I had a thought, for your Pokemon tierings: Could you go back into your recordings and count the number of defeats/resets and add them to your decisions? I ask because, from what we saw as viewers, Jigglypuff seemed really, REALLY bad. And yet it got ranked relatively high because the level was low and the in-game time wasn’t very high. Is that still true if you factor in how many times you had to re-try? Just an idea- still loving the series!

it was literally like, in the bottom third tho, i completely agree with the current tier list. being someone who does Pokemon challenges in there own free time, whether a pokemon hits a massive brick wall at any point is probably the most important thing to consider due to those taking the most time/patience/will to live given that jiggly puff had minor stuggles throughout and no major brick walls its tier is completely reasonable.

@flamingphoenix40253 жыл бұрын
that run is just literally physically impossible. You will loose that to wild pokemon after you drained all your Teleport TP, oh forget wild pokemon, first Rival Battle is the end already. Video would be 10 Seconds long. Starts:"So guys today we're gonna see if you can beat Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow with just an Abra without taking Damage." 5 Seconds later:"So the difficult part is not getting hit by your rival's Pokemon, so we're gonna try and make him miss with the 1/256 Chance every turn while using Teleport to make sure he can't hit us and then after 20 Turns we will attempt to beat him down with Struggle while he continues to miss. And here is the Problem, you're gonna need to level up atleast 95 Levels before battling your rival and having atleast seismic toss or mega punch to be able to deal damage. After that, you're gonna have an easy time for the first parts of the game thanks to Seismic Toss one-hitting everything. Here comes another problem though, quick attack. To avoid taking damage from a quick attack we need to make the opponent randomly choose one of the 3 other Moves they still have so that we outspeed and KO before they can attack us."

Great vid, just a quick note on a mechanic you might not be aware of: When you fought Giovanni's Persian, you mentioned how you were initially using Body Slam in an attempt to crit or para. It should be noted that in gen 1 you cannot paralyze normal types with Body Slam.
@Laurenrdraws4 жыл бұрын
I never knew that!
@LiroRaeriyo4 жыл бұрын
now WHY is that a thing?
@Sheu_ssbm4 жыл бұрын
I imagine it was to be more consistant with secondary effects against the same type that caused certain statuses. So the same way that a fire type cannot be burned by flamethrower, they made it so in gen 1, normal types cannot be paralyzed by body slam (since both the move and the opposing pokemon share the same type).
@bongosmcdongos41903 жыл бұрын
@Liro Raériyo ok so this is old but if you still don't know: gen 1 status moves check to see if a move is the same type as the pokemon it's trying to afflict. If they're the same you can't do the affliction. This makes a lot of sense with say Ember and fire types. Burning a fire type is stupid. So is poisoning a poison type. Electric types should logically be immune to thunder wave/paralysis. It has the unfortunate side effect of interacting with body slam. Since body slam is normal It can not paralyze a normal type. Body slam CAN however paralyze frigging electric types.

Real talk, Ty so much for these videos I never knew I wanted Jrose. You're honest in your gameplay making good and bad choices and realizations throughout, don't pretend things are different than they actually are for the video alone, and don't advertise yourself under any circumstance (besides the on video add density, no big deal IMO) even though these runs are basically mind numbing insane even with sped up gameplay. I keep coming back for your content, I respect your way of doing things. Always keeping things fresh and interesting, and even doing bonus runs in between your massive journey of a series for both our and your own variety to keep things becoming stale. Even though it's the same games over and over and over again. You complete, edit and upload these runs at an incredible pace and I assume you've gotten quite efficient by this point at the whole process. I assumed these ''CAN YOU BEAT THE GAME THIS WAY OHMYGOD SO HARD!!!'' videos would quickly become a hype train crashing my interest in them against a brick wall. But your way of playing through them, keeping things genuine, optimized and deciding what is and isn't ''in the spirit'' totally fits up my alley and what I expect from a Challenge. 1 consistent set of in game rules and tools (speed up, badge boost etc) also is just amazing to me. You have absolutely perfected this niché.

