpking886 Fire Spin's 70% accuracy is going to really suck though compared to Wrap's 85%, and with Agility the Speed difference is pretty meaningless other than for extra crits. By the time you reach the Elite 4 Dratini's Speed is going to be high enough that one Agility should have it outspeed everything; the fastest thing you fight is Lance's Aerodactyl with 178 Speed, so once Dratini's Speed reaches 80 (which doubled + the Badge Boost will have it hit 180) you can outspeed everything after one Agility, which you should easily reach by the Elite 4 unless you use a Dratini with a shitty Speed DV (why would you) and didn't get it much Speed EXP.

Loving this series! You mentioned you read your comments, so an idea for future runs: how much difference does fast XP vs slow XP make? The comparison set in my mind would be Tentacool and Clefairy. Tenta has beastly stats but super slow growth, while Clefairy will likely get rocked by Brock, but has a deep move pool and will wind up a higher level much faster. Whatever order you choose, thank you! You got a sub from me for this series, and it’s well deserved.
@scragar
@scragar 4 жыл бұрын
The EXP requirements for everything other than medium slow are pretty easy to explain: Medium fast is the default, it's simply the level cubed. Fast requires 4/5ths of medium fast(so it grows 20% faster) Slow requires 5/4s of medium fast(almost grows 25% slower) Medium Slow is called that because that's where it fits at high levels, but it actually takes less EXP than medium fast to reach level 64, and given he rarely needs levels beyond this to complete the challenges I'd consider medium slow to be better than medium fast and for the early game it's better than fast too(until around level 30). The difference can be a big deal since slow requires about 50% more exp than slow, that's enough to make about a 10 level difference by the time fast gets to level 60 slow has just surpassed 51.

@tfpdudu5383
@tfpdudu5383 4 жыл бұрын
It really depends on a variety of factors. Clefairy is actually a great example, since it takes several levels to squeak past Brock (Around 17 or so is bare minimum). Its Experience group means that you spend a decent amount of time less grinding in Viridian Forest than the Medium Fast or Slow groups, although the Medium Slow group is ironically faster at early levels, only being slower than Fast in terms of total experience starting at level 29. If Clefairy were in the Slow group, getting to level 17 would require a total of 6,151 Exp instead of 3,930 Exp, which is a pretty huge jump. Beyond Brock, though, it depends on what bottlenecks a pokemon is most affected by, whether it be something like Rival Fivel (or even 2 for that matter), the Elite Four, or something else. A slower leveling curve just means more grinding is necessary, and the earlier in the game those bottlenecks are reached, the less wiggle room there is for grinding. As an aside, even if it wasn't in the Fast group, Clefairy would probably be high tier on this list between its movepool and deceptively good base stats. As it stands it will most likely be a top 5 pokemon on this tier list.

@@magikarpking886 It ultimately depends on how consistent he wants to be with his Elite 4 runs. On one hand, even if Clefairy gets puts to sleep once, it's bulky enough where it can take a decent chunk of damage, so it's like not being outsped is an automatic game over. On the other hand, if he wants to remove Hypnosis as a factor entirely, he will not only have to outspeed Gengar, but have a high enough special to reliably one-shot it with Psychic, which will also require a decent bit of extra levels thanks to Gengar's high special.

NickTheGreatAndPowerful Lol that’s quite the assumption. I did grow up with the GBC and Red so I am familiar with the colors. The color is really similar but the GBC color pallet is not so pronouncedly red or black. Also the GBC has green, while this is just varying shades of white black and red. Hence looking like someone’s pokemon creepypasta rom.

@@NickTheGreatAndPowerful VisualBoyAdvance lets you change the colour palette in the GameBoy settings. It's just a bit of a pain to configure the hues because the background colours don't come out the way they are shown in the menu at all (probably a realistic restriction), but there are definitely some pretty nice colour schemes to create. Sorry if you weren't talking about emulators and I misunderstood. I am not fully certain how to interpret your comment, but I figured the info might help.

I can't wait for you to get the 200K subs you deserve. Pretty much every video you put out is super interesting on premise alone, and even if it isn't, your style of commentary is so good that you make it interesting. Idk how hard you script these videos but it doesn't sound scripted at all, you're enough of a master at this kind of commentary that it sounds like you're just watching the footage back and talking about whatever comes to mind. You're super thorough and the depth of your knowledge/experience really comes through with how naturally you commentate. I hope you continue to do stuff that you yourself find interesting and not just what you think we want, because that passion comes through and makes the vids great.

(6:59) Glare actually only has 75% accuracy in Gen. 1. It didn't become 100% until Gen. 6. (13:51) Praise Helix! (22:41) Actually... (23:57) ...Yeah, Rock Slide doesn't flinch in Gen. 1. I wonder if it was intended to flinch, but doesn't due to an oversight? Because, the person who gives you the TM for Rock Slide says "it can spook the target sometimes", which makes me think it was indeed supposed to have the flinch chance even in Gen. 1. (28:36) Actually, since Wing Attack only has 35 power, it's still weaker than the 85-power Body Slam on Exeggutor, so using Body Slam there was the better move anyway. (And wow, that insane crit+paralyze luck!)