Later gens would change a lot of stuff that made it a lot harder to win at lower levels and as solo pokemon. Even ignoring the badge boost glitch and all the other ways Gen 1 can be exploited and broken in half, Gen 1 had the normal badge boosts and Stat EXP system to give your pokemon a massive statistical advantage, as well as atrocious AI and AI trainers having awful movesets (the movesets were somewhat fixed in Yellow though). Gen 2 fixed the exploits, and gave the trainers some sort of actual AI and better movesets, but it retained Stat EXP and the badge boosts, as well as added a new mechanic where each badge boosted your moves of the same type by 12.5% (e.g. once you beat Faulkner your Flying moves are permanently 12.5% stronger). Gen 3 replaced the Stat EXP system with the modern EV system so your pokemon can't have much better stats in everything anymore, as well as removed the badge type-boosting mechanic and slightly nerfed the badge boosts to a 10% stat gain, plus added abilities to complicate things farther. Then Gen 4 removed the badge boosts altogether and really improved the movesets opposing trainers had (e.g. trainers can have actual coverage). So overall don't feel too bad about seeing people beat the Gen 1 games at far lower levels and greater restrictions than you were able to beat later Gen games.

You make the absolute best pokemon challenge videos, I watch a lot of Pokemon challenge channels, but most people just level up past their problems, sometimes without even trying a new strategy, or trying the battles at all, they just assume it's not possible, and for me that makes it pretty boring. I like how you make it almost scientific trying to eliminate the variables too. I don't mean to offend your fellow runners, I like pretty much all of them, but you make my favorite videos, besides I have a penchant for gen 1.

Major respect for the decision on mimic moves. Not that I would think less of you if you had mimicked special moves, but the fact that you upheld the spirit of the challenge when you didn't have to is super awesome

The mad lad does it again, gentlemen. PS: You can't paralyze normal-types with body slam in Gen 1, Jrose. One of gen 1's mechanics that don't get mentioned too often is that a pokemon can't receive a status if the pokemon has the same type of the move, like poison sting can't poison pokemon that are poison-type, but twineedle can because it is a normal-type move. And body slam is a normal move, so if you use it on a normal-type pokemon, it won't get paralyzed. PS2: Really appreciate how you are adding some of Gen 5's soundtrack! Really dig that game's music.

I'm playing through Yellow at the moment inspired by your challenges, and I managed to take down Giovanni's Nidoqueen and Nidoking (at the Viridian gym) with a Level 22 Bulbasaur :D it felt great to exploit the AI like that! (His Rhydon was a challenge though, and currently I'm stuck unable to beat the Champion - grinding time...)! You've also taught me to finally actually understand and appreciate status moves, I have been a n00b damage only player since I first played 20 years ago and now I see the error of my ways. Thanks for all the great videos, cannot believe you put yourself through the Abra-Brock grind a second time (let alone plan to do an Abra series)!
@kevintreese45444 жыл бұрын
The reason Alakazam went for recover was due to gen 1s idea of “good AI” It pretty much detects Alakazams attacking moves as psychic, which is not very effective against Abra. Recover, however, is normal type, so the “good AI” would consider that to be the best option, despite the fact that recover is a status move Oh who am I kidding you probably already know this

I'm just here because you're doing one of these on Yellow. I like the variety. The funny thing is, I've never played any Gen 1 games--or really any mainline Pokemon title. I just, for some reason, enjoy hearing about the strategy you need to do these challenges. It's more like when I watch a speedrun.

@@priestesslucy My plan is to play the Switch remake. I know it's a lot easier due to the catch mechanic replacing random battles, but I'm more into playing games more casually these days, as a way to unwind. Plus I really like the graphics in the same way I like the ones for the Link's Awakening remake.
